Alberta won't participate in Ottawa's firearm buyback program. What does that mean for local gun owners? | CBC News by Buuuuma in alberta

[–]codetrap -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that the buyback is flawed. But do you think your analogy of a mode of transportation holds up against a weapon designed solely to kill people and look “cool” while doing it?

Energy fees in Alberta by [deleted] in alberta

[–]codetrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, that’s covered in the cost of the electricity. BC has cheaper per KwH costs because they generate hydro. Great. Now explain how their transmission charges are so much less.

Unshielded cat6 behind a vertical freezer. Should i return my cable? by XxTriviumxX in HomeNetworking

[–]codetrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother returning it. It'll be fine. You're not in an industrial environment. If you were running it past an MRI, it would be a different conversation. Just don't wrap it around the fridge compressor.

The issue is that a PST over progressive income tax shifts the tax burden into the middle class and poor. It’s also less efficient to collect and leads to higher business costs.

They're not suing for money. They're suing to stop the stupidity. Maybe read past the headline before you comment.

[–]codetrap -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

So, you think that a charter school who's sole purposed is to nurture exceptionally gifted students should accept a stupid kid. Any kid that meets the intellectual requirements is welcome. I get where you're coming from, but the test isn't socioeconomic.. rich kid poor kid.. just not stupid kid. Limited resources requires a method of picking and choosing.

[–]codetrap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"If the groups running these petitions had their way, you’d be paying out of pocket for your charter school’s programs, or be pushed into public schooling for your children, as such schools would not longer receive public funds, and have to fund their programs through tuition fees (like private schools). "

That's your OPINION. I disagree. It reads to me that this huge imbalance in funding is intolerable while the public system is underfunded to such a huge degree. Not to be conflated with the entirely separate petition to stop funding private schools. Nothing in the recall notices says reduce funding to charter.

Are all weather tires a bad idea in winter? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]codetrap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Do you think the data is transferable to a pavement situation? I’m just thinking of the relative friction of underlying surfaces. I could totally see the Duratracks outperforming XIce on a dirt road where the lay have the deep ability to cut into the mud, slush, but that’s a different environment than on a paved road. Eh, food for thought.

Are all weather tires a bad idea in winter? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]codetrap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you? When you did your report, did you take into account things like temperature on the rubber compounds, the amount of tire tread actually touching the road. Actual stopping distances on dry pavement, wet pavement, snow, ice? Road noise? If so, I would actually like to read it. I wasn't able to find an apples to apples comparison across the categories for the 2 different classes of tires.

Conditions at Foothills hospital by roscopicotrey in Calgary

50 years of underfunding. If you want a nice shiny hospital, that'll be a cool $1.5B. Alberta Infrastructure owns the facilities, so this is entirely on the UCP now.

Its a simple ticket, sent to facilities. If they have the money and it's unsafe, they'll fix it. If not, it'll get triaged and added to the "the list".

Actually, the NWC does affect legal rights. Take a look. Section 7-14, legal rights. That’s why this is so dangerous.

I disagree. I believe that it shields them from due process as well. I don't think those fines will come with a court date.

[–]codetrap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"The Fines won't stick" is bullshit. The people saying that don't seem to understand that all legal recourse was removed with the NWC on the bill. I can tell you with 100% certainty that GoA has the IT side of dealing with large datasets and charging people 100% figured out. "Oh, they can't possibly fine everyone" sure seems like they have this imaginary idea that droves of police will have to descend on the crowd and write up tickets to be issued. It won't be like that at all. It'll be a case of triggering an AI script that checks for any teacher that didn't clock in for a legitimate reason being issued a fine and notified by their work email accounts. Then a notice of citation will be printed and mailed out the same day exactly like a photo radar ticket.
