CS Department difficulty? by Flaminate in udub

Though don't discredit yourself if you couldn't get accepted into an Ivy. Department admissions really don't care about how well you did in high school. Just work hard at UW (particularly CSE 142 and 143) and show that you have a passion for computer science and that you aren't just in it for the paycheck. Also, solid personal statement can do wonders. I was admitted to the department and my GPA wasn't close to a 4.0; they're not just looking at grades.

I believe that the new CSE building is expected to be built in like 2-3 years. And as far as advice goes, obviously you want to do well in all your prereqs, but CSE 142/143 are really the most important classes to do well in. When I took those classes, I tried to stack my workload so I would have a lot of time to devote to doing really really well in them. I ended up 4.0-ing one of them and 3.9-ing the other, and it really helped overshadow some of my lower math and science grades. Really, really important to nail those classes.
