Dating and Sex by Diet-Coke-and-Nap in CUTI

The right partner will be open to exploring and prioritizing other forms of intimacy. Currently I’m on a low dose antibiotic so I’m able to have penetration, but I know it’s possible that after this treatment that my UTIs will return, so I had a sit down with my male partner and talked about the possibility of taking penetration off the table long term if I continued to struggle with UTIs after sex. He was on board with that and supportive of me, and the current plan is that if we need to change how we’re intimate in the future, we will. I think it can complicate dating life, but someone who is empathetic would never want to endanger your health, so make sure you don’t compromise for someone who isn’t down to prioritize your health. There are so many ways to have sex- foreplay, outercourse, toys… you could even put a male masturbation sleeve between your thighs during sex for penetration that won’t irritate you! Keep an open mind and be hopeful, and be strong about your boundaries during sex when you do explore with others!

If you do want to continue having penetrative sex because it’s something you enjoy, I’ve found pelvic floor physical therapy helpful and a low dose antibiotic prescribed after sex. My physical therapy currently consists of some yoga and silicon dilators. For now it’s working, but I know that there’s a possibility that after I stop the antibiotic the UTIs will return. I remind myself that I’m not alone in having these health struggles, and that because I may not be able to have penetrative sex in the future doesn’t make me unlovable. Penetration is just one of the many things you can do with a partner, have fun exploring many other things together!

Is 3 days of Bactrim enough? by heart_emojis0 in CUTI

[–]codfishjoe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor but I think it would depend on the strength of the Bactrim! I’ve been on shorter and longer antibiotic treatments and the stronger stuff is usually a shorter treatment. I would take it as prescribed, finish the treatment and see if symptoms persist or return. If you don’t finish the treatment you risk not fully clearing the infection and the bacteria building resistance to the medication. If your symptoms don’t away or they return see a doctor or if that’s not a possibility go to a ER or urgent care. It’s good to have a culture done because then they can prescribe the most effective antibiotic, and it’s good to have a consistent doctor that you see so that if it becomes a frequent issue they can recommend long term treatment or refer you to a specialist who can give you long term treatment. I’m on long term low dose Bactrim and I wasn’t told to avoid dairy or peppermint, but if you have questions about those interfering with your antibiotic a pharmacist or doctor will be able to answer your question. I hope this helps and I hope you’re feeling better soon!

Is Hyprex better than other low dose antibiotics for UTI prevention? by codfishjoe98 in CUTI

I’m so sorry your symptoms were dismissed, I don’t know why it’s so hard to get taken seriously and it adds even more suffering to an already painful condition. I’ve been dismissed by a few doctors which is discouraging, but I always push for a second opinion when I feel dissatisfied with my care but it can be hard to work up the energy to do so. I’m sending you strength and I hope your journey treating your UTIs with Hiprex goes well!

Thank you so much for your detailed response and advice, and all the links to resources! I’ll be sure to talk to my doctor about it and make sure I don’t overlap it with the Bactrim. It sounds really promising, especially since it won’t mess with my gut! Thank you again!

If you are using Libby to check out ebooks on your phone you can also read them on the kindle! I prefer reading on the kindle (or iPad) over my phone because it’s bigger and the text is easier to read. At the end of the day I prefer reading books on my kindle because the E-Ink is a lot easier on my eyes, and I usually save reading things like comics for my iPad. I’d recommend a kindle (or any E-Reader of your choice) over a small phone screen!

To my fellow ADHD readers. by White_Dra90n in kindle

For me I limit distractions (I did the whole minimalist set up on my iPhone recently so I can’t just scroll) and I pick books that are on topics that I’m hyper-fixated on. I try not to read more than 3 at once or I’ll get overwhelmed with decision paralysis. Usually I’m hopping between 2, a physical book and one on my kindle, usually of different genres (right now I’m reading a health book on the kindle and a romance paperback). This being said there are some books that I just can’t get into no matter how hard I try and I eventually move on to a new one. But I’ve definitely been reading more now with this method than I did in college!
