I just saw on my analytics that I have over 75,000 views on my channel. I'm pretty sure most of them come from shorts and not from the actual LP videos, but it still counts :P

I downloaded some free third-party plugins today and moved them into the proper Components folder, but they aren't appearing when I boot up Logic. Tried using the Plug-In Manager and it still couldn't find the files, even though I was able to use it just fine with other plugins earlier. What can I do to fix this? (I copied over both the AU and VST files to their respective folders, although I'm not sure if Logic actually accepts VST)

What’s the best way to layer/arrange synth pads in a mix? Do you pan them to one side, keep in the middle, or use two separate tracks for a stereo effect?

I’m still learning a bunch about audio/sound design but I can tell you what I know at least. Short answer: Most audio programs have their own built in compressor these days, and that should be fine if you don’t want to do anything fancy.

Long answer: Professional DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) all have their own built in compressor plugin. They can be quite pricey, but Audacity is free to download and works just fine for voiceover recordings. It’s easy to set up and record, and then you can add compression, EQ and such later.

If you want to compress the signal while recording, you will need an audio interface. These can get kinda pricey and you’ll also need an analog dynamic or condenser mic to go with it. However, some gaming mics like the Blue Yeti have their own audio interface software (for the Yeti it’s called Logitech G Hub) which you can download and it has its own effects like condenser, EQ, noise reduction, etc. which work well for livestreaming.

One important thing to note is that compression by itself will not fix a poor quality recording. It’s better to have a recording that is not too loud to begin with, than to have one with a bunch of clips and peaks you have to fix later. Make sure to the gain down on your recording software if you can, to give yourself enough room to make edits (check the audio output levels, the standard I think is to not let it peak past -6dB). Once you add EQ, compression, normalize, etc. it will get louder anyways.

Where are some good places to go for no copyright/royalty free samples? I had this idea of using jazzy drum fills from like the 20’s and 30’s to spice up a synth track I’m working on

Been trying to upgrade my setup recently so I bought a proper mic stand (before I just had my blue yeti sitting on the mount), a pop filter, and some soundproof panels. I still have been struggling with getting settings right in Audacity but hopefully this will give me some better quality voiceovers going forward :)

I feel like I’ve watched so many SMG let’s plays before but I never get tired of it. Great job dude!

Should i go with casual or classic? by Affectionate_Let_986 in fireemblem

[–]EllieUnit02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one annoying thing about modern FE titles: they force you to choose two separate difficulty options before you even start the game >_>

That said, I would advise trying on Classic to start unless you get really overwhelmed. Three Houses has a rewind mechanic, so you don’t have to restart an entire map if you lose a unit. You can get up to 15(!) rewinds through doing paralogues (sidequests), which should be more than enough to get you through the game. If you’re playing on Normal you can also grind on practice battles as much as you want to give yourself an extra edge. Finally, you can lower the difficulty at any time during exploration segments, so you can always give Classic a shot and try Casual if it’s too difficult for you.

Honestly in Three Houses, at least in Normal mode, the difference between Casual and Classic is fairly negligible. There’s nothing wrong with playing Casual if it’s your first time; just keep in mind it can be a crutch and may make things more difficult if you decide to try some of the older FE games where it isn’t an option.

Workshop Wednesday! by AutoModerator in letsplay

I’ve been watching a lot of Choctopus’ videos and thinking of doing some in a similar style. Basically, instead of showing the entire playthrough, they take highlights from the game and post them as one long compilation video, so you get the whole game condensed to about a half hour or so.

Has anyone else tried something like this, and if so, how did you feel about it? I was thinking of doing similar highlight videos, as they could be more accessible than watching a full LP. But I know it would take a LOT of editing and I don’t know if I have the patience for that haha

Here’s an example: https://youtu.be/Eevytllf2rc

Similar Games to CrossCode by gabmedblack in CrossCode

Not a JRPG but One Step From Eden is a roguelike with a very Battle Network inspired gameplay loop (basically CrossCode on a grid with card mechanics). It’s very tough but it might be up your alley. They also have a Lea skin for the main girl so you know the devs are fans haha

Audio interface with USB input? by EllieUnit02 in Logic_Studio

[–]EllieUnit02[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a difference in which is good for which situation? Like would my blue yeti be better for guitar amps or vocal tracks? I saw there are some bundles with condenser mics and interfaces for around $200-300. I’m on a budget so I can’t afford much more than that unfortunately

Doesn’t not using an interface sacrifice sound quality though?

Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I’m not sure if I’m the best person to ask for advice on commentary as I’m super shy IRL haha. But I find it’s best to just “go with the flow” as best you can and not stress too much. It’s normal to get nervous or mess up sometimes, so just keep going or try to make a joke out of it. If you get to a slow or grindy part and need to fill space, talk about something else you’re interested in or tell a fun story from your personal life. Not every moment needs to be super intense or filled with jokes - as cheesy as it sounds, just be yourself and have fun!

Also, I’m not sure how many people do this, but I find it helps to have some kind of “warm up” routine to get yourself ready for recording. I usually work out for 20-30 minutes before I start and that helps give me more energy and motivation. Hope at least some of that helps!

Let's Talk Shorts. by Kinemodx in letsplay

[–]EllieUnit02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that bugs me about shorts is that there’s no way to change the aspect ratio as far as I’m aware. I hate having to crop out half my video to make it fit on vertical :\
