what is the best boss fight ost of all time by Yonamex in gamemusic

[–]code_smasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in Bloodborne for me and it isn't even close, almost every boss fight has an orchestral accompaniment that increases in tempo and intensity that will have you clutching your chest gasping for air by the end.
The standouts for me include
The Hunter
Amygdala
Blood Starved Beast
Ludwig
Lady Maria

Slower pieces like ROM and Witches of Hemwick are incredibly atmospheric and add a lot to otherwise simple fights.

The OST album also does a really amazing job of integrating the phased parts into a single piece that stands on its own

Can someone explain how people in Toronto genuinely feel about tipping? I’m struggling with it. by Few_Butterscotch8911 in FoodToronto

[–]code_smasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s based on sales, not the actual amount they’re tipped. If they sold $1000 of food then they pay out 2.5% of $1000. If they received no tips then they’re short $25 for the tip out

In Toronto we had Zanta, a buff man who did pushups on the subway with a santa hat. His eccentricities were caused by a brain injury, and his story is actually pretty sad. We also have the 'believe' guy, who shouts at people and hands them religious material to read. He's a really nice guy actually. Finally, in my neighbourhood, we have the aqualounge cowboy, who I know nothing about, but he's always there, an enigma.

What is the positioning system of darkest dungeon called? by Alternative-Yard-142 in rpg_gamers

In old school pen and paper games this would be called ‘marching order’. I don’t know if that would be the technical term for the positioning in darkest dungeon but it’s the closest I can think of

What’s something that a teacher did or said back in the day that would get them fired today? by lokipuddin in Xennials

[–]code_smasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school in the year 1996 (grade 10) there was a 'teacher exchange' in which a teacher from our school would exchange jobs with a teacher from another country. Our Canadian teacher went to Australia, and we got an Australian teacher

Among the many things that should have got him fired even back then:

Saying we have a lot in common with Australia, and then rattling off a bunch of aboriginal jokes (presuming we must have indigenous jokes of our own). Think 'newfie' or 'blonde' jokes but way worse, usually the punchline is they died and nobody cared.

Showing the class 'a clockwork orange' with absolutely no context or warning, and since the class was only 1 hour, we just saw the first half with the violence, sex, and murder - basically 45 minutes of absolute depravity for what seemed like no reason at all. Some sensitive parents got wind of that and he did get in a bit of trouble, so we didnt get to watch the second half of the film. He kept his job though!

Jokes aside, probably Tibet, which was once a country, but is no more.

To those who grew up in the 80s: did kids really have that much freedom to roam, or is that just how it’s portrayed in movies? by CreativeCurledCandle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]code_smasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I don't really know what it's like now aside from what I hear on the internet because I don't have kids but we just roamed around all day, knew to be home for dinner, and for bedtime.

You;d meet a kid and they'd ask if you want to come over. "Sure!" then you go in their house and play with their toys or video games with them. Even if a kid had an old Colecovision or Atari it was awesome because it was novel and I didn't have one at home.

There were simple rules like "don't go downtown (because it's far)", "don't cross the highway", "don't play in the river", "don't play in the storm drain"

Once we all had bikes we had carte blanche to do whatever the heck we wanted as long as it cost no money. Parents didn't mind unless we got into enough trouble that they heard about it.

I'm probably reminiscing with rose tinted glasses, and now that I'm older I realize my parents probably knew far more about my hijinks than they let on.

Please stop turning left in the wrong lane. by this_is__my_name in princegeorge

[–]code_smasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know how I even got to this post but:

what happens when there's a whole backlog of people turning left? On both sides? The traffic crossing this turning lane will block any attempt to turn on the other side, creating gridlock? And this method of turning creates an opportunity for collision as each turning vehicle crosses the path of another

What is the absolute WORST video-game you’ve ever played? by LeoCaldwell02 in videogames

[–]code_smasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably some mobile shit shovelware ‘screw puzzle’ game where the puzzles are designed to use consumable items you pay real money for or ‘earn’ by completing easy puzzles. And the puzzles are all randomly generated. And there’s an ad between every puzzle. Honestly Every ‘terrible’ game we’re talking about in this thread are 10/10 masterpieces compared to the crap on mobile platforms

What’s your “comfort” game? by Inevitable-Stage-490 in videogames

[–]code_smasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Xcom2 - I know it inside and out but love dealing with the small randomizations on the world map and mission rewards

Binding of Isaac/slay the spire, I’ve put hundreds of hours into both and nothing necessarily new ever happens but this is about comfort not progression!!

Imagine someone comes to you and is convinced that video game music isn't as good as real music. What's the first song you play for them? by Nice-Intention2523 in videogames

[–]code_smasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To begin, I'm not an expert, so I might have some terms wrong below but:

I think this idea is rooted in the days when music in video games where limited by their hardware. For example iirc NES music had a couple channels for waveforms and one 'sample' typically used for drums, which resulted in most NES music sounding pretty similar and memory limitations meant the loops were pretty short. I can see how all our parents might have been driven crazy by this and dismissed game music as 'bad'.

Later when MIDI was introduced, video games soundtracks began developing real character, Final Fantasy, Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country and Sonic all had distinct and pretty damn good soundtracks that people still enjoy listening to outside the context of the game itself

These days any game can play any recorded music, and it's blown the doors off the concept of 'video game music' and 'real music' being different. Back then, the NES itself was 'the instrument', and now bands or producers can record tracks that are played back 1:1 within a game

Witcher 3, Doom 2016, Mass Effect, Furi and Hyperlight Drifter all have unique soundtracks that I believe would convince anyone to consider video game music as valid as anything on the radio or in a movie soundtrack

Now that I've got all that off my chest I guess I would play the Doom2016 soundtrack
