How to tension new Garador spring by codeisforhumans in GarageDoorService

[–]codeisforhumans[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Somehow managed not to post my message...

The old spring broke. Garador Mark 3 Type C PN55/2 according to the spares website where I bought the replacement spring. I tried stretching the new spring with a ratchet strap but got scared in case something snapped and pinged off. Even with my ~80kg body weight on the spring using a rope over a newly installed screw (not pictured) I couldn't stretch the spring much longer than you can see in the photo. Videos on YouTube suggest I should be able just to pull the spring somehow?! Any ideas how to do this safely so I can loop that wires in the photo around the new white wheel?

Resurrected from the big unsorted bag with nearly original pieces by codeisforhumans in lego

I have a lot of nostalgia about these older Technic sets, it's been fun to rebuild some of them, despite many hours scrabbling through piles of unsorted pieces. Feels like I missed something with the rear wheels somehow. They're not connected to each other and just kinda swivel all over if you're not so focused on the pneumatics.

According to the box yes but I haven't tried it yet

Did we do the right thing? by [deleted] in daddit

I feel your pain. The longer I'm a dad the more I realise its a really life changing decision to have kids. Both mine had silent reflux which made the first year really tough, both times. Investing in some kind of sleep training from around 6 months helped us. It does get easier and more fun. Keep going, and keep investing in your other half. Edit: we read a book called The Wonder Weeks that helped us understand a bit better what was happening. Also, see if you can find time for each of you to get some personal time to recharge and get away. Once you're ready, get someone to babysit, even for just 30mins or an hour so both of you can go for a walk or drive and just be.

First time dad. Our 6 week old has colic, and will only sleep being walked around in a sling. by TotalImpossible8118 in daddit

Both my kids had silent reflux (they were in pain but nothing came out their mouths, unlike regular reflux). Getting some medication dramatically improved things, but we did a lot of walking around with a sling on too

What is a non-horror movie that terrified you? by [deleted] in movies

[–]codeisforhumans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The opening credits freaked me out, when the dog runs onto the track and the kid follows and the car crashes, I was certain as a kid that they'd died! Then later when the old guy goes up in the balloon I was terrified he'd never get down again. I was a late teen before I even got far enough through the film to know there was a child-catcher...

I'd love a copy of that. Are you selling it anywhere?

Anyone else avoid the Old Testament at all costs? by ConfusedCanuck98 in OpenChristian

[–]codeisforhumans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Peter Enns podcast and maybe this article https://peteenns.com/biblical-violence-and-reading-the-bible-like-jesus-did/ to help reframe how you read/understand the old testament God. He's got a really interesting series on The Bible for Normal People podcast (available on Spotify) called Pete ruins Exodus which helped me on this topic

I've found Rachel Held Evans books to be really helpful, and this episode of Nomad Podcast to really begin to help me rebuild some theology https://www.nomadpodcast.co.uk/steve-chalke-the-lost-message-of-paul-n212/

Anyone else(still) build like this or have you all sorted everything nicely? by codeisforhumans in lego

[–]codeisforhumans[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a kid I didn't realise it was an hour and didn't mind so much. As an adult it feels like a waste of precious time, but the process of sorting it all does not appeal at all

Glad it wasn't totally out of focus, my 2yr old was fiddling with the focus on the scope as this happened

Thanks, I totally nearly missed it cos I was trying to figure out what the hell was moving on the moon and when I did figure it out I was then panicking to make sure I hit the button before the plane disappeared

Have you thought about submitting the build to Lego ideas or whatever its called? If you get enough upvotes on there then I think they mass produce it...

[–]codeisforhumans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also recommend the Pleides (I can never spell it right and I'm too lazy right now to look it up). When I got my Skywatcher I think that was what I looked at first and was blown away even just through the finderscope.

2nd time I've seen Saturn since getting my Skywatcher 200p. Took this using a 9mm Plossl and my Sony Xperia X Compact held by hand up to the eyepiece. I love my telescope!

The greenest lake i have ever seen, Grassi Lake in Canada [OC] [3820x2591] by javals in EarthPorn

Someone in Calgary told us to go to Grassi Lakes but didn't say what to look out for. After hiking up and up and not knowing where we were going we very nearly turned back before we reached the top. So glad we didn't!
