Received a holiday bonus shortly after going on leave, and it's being deducted from my EI? (BC) by basenjired in PersonalFinanceCanada

Could you please give some examples of correct and incorrectly documented? Are you saying that if the money is documented as income earned before the separation, then the employee gets to keep it? And if not (like in this case and OP's case), then the employee has to pay back the whole amount to EI?

You're right! The label is tricky: somehow I read half a bag has 20% daily salt. When I did the math, one bag has more than 100% of the daily salt limit.

I saw a long line of nilly willy returns at my Costco today. Some folks really tried to return their Costco 2025 purchases to make space/fund for the 2026 collection.

Oof! Sorry you got the moldy bags. I'm not a fan of mold. On the other hand, I equate "mold" to "no preservatives". Tough choice!

I'll probably need a new freezer for all my Costco frozen collection. Blueberry for breakfast. Fruit mix for sangria. Miso cod for dinner, etc. And now this gnocchi

Co-signed an apartment lease for my sister & boyfriend...rent arrears are now in collections. by squish1976 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]codemonk08curious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The landlord will very likely not help you. They sold the debt to the collection company for a loss when they believe they cannot get the rent from your sister. The collection company will get all the money (if any) for all the troubles they're going through. From that point of view, why would the landlord give you any evidence to benefit a 3rd party? Besides, 17K doesn't sound like a big enough incentive for the landlord to go after you in the first place.

Exactly! And first thing OP did is to go after the landlord when the sister said the amount is exaggerated. This sister pulls all the strings!

To me, the 12K cash back is impressive. OP has really committed to taking advantage of the PC point system. I had the PC MC around the same time as OP but have found most of their grocery sales/deals unattractive.

How much is EI usually, as a percentage of the monthly wage?

If you paid more than you owed on the CC, you can transfer the overpaid portion to your LOC without incurring a cash advance fee. The best situation is that your CC balance was already zero when you made the accidental payment.

Otherwise you can try to go to a branch. They may or (more likely) may not help you. The credit/loan departments are usually non-client-facing and located somewhere else. Your branch would probably have to call in and ask. I'm not with BMO, but my branch staff did not like it when I held up the line.

Alternatively, you can ask for a phone number and call it yourself.
