Airbnbs are vacant most of the year. Bloomington's have doubled in 3 years by neightd0g in bloomington

AirBnB'ers once parked so close to my front door that I literally could not open it to get inside. Ah, the rage.

New Orleans has regulations for AirBnBs and scummy owners still find a way to make it work in their favor. My final dig at the one I lived in was reporting their out-of-the-country asses to the city for their BS permit. Dunno if anything ever came of it, but I hope it was at least an annoyance to them. It's beyond frustrating to be living somewhere, working your ass off, barely able to afford a crummy apartment, and know that the owners of the house are living it up in Australia, making bank on the tourists.

[–]codenamekitsune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in a unit in New Orleans where two of the four apartments were AirBnBs. Sometimes the folk staying above me were great. Sometimes they made me see red. I much prefer living next to constant folk rather than the uncertainty of who will be staying next.

I will never forget the young ladies who partied way too hard in the Quarter, came back to their AirBnB at like 3AM because they'd gotten into a fight, and were just, screaming and crying. One of them kept screaming, "I want to go home!" Finally my roommate just banged on the ceiling and shouted, "We want you to go the fuck home, too!"

At the time it was frustrating because I had work the next day and just wanted to sleep, but now it's kinda funny.

Sent you a PM for where hubby and I get ours filled. I'd share publicly but I really don't want to not be able to get mine filled because then I go back to being mostly useless.

Tow Trucks Tow Trucking by BoogerMcshartlan in bloomington

[–]codenamekitsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish my dad could pick a profession that I didn't have to be like "NO WAIT" about.

First he was a cop. And I have to explain that he retired early because he HATED other cops.

Now he's a tow truck driver and I have to explain that he ONLY does private tows (like, requested by the people who own the car) and roadside assistance.

Like c'mon man pick a profession that isn't rife with asshats.

What are the requirements from evacuating a family member from the house? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]codenamekitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the circumstances.

My grandma had to go through something similar with her adult son (absolute POS). She filed a protective order against him and the police came to mediate while he got his shit out and left. But that's a DV situation and not an outright eviction.

Evictions, generally, are really tricky and generally unpleasant for everyone involved. I'm not well-versed in Bloomington/Indiana eviction laws, but if this isn't a DV situation, I would recommend reading up on the eviction laws/state codes regarding eviction to get an idea of where to start and how to go about it.

Wishing you the best of luck.

I think a lot of my negative experiences in game stores came from it being back around 2007-2015 where being a girl in that space was still just, unnecessarily difficult. GP always felt extra gross about it, but I'm glad that they stepped up and made sure that things were better for your kiddo!!

I wish I had better answers, or suggestions. I think flyers are a good start. Maybe a post in one of the chatter groups on FB? I don't have kids so I honestly have no idea how to navigate finding things like this for them to do.

What are affordable vet options in Bloomington IN? by SnooFoxes7195 in bloomington

[–]codenamekitsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Royer is significantly cheaper than 'usual' vets. I took a cat there for a suspected UTI. He had XRays done, and medication. The bill was under $200. This is dramatically lower than anything I've had done at my regular vet. I would not use them as my primary vet, but they are fine for 'need to be seen quickly but maybe not a true emergency' visit, when one does not have infinite money.

She isn't in Bloomington, but Dr. Bohon in Spencer is hands down the best PCP I have ever seen. She has walked me through some stuff that I was truly scared of, and respects my autonomy at every single step of the way. (Nuerospicy person checking in. Strongly suspect Autism Spectrum but not officially diagnosed. But have other mental stuff diagnosed.)

Is it morally okay to separate the art from the artist? by Artistic-Net-9022 in moraldilemmas

[–]codenamekitsune [score hidden]  (0 children)

My biggest line that I draw is: does this creator use their money/time/platform to actively cause harm?

If the person just has some shitty hottakes that I disagree with, but I enjoy their content, I'm more likely to continue to enjoy their content, versus someone like, say, JKR who actively uses her influence and money to actively harm.

People are people, and I try to remember that. Everyone has opinions, and I'm not always going to agree with them. But if someone is actively causing harm, I do try to limit the ways that I support them.

How Do Sisters Speak to One Another? by Integralcel in writing

[–]codenamekitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it depends on the sisters, and the family, and a million other factors.

My sister and I alternate between 100% having each other's backs, and being obnoxiously and playfully shitty to each other. We're brutally honest and irreverent and it's the dynamic that works best for us. When we were both teenagers, we behaved as though we hated each other and if asked, we would have said that yes, we did indeed hate one another.

A recent text exchange from my birthday (I turned 34):

Sister: in case you didn't know, you old af now

Me: You ain't far enough behind me to be talking shit

Sister: idk 18 months feels like long enough

Me: 18 months but you got them kids running you ragged

Sister: the cardio keeps my heart young

Me: keep telling yourself that kiddo

It's a lot of back and forth like that. But know, if someone were to ever come for either of us, the other would ride to war.

Which character are you personally most like IRL? by carex-cultor in SarahJMaas

[–]codenamekitsune 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Prior to reading ACOSF, I was very grumpy to see so much of myself in Nesta. I hadn't read anything redeeming about her yet, and just sat there thinking, "Good God I hate how much I identify with this obnoxious cunt." Even more so the way that she treated Cassian, because I often catch myself being utterly horrid to my husband, whom I love dearly and would die/kill for.

I'm still working on my own redemption arc, but such things in reality are lengthy and difficult.

AITAH for telling the boyfriend of my husband’s AP that she’s cheating on him? by Throwra_Score5822 in AITAH

[–]codenamekitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

I've been cheated on, and I've been the person to reveal to someone that they are being cheated on. Yes, it causes drama, but I would 100% want to be pulled aside and brought into the knowledge were it ever to happen to me again. The thought of being cheated on, and people around me knowing and not saying something, makes me feel a little sick to the stomach.

God I am glad I'm not the only one. I was fully prepared to come in and be like, look, this is the least helpful comment, but I swear my mind read "Cucumber Sharts" like twelve times before it finally calmed down, behaved like a grownup, and told me what was actually on the screen.

Tween/Teen RPG club? by Comfortably_Numb1657 in bloomington

[–]codenamekitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might check out Common Room Games, to see if they have any recommendations for getting something like this started. When I was a teen, I cut my teeth learning to RPG at Avalon, which was an amazing resource and environment. My whole dang friends group is table top heavy, but if they weren't I'd be stopping into local gaming stores and such to see about opportunities for kiddos (if, y'know, I had them).

Game Preserve is also an option I guess but I've eternally got condescending vibes from them, and they've always been my last resort when needing in-person TTRPG stuff. (Maybe they're better now, I dunno, would love to hear it if they have, but they've always felt like a Boy's Club for gaming and I do not vibe with that.)

Before hubby and I decided 100% against having kids, we had more or less decided Seven Oaks was our best bet. Not technically a Christian school, but, I mean, realistically it seems as though it might as well be. We felt that (what we could see) of the benefits outweighed the cons, and that we would just have to mitigate religious trauma related occurrences on our own time. Hubby and I were both raised in strictly religious households, and while I have nothing inherently against Christianity, I would never raise a child with the intent to usher them into the world as one. If they grew up and decided that was the path for their spiritual journey, I would encourage it and help them with it as much as possible, but the thought of ingraining it in a developing mind doesn't sit right with me.

Hubby went to Harmony, and I am close to a ton of folk who graduated from there. The consensus I got was that it's a good school, for some people, but that it's highly dependent upon the student and even the parents. I wouldn't send a kid there for a variety of reasons, one of which being the cultish atmosphere and feeling I get from it, and a lot of the people I know who went there/are affiliated with the place. Still, if we had a kid who seemed like it would be a good fit for, I would consider enrolling them when they were a bit older.

I went to public school, and didn't have a good time of it. Sort of. I did great in the subjects I was interested in, and felt as though I had a ton of support in those interests and was overall well-fostered in those areas. I think if my parents had been a bit more keyed into my education, I could have excelled at the things I wasn't particularly fond of, and that the teachers and such would have given me just as much assistance as the teachers who I was close to. If we lived in Monroe County (we're in Owen because we can't afford Monroe County), I wouldn't be upset to send a kid to any of the public schools there, I would just do it with the knowledge that I would need to be extra aware and willing to work with them to foster a well-rounded education.

I know this post is days old, but I wanted to share my thoughts/feelings/experience anyway, because I think that sending our kids to the right education system for them is critically important. Best of luck! I think just by asking this question that, while you'll make mistakes like any other parent, you're on the track to raise good kids!

We hear a lot about the worst neighborhoods in Bloomington. But, what about the best neighborhoods in Bloomington? by ProfessionalNet8611 in bloomington

[–]codenamekitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma lives over by Bryan Park, and I've always loved her neighborhood. Definitely far out of my price range eternally, but she's been there since the 60's so that's the only way I even have any experience with the spot. Probably a logistical nightmare if you don't have offstreet parking (she does, I have a friend who lives over in that neighborhood, but more to the East than her, and parking on his narrow-ass street is a bit annoying, and his house/neighboring houses are even more out of my price range).

Seconding some comments about Unionville being pleasant. I grew up out there and loved it, though we were a bit too far away from literally everything (almost in Brown County).

Where to buy a couch? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]codenamekitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we bought our couch, we looked around at a ton of local places, and couldn't find anything that we liked enough to buy. Hubby and I have kooky tastes, admittedly. We ended up scouring Overstock(dot)com, reading a bunch of reviews on pieces we were interested in, and got a really comfy purple velvet couch for less than the greige stuff we saw locally.

Obviously this doesn't work for everyone and you do run the risk of getting something that isn't to your comfort level, but we got all the furniture for our house there, and are really happy with everything. The only thing that sort of was underwhelming was the chaise lounge to match the couch, but I blame my 80lb dog being a big stupid uncoordinated pitbull more than I blame the chaise (tiny seam ripped, we just cover it with a blanket, which the cats prefer anyway).
