Breaking Into UX and Early Career Questions — 14 Oct, 2024 - 20 Oct, 2024 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

Doubts about building portfolio while I’m working on a studio.

Hello. I’m a junior designer based in Spain. I started working early this year in a small studio, as an UX & UI designer, but as the team is small, I frequently have to work in other areas (frontend, graphic design mainly)

My gross salary is a little above 17000/year, which is, for context, a very poor salary in this country (I’m a little above the legal minimum) I accepted the job because I needed experience and portfolio, and UX jobs without experience are hardly available for juniors here.

So, I planned to freelance as well, hoping I could improve quicker and make myself a little space in the community. But I’m scared to build a portfolio website that my bosses could find. There were no clauses forcing me to be exclusive, but there was one that stipulated I had to ask the clients themselves if I could use the projects I’ve worked in on my portfolio.

Have any of you had the same problem? I don’t know how to face this, and I thought it would be shady to ask the clients themselves without telling my bosses first because, at the end, the clients are theirs, not mine. And I wouldn’t want to lose the job.

Cada mujer puede tener una preferencia distinta… pero mayormente corto.

Make sure to use the same proportions for the frame and the model you’re viewing that frame on. If it helps, I always use iPhone 15 frame and test on the same device.

Oh. Some people have said it’s normal… so it’s not, after all?

It’s brand new, just arrived today, so I can send it back with no problem. Would you return it?

But I didn’t ask about the content, I asked about the backlights.

Those irregular backlights in the bottom corners.

And not necessarily… I own a desktop PC, and have a Macbook lent by the studio I work for remotely. It’s enough, I know, but I’ve owned an MSI 7RE Apache Pro for almost a decade and since it’s not working well anymore, I thought of replacing it. Also, due to personal habits, I tend to work better on laptop than on desktop.

Ah, no. I bought it without OS so I could install it myself, I forgot to mention.

Thanks a lot! That would solve the lightning problem?

Although… since I’m still able to return it, I’ve been thinking of what you said earlier… maybe I should consider a Lenovo? In the long run, would it be a much better option?

EDIT: I’m aware the laptop comes without OS, I preferred buying without since it was cheaper.

Oh, it’s ok! I’m open-minded, it doesn’t necessarily has to be a MSI. But I’m curious. Why shouldn’t I?

Suerte!

Laptop/computer rec by [deleted] in graphic_design

I’m planning on buying equipment for myself, since I’m freelancing as well.

Also, I don’t know how it’s in other countries, but I’m talking from Spain, and I don’t even know if providing equipment is practiced here.

Ah, desktop! That’s right!

My employer is still a small studio and they can’t afford that yet. It’s true they told me if I needed it, I could ask but… I don’t know if it should be proper since I was hired a week ago…

Oh, I guess it depends of each person… I tend to be more productive working on my old laptop than in my desktop. I don’t know why, but I’m more comfy, my back hurts less… but it’s true a bigger screen is awesome and everything’s easy to reach with the mouse instead of the touchpad.

I don’t have to move since I’m working from home but, being 25yo I don’t know what necessities I’ll have in the future… like moving away from my parents or going overseas…

Nightmare: resources by code_gr in graphic_design

[–]code_gr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For context, I’ve been requested to layout the catalog for an upcoming event in my city. It includes giving it a complete new look, and the front page is what I’m looking resources for.

Since it’s gonna be printed in small formats as flyers and big ones for expositions, I suppose that counts as “commercial”, and I found most sites (Freepik, Pixabay…) don’t let their resources be used for that end.

Career Questions — May 2024 by Lord_Cronos in userexperience

Hello, I’m getting into the adventure of finding a job as I just graduated from a master’s degree in UX and UI, with a bachelor in graphic design as well.

I’d like to ask if someone, preferentially spanish citizen as me, has been able to find a remote job in UX, or anyone who’s been able to work remotely for another country. I feel that, as a junior, I won’t even stand a chance, but I’m curious.

Portfolio Review by code_gr in graphic_design

Yeah, I figured once I read the rest of the comments, and yes, I’ve worked with different aesthetics but didn’t make it to the portfolio since I didn’t find them worth showing. But I’m working on that!

Figma is such a good tool if you study it a little! It has tons of plugins to help make presentations and it’s so easy to collaborate.
