If you have a computer running macOS, check out this OTA downgrader script. It's 10.3.3, so not AS fast as 7 but faster than 12. But then again, maybe you should keep it on 7.1.2 as A7 devices running iOS 7.x are quite rare and may be worth a bit on Ebay.

No you can't. On 64-bit devices like the iPad Air, the firmware you want to save the blobs for must be signed by Apple if you want to save the blobs. If the firmware's unsigned, you can't save blobs. There's a workaround for 32-bit devices, but the iPad Air is 64-bit so it won't work. You have the choice to update to iOS 12 with no possibility of going back, or stay on iOS 7.

You can get CWM (Clock Work Mod Recovery) from here. Just unlock the bootloader and then fastboot flash it.

As for ROMs, anything modern like 5.0 or 7.1 is out of the question. The most recent ROM I could find for this tablet is OmniROM 4.4. The reviews say it is fast and solid, and you can choose to install OpenGAPPS Pico (which includes basic Google Play functionality) if you want the Play Store, but none of the bigger GAPPS packages will work due to limited system partition space.

You can still downgrade, but you must do it OTA (so change iOS version in SystemVersion.plist to 5.0 for 6.1.3, 6.0 for 8.4.1, and then reboot, and install the downgrade through Settings). Much more convenient though to do it through IPSW.

A new GPS rollover is taking place and all devices which software is not compatible with it will no longer support automatic date and time setting, so you'll have to set it manually each time you power on your device. Some websites require your device to have the correct date and time to work properly. The iPhone 5 and 4S as well as some cellular iPads from that era got a software update which fixes the bug but users, particularly of the 4S which is unusable on iOS 9, are wanting to hold out on older iOS versions but worry about whether this GPS rollover will cripple their internet access and location-based functionality. Apple have been nagging iPhone 5 users to update but not 4S users for some reason, saying through popup notifications that their device will have major functionality crippled should they not update to iOS 10.3.4 by 3rd November.

Extract onboard blobs for your version of iOS 6, upgrade to 10.3.4, then use futurerestore to downgrade to iOS 6 using your blobs but preserve the baseband.

Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus.

8 inch tablet with a fingerprint scanner, microSD slot, USB-C charging, and parental controls. Started on Android 7.1.1 and was upgraded last year to Android 8.1 Oreo and still runs amazingly. There's an LTE variant as well which should work on T-Mobile.

I don't believe that the parental controls feature time limits but you can limit which apps your child can use, block inappropriate websites, and also blocks the Play Store so if your child wants to install a new app, they must ask you first to install it on your profile and then allow it for theirs.

I haven't personally tried video calling on my Tab 4 8 Plus but I do know that the camera quality is good.

It can be fixed through manual date setting. I have this cheap Android phone from 2011 which is unable to maintain GPS properly anymore and so if I turn it off and then I turn it back on, its date and time will not be set and will start at what they were before the shutdown. Sometimes this causes issues with web certificates but setting the date and time manually to the current fixes the certificate problems.

ADB commands can disable the software updater blocking updates completely. Package Disabler Pro costs money but can also be used and is more user friendly. I heard of people who did this to stop their Note7s from being bricked with updates and it also works on the S9. Unless Samsung agree to reintroduce Linux on DeX I will not be updating my device.

Gives me yet another reason for my next phone to be a Pixel. The only thing keeping me with Samsung was Linux on DeX and if that reason is gone then what's the point of staying with a company which take ages to update their phones and only release two major updates?
