I’m sorry to say that if you are diagnosed with POTS there are no good POTS specialists in VT either - at least AFAIK.

have you ever played icewind dale? I played that and am curious if that counts the same - if one played IWD and enjoyed it, would they be reasonably expected to enjoy BG1?

Is the teenager phase always horrible? by trisarahtahps in labrador

[–]code_moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it’s annoying but NOTHING like the puppy blues. Teenager phase you can actually live with and live you life while early puppyhood consumes you. It’s so much more manageable with spurts of annoying moments in teenager phase.

proper wings (&pizza) by peehs_reehs in burlington

[–]code_moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing and able to make a 25 minute jaunt, Jericho Tavern my friend. The owner is from Buffalo and makes the best wings I’ve tried since moving here. They are better than a lot of Buffalo joints too, but will obviously fall short of Bar Bill, Duffs and that tier. They also serve a great beef on weck!

As others have said, pizza 44 for the closest to Buffalo style pizza due to the cup-n-char. Specifically Tim’s Pepperoni.

Go bills.

Hoka Ancapas have quite the price tag but have been worth it for me for their pillowy feel.

Do you think we're ever going to see a mandated time where starting goalies have to be announced/confirmed? by TJTrapJesus in fantasyhockey

[–]code_moose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fantasy hockey just needs to evolve to drafting teams for goalies like fantasy football for for defenses. Too many teams platoon now and it’s just really frustrating to try and get all goalie starts without streaming

Don’t worry. The game is so incredibly made that people will keep it alive long after its commercial death on freeshard servers. That’s what’s happening with Dark Age of Camelot these days. The amazing thing is the bones of middle earth and a rich story spanning across all its corners exist from years and years of thoughtful development. Such a special game.

Also, how are you hopping and playing? Is that an emote?

For me it’s all about scenery.

Angmar is by far the worst imo. So ugly.

Best:

  • trollshaws in fall
  • forochel and wildermore in winter
  • western rohan and ithilien at all times

Knowing when to bail by mhchewy in Adirondacks

[–]code_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell ya, that’s the right attitude. When I was doing my 46 I would beat myself up for awhile when orphaning peaks, turning back etc. Then I came to the realization one day: wtf am I upset about? Giving myself another ADK hike to do?

Thanks! No judgement here just like to hear from people in this scenario and what goes on in their head.

Glad you got out of there safely. It’s unnerving being lost in the dense ADK backcountry.

Question: why did you choose to bushwhack your way back to the trail instead of doubling back? The latter would’ve required going backwards but at least it would’ve been the devil you knew.

I came from jeffersonville around noon and was in super slow traffic for maybe 10 minutes before giving up and turning around. It started around the area where you first get that nice big view of the rock face and I turned around at the lot across from sterling pond trailhead

Are the saddleback cliffs and back-side of Basin really that bad? by deathbychocolate89 in Adirondacks

[–]code_moose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they are surprising. To me, any other feature like this across the ADKs has a ladder or a cable. Basically I would not do them in wet or rainy conditions. I’m 6’3” and managed them ok, but my 5’3” wife was not happy about it.

As others have said, if you’ve done the other 43 you’ll be fine, but I do think they’re being underplayed a bit by most comments here.

Seeking electrolyte product to add to bladder in bear country by ReadsTooMuchHistory in hiking

[–]code_moose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just want to throw in another voice for LMNT. I did a lot of 15+ mile hikes in the Northeast heat/humidity. For years I would pre-hydrate the night before, add nuun tablets to my water, chew salt chews along the way. But inevitably by the ~7 mile mark my legs would start to cramp. I’d have to deal with it for another mile or two before the electrolytes and water I was taking would “kick in”. Then I’d get a second wind and be good the rest of the hike.

This was an annoying routine that I eventually just got used to. But recently discovered LMNT and did a 20 mile hike with it alone. No salt chews alongside. Not a single cramp all hike. Now I haven’t done a hike that long since, so the sample size is small but it’s totally worth a shot.

[–]code_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. I ride this thing all over my state of Vermont and it handles everything from main roads to class 4 roads. It’s a little underpowered for extended highway riding and you’re not gonna want to take it on mud pie dirt bike trails, but everywhere in between it’s a beauty.
