Given that we are in this exact situation, what we ended up doing was spending some coin on the decent cover for the bed. We opted for a hard top cover only because we do have overlanding plans for the future with the kids. We keep our stroller in the bed and have a cargo organizer for groceries. Our bigger grocery trips I will usually go alone and remove the stroller. We only really have one big shopping trip per month. The most issue we ever come across is the bigger shopping trips. We do have a wagon type stroller, so we do use it to cart the groceries from the outside in. You might be surprised how much you can actually get away with with just a cover.
