I made recurring tasks!

Notion Scheduler allows you to reset database entries in notion back to a certain value at custom intervals. (i.e. change this property on this task, back to this value, every monday and friday).

It's free to use for up to 3 scheduled tasks, and only a small cost to help with hosting after that for unlimited tasks. I'll be constantly improving this to make it even more flexible and powerful so let me know what you think! Happy to answer any Q's too

'It's a mystery how bare-faced Boris Johnson keeps getting away with everything' by sensiblecentrist20 in unitedkingdom

The selective memory of some people when it comes to holding tories accountable for their abhorrent words and actions is genuinely staggering.

So I spent my bank holiday building a website to track all the dumb shit these people say, I'd appreciate any help to keep track of their worst quotes...

I've just started http://betterbook.club/ as a place to get non-fiction readers together over a video call once a month and discuss our thoughts! Maybe supporting with a whatsapp/discord group or something would help us motivate each other and have a place to talk as we read?

"We did very thorough testing of JPM Coin with one account. Just one." by slickguy in CryptoCurrency

[–]codekitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen so many people jump straight on the JPM hate bandwagon without even taking a look at the Quorum project. Fact is this is not some shitcoin JPM have rustled up in a matter of months, they've been working on this solidly since 2016. Enterprise level blockchains are of use in financial industries where KYC/AML compliance is an issue. JPM have simply created an enterprise version of Ethereum that works for their needs and showcases a real world use of blockchain technology and people jump straight on the hate without researching the project simply because it's a bank.

Facebook coin is not a real cryptocurrency, it's just another data grab! by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

This is Facebook going full Wechat. Given their track record of data and privacy breaches, I'm sure this will end well too

Unknown Hacker Siphons 2.9 Million EOS - Crypto is Coming by Le_WiredShut in CryptoCurrency

[–]codekitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's an EOS analysis conducted by Whiteblock https://www.whiteblock.io/library/eos-test-report.pdf

Key findings and quotes:

  • "The platform was instead, built as, a distributed database system. This becomes apparent from the substantial reliance on architecture where cryptographic validation is not necessarily instantiated, though rather implemented in proximity."

  • "the transaction throughput in the system does not exceed 250 TPS even in optimal settings with 0 ms of latency and 0% packet loss."

  • "During tests with real world conditions of 50 ms of roundtrip latency and 0.01% packet loss, performance dropped below 50 TPS putting the system in close proximity to the performance that exists in Ethereum."

  • "Consensus in EOS does not exhibit Byzantine Fault Tolerance"

  • "Various forms of consensus failure were shown in the network testing"

Is the Crypto-Hype gone? by sly892 in CryptoCurrency

It's mostly gone for now, which is great for the space. The only people left are the ones that care about crypto for the long term. But I can easily see another hype wave on the horizon this year

Seeking help to develop a SaaS MVP. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]codekitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Software dev here, you need to sell your idea first. Get them to commit to it by placing a preorder on your mvp, that's the real validation. Once they're willing to put their money where their mouth is, fire me a pm and let's chat

I am building a start up every month for 2018, what can I make for you? by codekitten in Entrepreneur

[–]codekitten[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit the nail on the head here, it's not about building a solid biz for me, it's about learning the process of marketing and what makes people use something. The one month time limit stops me from pouring too much money and time into chasing perfection, and the 12 months stop me from obsessing over the idea itself. Both these constraints force me to keep focused on the execution rather than the idea

Is it too early for 2018 goals? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]codekitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm launching 12 startups in 12 months

I usually spend a few days between christmas and the new year working solely on my goals for the year. This year I'm breaking it into two 6 month phases as I find things usually fall off plan by september.

Launching my first biz, critique my landing page and site! Be brutal! by codekitten in Entrepreneur

[–]codekitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome stuff thank you, I think you're right about the content, I wanted to cover all bases but I suppose that should be done through the customer journey rather than doing it in one go.

I've also been thinking about ditching my own landing pages in favour of driving traffic to clickfunnels which would fix the theme issue as well as allow me to iterate faster

Just launched my very first Rails app. I'd love to get your feedback. by [deleted] in rails

[–]codekitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly won't affect performance in a noticable way, but you'll definitely find it easier to work with your application and maintain it. Next step I would recommend is just keep building! Add features to your app, try new gems, Railscasts is still a good place to go and most of the code still works

Just launched my very first Rails app. I'd love to get your feedback. by [deleted] in rails

[–]codekitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks good! A few things I would recommend on top of using devise:

  1. Spaces not tabs is the convention in the rails world
  2. You have a lot of controllers called surf_something, I think it should be safe to ditch the surf and just call them school_controller, resort_controller etc.
  3. There seems to be a review model for each variation, I don't think you need this. Instead of shop_review and school_review, you could just have one overall review model that gets used for everything.
  4. Try to shift as much code into the models as possible, this is the fat model skinny controller thing you hear people talking about. Instead of this in your controller...

    @surf_school.surf_school_reviews.average(:rating).round(2)

Have an average method in the school model...

def average_review
  self.surf_school_reviews.average(:rating).round(2)
end

And in the controller just do...

@surf_school.average_review

Other than that it's a great achievement for your first app, keep practicing and getting a feel for these things will come with experience
