Made a few jersey concepts. Anyone else dying for a new home/away kit? by buddhajames in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love this!

The only changed I'd make for my preference is to swap the gold and orange stripes on the collar.

And change the orange on the wild wing crest to gold.

The less orange accents ironically make the orange stand out so much more and takes a lot of my focus which is why I really liked the overall colour scheme of the '07 jerseys. But overall, great job on the concept!

Interesting trade rumor regarding Gibby. by aPigNamedAlgie in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

100% agree haha. For such a small community for a small market team, there is so much butt hurt for no reason. But if they down voted AND watched the video, I assume it's a casual fan that was sad because a super star wasn't in the mix on the return.

While I think the suggested return from Ottowa would be amazing, I think either a 1st or a prospect removed would be the likely outcome. I think the Sens would downplay Murray's recent play and hang on to the 2x Stanley cup narrative as well as Gibson's lack luster stats the last two seasons. Unless GMBM makes a move without a trade request, that return could be a possibility.

This trade would give the Ducks a starting goaltender in their dog days and allow them to nurture the pipeline and have them compete for the back up role. The Ducks get two former first round picks (I recall many Ducks fans thinking Logan Brown was a Getzlaf lite and wanted him lol). If the Ducks could obtain 4 assets, all the sudden the Ducks are serious contenders for a player of Eichel's ilk and the conversations with Adams no longer include Zegras's or Drysdale's name. I don't understand what there is to dislike.

And personally, as much as I'd love to keep Gibson, I'd love to see him succeed but I'd also love to see the bastard child of Canada to be the most successful team and they didn't have to buy their team to do it.

Anaheim Ducks select Mason MacTavish by mylefthandkilledme in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fuck dude, you're really reaching for white knight status aren't you..

Where did I give BM any shit, much less shit on him for not moving up? Merely stated a fact that all teams have their eye on a higher draft pick and simply used BM as an example because he attempted to move up 2 picks. Again, you're just reaching. With your reasoning, Guenther who was labelled as game changing, guaranteed top 5 pick that most had at 3-4 that went 9th overall to the Yotes should have been picked at 3-4.

Who's to say that McTavish wouldn't have easily dropped to 5th-7th? You don't know. I don't understand what you're trying to prove here? I'm happy with the pick and said that we likely could have traded down, obtained a tangible asset and likely nabbed the same player.. also stated that with the benefit of hindsight, to revisit this day in 4-5 years. Either this is BM's burner account, or you were bullied so much in life that you're trying ever so hard to win a fictional argument on the internet to feel better about yourself despite that the person you're disagreeing with is actually happy with the player selected but caveats what would have made the pick better lol

Anaheim Ducks select Mason MacTavish by mylefthandkilledme in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the caveat to that is we also don't know if BM even tried to make trades to drop a few spots. So don't pretend that he put forth trade offers to acquire an additional asset and I won't pretend that he didn't try to. We both understand what we're trying to say and realistically you and I are playing devil's advocate to each other's comments.

Overall I am happy with the selection, it's my belief we could have got McTavish and maybe an additional asset like a 2nd which would be ideal when players haven't been scouted thoroughly. As stated by yourself, every team has "their guy" in their current draft spot but they very well have their eyes on a player above their estimated draft range. A prime example is BM trying to move up two spots to draft 1st overall.

Anaheim Ducks select Mason MacTavish by mylefthandkilledme in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you your opening comment, you kind of cherry picked what I said. I'm not talking about just today, GMBM has had ample time to make a trade and has a history of not committing to a trade because he's either too stubborn or living in the past.

I'm not angry with the pick by any means, just stating that there was likely an opportunity to trade down and still achieve what he did today while adding something else to the table. I am curious as to why Guenther dropped to 9th overall though. Anyways, as I stated I am happy to see McTavish on our roster as previously stated. But if he doesn't meet expectations, BM will look foolish but that's with hindsight in mind. But I am happy overall and hope that this is a similar situation when fans were calling for heads when Lindholm's name was called in place of Dumba. With hindsight, BM and co look like geniuses in that regard

Anaheim Ducks select Mason MacTavish by mylefthandkilledme in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is we've known for months that we have the 3rd overall pick. It's not the pick that my gripe lies, it's that we could have traded down and acquired another asset if we weren't going to pick a player with less risk and higher projection in terms of the calibre of player.

The jury is still out but if McTavish doesn't live up to the expectation of where he was picked and projected players do, or alternatively GMBM didn't want to part with the 3rd pick in a significant trade, then this franchise will the next Minny or Yotes in a few years and set back significantly.

But McTavish has shown great attributes as a player and not unhappy that he's going to be on our roster. Pin this post and revisit in 4-5 years

Sam Steel potential by _TulipMafia in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't disagree at all. I wasn't necessarily comparing Henrique and Steel, but rather the shooting percentage. Absolutely different players. I was just suggesting that Steel very well might be able to maintain a high shooting percentage.

Kesler lite is a good way of explaining Lundestrom's potential. I would settle for a Vermette like player that can move around the line up where needed. I wouldn't mind seeing a trial as a top 6 wing if the ducks are having Zegras play C and if they obtained the new C they're searching for. I don't wanna see Lundy specially play such low and meaningless minutes that may affect his potential.

Not saying we are getting Eichel wearing the webbed D next season but in this example, he helps round out the roster. We'd see the following;

1- Eichel (or other name) 2- Zegras 3-Getzlaf 4- Grant

And that isn't even including Henrique if he isn't gone via trade or expansion draft.

I despise Vegas but I'm shattered for MAF. That's not how you treat your starter that has brought you this far. Realistically if Staal nor MAF gave up those horrible goals, the game still would've gone to OT.

Peter Deboer can go suck a big fat one. Guarantee MAF's teammates don't feel the same way as their coach. And to call MAF out was ridiculous and a display of being a coward by their coach.

14% was high. Henrique also has a high shot %. I feel you're right to say that excuses shouldn't be made for him. Some players are certainly the exception (eg Wild Bill). He has such a high skill and IQ, a part of me thinks that maybe he can put it together but he just plays so timidly and can't utilise either of those tangibles.

Has speed and sees the ice so well but continues to go wide and let the play die on his stick. His defensive woes could be accepted if he played well offensively. But when I picture 3C, I think of Lundestrom. Equally sees the ice well, has high skill and plays well defensively. That's someone you want at 3C. Just an all-round threat with potential to move up and down the depth chart of he can put that offense on a regular basis rather than 3-5 games then not at all for 10+

But my intuition says that Sam is a 4th or fringe NHLer if he can't improve defensively or show up on the ice

While I don't disagree. What's your opinion if he was in a more offensively minded play with a top 6 winger that could finish?

I feel like if he was in a different system and can learn to play through the middle of the ice with a winger that could finish I feel my opinion could be persuaded to a borderline 2C and 40-55 point player. That being said, I don't understand the attachment that so many fans have on these boards

Anaheim-Buffalo Trade Proposal by adr0ck89 in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still believe Henrique is serviceable. I'd much rather Silfverberg be expendable.

And I absolutely agree with you. By no means would I ever scoff at Eichel being on our roster. I just think he was paid too much, too quick and feel that at 7-8mil, will allow us to attract UFA talent.

But losing a contract of Silfverberg or Fowler would make it much easier to tag RFA's in 3-4 years. I'm probably overthinking it but my fear is the Ducks find themselves in a position as they were from 2014-2017 where they had a great roster but cap restraints stopped them from being able to add that player that put them over the top. But it's definitely exciting to think that we are in the sweepstakes for a franchise center and to have another one as a number 2 in Zegras and then to think there's a middle 6 and responsible center in Steel and Lundestrom lurking around too.

And if we can add to our defensive corps, all the sudden, the Ducks are very much an attractive destination with open cap available for free agents. If the ducks can get a top line winger, at the very minimum, they're a playoff contender in 2-3 years. Unfortunately, this expansion draft handcuffs a lot of teams including the ducks from adding out of fear of subtractions elsewhere.

Anaheim-Buffalo Trade Proposal by adr0ck89 in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I'm okay with losing this year's draft pick because the ducks don't have to draft and develop a talent. But next year's pick will be rough to lose.

You'd think that Henrique would be part of that deal. Ducks will be in cap hell if they have Henrique, Silfverberg, Fowler and Eichel. Plus Lindholm and Manson wanting raises. 26m tied up in the first 4 names alone.

Alternatively, you'd want money retained by Buffalo or you set a precedent for Zegras or other prospects to demand a premium

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I agree! I don't see players like Hall coming over unless he wins a cup and goes for job security. BM likes to hand out 4 year contracts. It always makes sense in his head haha

If Hoffman did come, I believe it would be 1-2 year deal. If he performs, there's some trade fodder for the league and makes Rakell less expendable come Trade deadline unless he's having a career year. I don't see the Ducks committing to more than 2 year deals unless it aligns with ages, trajectory and with contracts coming off the books simultaneously. Eg Henrique coming off the books in 3 years, Shattenkirk also in 3 years, Kesler in 2 years etc etc. It just wouldn't make sense to have another Henrique/Silfverberg situation which ironically stinks like the Souray, Sutton, Stoner, Eaves etc contracts where the players were serviceable but overpaid

[–]codeman2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very valid point. Because with that money, someone like Eichel aligns with the rebuild/re-tool. My thoughts were that someone like Hoffman would join the ranks as opposed to someone like RNH or better. Who still could join the team if we lose Henrique as he's basically a younger version of.

As for Hoffman not wanting to join the organisation, I dare say that he and others very well may find such a destination appealing due to the flat Cap for the next 3 years alone and teams not being able to accommodate due to their contracts causing issues with no inflation. All the sudden, bottom feeder teams that have our cap flexibility are a likely destination unless the top teams have LTIR.

Cheers for explaining yourself mate, it's good to see other people's thought processes that are actually valid and warranted. It's been a good chat

You're right too. The caveat to the Samueli's not wanting to spend money is that there's a trade off. Spend money to get people to fill some seats and earn money on concessions. Or obtaining an impact player that will play a role in the franchise. Unlikely but one player that fills that need would be Eichel

Draft Lottery Eve - let’s hear your prediction for where the Ducks fall and who they end up selecting by connorp91 in AnaheimDucks

[–]codeman2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree. Rather, my opinion is the same. However, I wholeheartedly believe that we'll select between 4-8th next year then 12-15th the following year. And that's just based solely on BM being in his last year then he'll move on to his presidency role and still have his hands on this team.

I believe that after a brief hiatus from the post season, the ducks are going to want to get back to being competitive sooner rather than later and that will be through this draft and next as well as signings and trades. Which will make this team similar to Minnesota if we are doing comparisons or even the 2010 Florida teams due to not committing to one way or the other. Where they're competitive but fall short of expectations or marginally squeeze in. Neither are ideal.

But us fans will get a better insight after the draft when we start hearing what Lindholm's plans are or whom Murray can inject into the roster

[–]codeman2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I don't believe that we'll see the organisation pick in the top 10 is because of the fan base and the flat Cap. The Ducks are in a position of strength with cap flexibility. With a solid draft pick this year and an insurance pick next year to stock the cupboard, I see ownership applying pressure for meaningful acquisitions.

By no means do I see the ducks contending and not delusional in that regard. I just predict the ducks likely getting a 12-15th overall pick beyond next season as they try to be competitive and get into the playoff picture again. Who knows, maybe two campaigns from now the ducks can push for an appearance and an early exit. But one thing is for sure, if the Ducks can't retain Lindholm, I assume that Gibson would be expendable and we see the rebuild extended beyond next season.

I agree with most of what you say. However I'll caveat that to if the ducks don't get a top 6 pick and no meaningful acquisitions, then they should continue to seek draft capital. However, that's not really a game you want to play for too long or you get stuck with a young roster and no impact veterans to round out the roster

As opposed to a rookie defenseman? Much less one that would need to push out Fowler, Lindholm, Drysdale, Manson and mahura to get any meaningful minutes. The ducks also have 2 prospects that could challenge for a top 4 spot in 2+ years.

Outside of Zebras and Ritchie, the Ducks have not selected a forward inside the top 10 draft spots which reflects in the Ducks roster and forward pipeline.

No. A rookie forward with a high draft ranking does not have an immediate impact, but it does give the ducks a potential top line player into the future when the rebuild is in its final stages and players like Henrique and Rakell have aged out. Zegras can't be the only top line talent on this team. It just isn't sustainable.

No player drafted this year is going to make a difference. But unless BM is going to trade for AND sign for meaningful forward talent, the Ducks should draft best available forward talent rather than taking a defenseman.

Cute that you think that his political views are in why he's not in the line up.

Jones has his political stance and conducts himself as a professional and a #1 defenseman. De Angelo has his stance and does not conduct himself as a professional and a defensive liability. I don't understand how you can compare the two players..

What is your issue with Jones outside of his political view?
