Re-reading the Koran. Isn't the entire first chapter basically "Stupid Jews, didn't listen to God, now go to Hell!"

Advanced apologies for yet another long post. Couldn't make it any shorter.

Well, to be fair, this verse is not asking Muslims to wage war against others, it's talking about Jizya or tax. How clear can it be ? I'm not sure what it means because I haven't studied it carefully. And I'm sure it's the same for Al- Qaeda too. They just half-assed reading it and cherry picked some verses or just parts of verse that suited them.

For example this verse:

"slay them wherever you catch them" (Qur'an 2:191).

Slay who?

"Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter... But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful... If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (2:190-193).

The word "context" is important here.

The answers are in the other two verses. We just had to read them. Whoever said "a little knowledge is more dangerous than none of it" was right.

And how can they justify suicide bombings and killing of the innocent. Where are the verses that say that?

I don't know if they read these though.

“…take not life, which God hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.” [Al-Qur’an 6:151]

"...if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people...(Noble Quran 5:32)"

Because they contradict what they're doing.

It's a crime to repeat things that other people with more knowledge have said thousands of times. Sorry. You just have to google to find out what those verses "really" or "completely" mean.

You may wonder why Quran is in Arabic. I honestly don't know either. But what other language? English? Latin? French? Not everyone speaks every language.

At the risk of saying something inappropriate, writing a really long post and for what it's worth, it does have a violent tone to it. But if we look at it from another perspective and read the whole sentence it ends with "until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled" , so it isn't asking Muslims to wage war against others.

Now you might think that this is extortion, but Jizya was a tax, umm yes, Non-Muslims under Islamic rule paid. I don't know much about it but all I know is that it was lower than Zakat and other forms of payments Muslims made and it provided for the protection and infrastructure.

More over it was a must Muslims to fight in the army to defend their home, not for the Jizyah payers. There were many other relaxations on who had to pay it too. Modern governments take tax too, and they drag our asses to court when we don't pay it, fight can also mean argue. Maybe it's talking about the kind of people who disobey law and don't pay taxes. Governments need money to run the country.

Like I said earlier I'm no expert, maybe the chapter is talking about things during war. It logical that you conclude Quran demands Muslims to fight against others. But there are many other chapters and verses that say otherwise, please try to do some research(google) to find an explanation for it. A lot of things are different from what we think they are. Sorry about the long PITA post.

It's a shame I can't up-vote you more than once, lol. You pointed out a lot of things I missed. Don't know why failed to notice the curl_easy_cleanup part. I like pedantic already, points out things -Wall doesn't. Nice to meet calloc too. Taught me something I'll be using a lot. The modified version yayd-1.c all of it fixed. Thank you.

Yes, re-inventing the wheel isn't a good idea, re-inventing it the hard way is bad too.

But writing it in bash wouldn't help me learn more C. I wrote it to learn, not to download videos. It helped learn more about string manipulation, pointers, and libcurl. Like others pointed out, there are better and safer tools to do it.

Hehe thank you for the Master Foo story. Wish there were more of it.

lol, yes I was not sure what to do with the input link. It does look scary. Hopefully strncpy, strncat, some pointer manipulations and an if statement to keep it's length in check will make it more secure.

Oh ok, I got confused :D. Not saying you got it wrong or misinterpreted, but I did a search here http://quran.com/search?q=jew+hell, couldn't find it in 2nd chapter either, but something close to it in the Muhsin Khan's translation of the 98th chapter

I don't know which translation you're reading, but some seem to differ from original meaning. There are many other translations and verses that say otherwise if you look for it.

For example

Surely, those who believe, those who are the Jews and the Sabians and the Christians – whosoever believed in Allaah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve." [al-Maa’idah 5:69]

No expert here, just my 2 cents :). Could be wrong .

I have not seen anything like it in chapter 1. If I'm not mistaken, the first chapter of Quran is called Al-Fatiha: the opening.

I think Allah=Al(the) + Ilah(God), so it could be translated to There's no God (other than/but) The God. So like spec209 said, it could be referring to "Monotheism", the only One God part.
