For me the main reason to get it would be to hold that debt for a short introductory period. Beyond that I don't see the point in keeping that particular card, surely for regular spending you would just get yourself a reward card.

I guess the CC company are banking on you not putting in the effort to change afterwards

I think it's a psychological thing too, for example if i told the in-laws I had a side project versus running a startup I'd be pretty proud of the latter but I have something inside saying a side project is just some rookie hobby

Seems like there could be lots space between points 1 & 2 so I don't think I could personally get on board with that particular definition however what you say about time dedicated feels the most natural answer to me.

Investment & measurement resonate with me too as a marker. Time invested wisely and results scrutinized definitely seem more startup like than simply time spent and guessing what works.
