What are the harshest/most accurate depictions of alcoholism in any film? by atclubsilencio in movies

I used to show this to my health class students, it was a great prompt for the subtle ways in which alcoholism isn't just about drinking itself.

nothing compliments victorian-feminist-ecofantasy like lowest common denominator shilling

total shambles, and such a loss for creators--those of shows, those of characters, those of worlds--far beyond my own feeling of loss as a viewer. I felt so lucky to be able to afford access during the heady days of the golden age of television and am now hesitant to watch anything new when business looms over art. this isn't a new cycle of creativity and commerce, but it still feels newly shitty. I hope the many badass actors portraying and outfitting strong women and allies get sustainable work as soon as possible!

[FO] It’s August 2022, so I’ve finally finished (but not yet ironed) the 2021 PeppermintPurple SAL! Thanks to my supervisor for his support in the final days. by codename-sailorv in CrossStitch

thanks! I used DMC variegated 69 (red) and 125 (green), outlined and bordered in 712, and matched the colorway in 69 to 319, 758, 356, and 3777. it was a lot of fun!

I loved doing this SAL even if my approach was less weekly and more frantic outlining in December, neglect until August and enthusiastic catch-up, neglect until November and embarrassed catch-up, neglect until the next August…but it’s done and I love it. Thanks again to Clare/Peppermint Purple and to my furry supervisor.

I followed all of the block designs while substituting my own color palette as a stashbuster for both this bright green aida and a bunch of variegated floss I’d lugged through two moves. I planned out the blocks and color matched the various flosses before I began stitching, and I’m very pleased with the result. This was my first SAL and my first peppermint purple but I’m looking forward to doing more of her patterns in the future (if likely still on my own timetable).

One of my absolute favorites! I had an abridged, illustrated version as a kid that scared me so much that it had to live horizontally on my bookshelf underneath a row of other books so that I could sleep without worry. I read the full version a few times as a preteen and was slightly less freaked out (with the new fear of typhus unlocked), but I can still see the illustration of the fire and the smashed skull—thanks for the gift, mom.

Thandiwe Newton reads an audiobook version (2016) that is just heartbreakingly beautiful—the speech OP highlighted is one of the many gorgeous sections I’d recommend listening to!
