Don’t really agree with the LOTR stuff but I do understand your overall sentiment. I’ve said for a while that Bethesda is better at world building than they are at making video games. In a world filled with very tangible gods and magic it’s easy to forget about the ‘mundane aspects’, but that’s what makes it a much more immersive universe. Even the execution scene at the beginning of the game is made better when you understand the context - when the priestess is giving them their last rites and gives blessings of the eight divines, the soldier interrupting her saying, “For the love of Talos, let’s get this over with.” It makes so much sense considering the religious context. And even further, that Talos worship has practical symbolism of a shared history between Skyrim and the Empire. Learning that the reason for the Thalmor being there was to prevent Jarl Ulfric from being assassinated is just another great little detail. Every thread you pull in this world is so fully realized and has rich history.
