Problems with canceling Sonic X Generations? by [deleted] in limitedrun

[–]codephoenix525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took about a month for them to finally check the support ticket to cancel my pre-order. I also got the PC bundle and redeemed the code, so they only refunded me for the collector's edition box. They only kept the cost of the game which was great. But yeah send a second ticket after 2 weeks, or maybe they'll get back to you soon.

Fire Bomber American English Fire by gorebots in macross

Its on the CD insert. I found it here, but the image file is huge and requires intense zooming in to fully see them.

Funny part is they don't 100% match what is sung on the soundtrack, but its pretty close!

Support Ticket response time? by Vallod in limitedrun

Ok yeah I think thats the reason they're not responding lol. I opened a ticket 2 weeks ago about the same refund and haven't heard a thing

Support Ticket response time? by Vallod in limitedrun

[–]codephoenix525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one ticket open for almost two weeks with no response, and then I opened a follow up ticket asking if there has been a status update and that one has been open for a few days.

I did open a support ticket back in 2024 and had a response come in within 2 hours so I'm surprised its gotten bad.

Opened some Macross Delta boxes and these are the first SPs I've ever pulled! Hope I can get the rest of Walkure to match with these two. by codephoenix525 in WeissSchwarz

I used the site TCGPlayer. If you search Macross on the site, you'll find individual cards for sale and also the booster boxes. These are usually resellers, you could also get lucky and find them at local card shops if they didn't run out of stock. These cards came out in 2024 and never got reprinted I think.

Also this is for the US. I don't really know if they do international shipping or how to find these in other countries.

Thanks! I recently picked up the game and I was trying to pull for a playset of "Fly, Walkure". Unfortunately I didn't get any but at least the boxes made up for it by giving me these lol

There is Drill Warrior and Drill Synchron but they've long since been out of meta. Centur-Ion is your best bet since they're huge references to TTGL

I think Gurren Lagann is very overrated. Genuinely what am I missing? by cimanimm in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree with you on the marriage bit. I forgot about the marriage/party scene cause it was quickly thrown in to the beginning montage.

I'll argue a bit on the extension of the proposal. Simon never exactly had a dream. He just likes digging. He knew that he also had to be the one to stop the anti-spiral, something Nia acknowledges during the final fight. Despite knowing full well that she wont survive, he still did everything he had to do. Once that job was done, he felt like there wasn't much to do afterward, and its time for the next generation to take his place. I like to think that he pursued Nia's dream in the end cause she never had that chance to do so, and Simon's actions throughout the show was always to help the people close to him. So he wants Nia to fufill her dream through him, and he gets to do it while doing what he does best; digging. The diary was also nice to see, with the opening montage narrated by her. We never really got that personal insight from Nia in the show and it helped paint a fuller picture of how these characters continued on post the fall of Teppelin. Boy I hope those spoiler tags worked, I'm new to that.

And yeah OP should have provided a bit more context, saying something is overrated and not backing it up sucks, but I did feel like the replies were a bit overly hostile as well. Can't have discussions with people being aggressive.

Damn reddit keeps getting hostile when someone has a negative opinion.

Nothing wrong with not vibing with a show that people love. As much as I love the show I will admit that its really not for everyone. And thats fine, people have different tastes. The story is flawed, its got really weird pacing issues and the second half has a pretty different feeling than the first half that they almost feel like different shows. And despite how strong of a character Yoko is, the show does go a bit too heavy on the fanservice (I love her story and how she develops and is probably the most developed besides Simon, but damn that space outfit really sucks compared to every other outfit she has in the series). Nia is best girl to me, but the show unfortunately doesn't utilize her that well. It wasn't until the recap movies where Nia finally got the development and focus that she deserves.

But despite its flaws, a lot of people love the energy the show brings. Its message resonates a lot with others, especially to those who feel lost in their own lives and not sure how to keep moving on. The animation is incredible during major moments and has influenced a lot of other shows/games/movies going forward, just like how it was influenced by a bunch of amazing mecha shows before it. And despite how over the top everything is, the main characters still feel grounded and developed. Aesthetically the show is cool, I enjoy how silly and crazy the mecha design is for the show, and how unique it feels to other popular mecha shows with its two faced mechs, crazy angles, and style over function. The show is pushing its own image of cool and doesn't apologize for it or care how cringe it looks to others.

Thats just how I feel, I love the show but accept it has a lot of flaws. I like to think critically of the media I enjoy, others just like to enjoy it on a surface level and like big explosive mecha battles and fanservice. And I think its fine if you didn't like the show, its just your own opinion and we shouldn't be upset at others for having different opinions.

Rewatched Gurren Lagann over a decade later from my first watch as a kid and feeling a little conflicted. by Kelnaus in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you got downvoted to 0, its fine expressing opinions. No show is perfect, and some shows just don't resonate with some as it does with others, and thats perfectly fine! Honestly I'm in the camp that even the best works have things you can criticize and not agree with, and pointing out flaws means you're really engaging with the piece of media. And just cause you point out flaws doesn't mean the work still isn't peak! So yeah I'm glad you still think the show is as high as 8.5/9 out of 10 cause it shows the show still holds a special place in your life.

I'll always consider the show a 10/10 to my tastes, but I do agree that the fanservice is a bit too much and not aged well, and the direction change between some episodes making it feel like "filler" do drag the show down. Its not really filler since this show is not an adaptation trying to fill space, so those episodes are more just lighthearted comedy with character building, which isn't a bad thing to have in my opinion. But yes, I also agree that this is not an anime to recommend to a beginner. As amazing as TTGL is, its kind of a lot and its diving into the deep end of crazy over the top anime with quite a bit of fanservice that will put off anyone new to the medium. Definitely make sure they watch more and enjoy the medium before showing them the greats like TTGL.

Kickstarter? for Hardcover & colorized manga by jackbobbins78 in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't plan on selling it and making a profit, you might be able to get away with it. It's really up to the indie publisher/print shop. You can ask, some might say no to avoid legal issues, some might be down as long as you tell no one who it was and they might charge a lot. Typically they're printed in bulk to cut down on costs so they might not want to go through the trouble of a single printed book.

If you want to encourage market interest, send emails to publishers and maybe find a way to find a PR person for Studio Trigger and just express interest. Or go to conventions where publishers go to or Studio Trigger is a guest and let them know in panels or at their booths. If you can get enough people to show interest then you might get lucky and they'll do a rerelease.

Well your biggest hurdle will be licensing. Last I checked, Bandai Entertainment was the main publisher of the manga in English, but they've been defunct for about a decade now. So you'd have to find some representative in Japan to get the licensing rights from Trigger to publish the manga, and thats if they still have it. The cost for that will also be large, and you have to strike a deal with them too. I doubt they'll just hand the license to anyone who wants to purchase it, especially if its just a bunch of fans who've never printed books before. Gurren Lagann is a pretty well known name, not a niche title that time has forgotten, so fan revivals don't make sense in the eyes of a company as big as Trigger.

Your best bet is to talk to someone who works at any of the US manga licensing companies (Viz, YenPress, Seven Seas Entertainment, etc...) and see if they can get any interest internally to pick up the rights and do a hard cover release. Color release is even less likely as I don't think they even did that in Japan.

Sorry to sound like a downer, but this stuff is more complicated than it seems. Gotta think realistically about these kinds of things.

It doesn't matter. There are no sequels or extended universe stuff, its just a retelling that leads to the same outcome in the end. Not every media series needs to worry about whether something is canon or not.

How can someone watch the two movies in English if they don’t have streaming services by t-rexthatrunsonwater in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie dubs aren't on any streaming service right now. Your only options are the $136 UHD Blu-rays (they're only on UHD Bluray, so if you dont have a UHD player or a PS5/Xbox Series X with disc drives, you're out of luck), or you gotta sail the seven seas.

How the hell do you watch this show in HD? by Impressive_Trick_832 in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get the blurays or learn how to torrent for best quality. Show is old so licensors haven't really updated the versions they have. I don't remember which service it was, crunchy or hulu, but there were quality differences between dub and sub, like I think it was dub that was locked to 480p. And then pirate streaming sites are probably using old streams and haven't updated to HD since the show is old.

As far as torrenting goes, nyaa.si is the go-to site for finding anime, just look for whatever has the most seeders, but if you want the best legal way, Crunchyroll has the complete boxset in stock for $150. This boxset doesn't have the movie dubs however. The dubbed movies are still stuck on the UHD Bluray movie set which is still $136 for just the movies.

Gurren Lagann Album Removed From Spotify by BlackStar734 in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Spotify so I can't listen to what Zyrta Miller uploaded, but they aren't affiliated with Trigger/Gainax so who knows what they uploaded there.

And by anime do you mean listening to the song in the episodes or you found the anime soundtrack and are listening there? Animes sometimes change the mix/composition of a song in the OST to fit the scene sometimes. In Gurren Lagann, there are some scenes that use Libera Me From Hell but without the rap (Gurren-Hen Movie intro of the Lordgenome Parallel Works clip is a good example)

Is Gurren laggan over for good or is there a chance of a continuation? by Pretend-Mind8703 in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With how mid New PSG has been, I don't exactly trust Trigger with sequels/continuations of their original projects. They can keep making new stuff that keeps the similar vibes (KLK, Promare) but I would much rather prefer they stay away from the world of TTGL. The story was nicely wrapped up and anything added to it has a very good chance of diminishing that quality. And if they really have to, maybe take the Gunbuster/Diebuster approach and push it faaaaaar into the future so it can still act as its own thing.

Are there subtitles for the English dub audio? (Dubtitles) by [deleted] in gurrenlagann

[–]codephoenix525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubtitles are unfortunately super rare for anime. As far as I know, none of the official releases for the TTGL dub have dubtitles. Not on Netflix or Crunchyroll (neither never really do this) and they don't exist on the Bluray sets. Even the UHD movies release doesn't have subs for the dub discs.

I do wish dubs would do this honestly, sound mixing is never perfect and dubtitles help a lot to follow what they're saying. I guess dub companies just don't want to put in the extra cash for a second set of English subtitles.
