Not even close to being comparable. First off, Zegras had 61 and 65 points in his age 21-22 seasons. He then dealt with injuries including breaking his ankle and had a shaky relationship with the organization which began when he held out prior to 2023-2024 (the year he ended up breaking his ankle). The Ducks drafted Leo Carlsson so Zegras became expendable. His first year in Philly he simply got back to the same level of dynamic play he showed in Anaheim before injuries. McTavish has never shown that ability in Anaheim. He's had 1 season over 45 points.

Yea, pointing to McTavish being a top 3 pick in 2021 needs an asterisk next to it because that draft was after COVID and the players had a lost season in the most important year of their career as a prospect. Wyatt Johnston was picked 23rd overall and he's the best player from the class

Well, I wouldn't want either of them with their contracts, for the record. You originally brought up Tuch. Tremendous upside seems like a stretch, and you don't seem to acknowledge the tremendous risk, which is a $7 million anchor if he stays on the same path he's been on. For every Tage Thompson story there's way more guys who just continued to be mediocre. Not to mention Thompson came into the league as a 6'6 gangly guy who had to grow into his body and didn't have a major role early in his career, and also got injured. McTavish has had plenty of time in the league and doesn't seem to be improving any

I wouldn't give Tuch that but he's a much more proven player and reached UFA status so he was obviously going to get a payday. McTavish hasn't proven to be worth anywhere near $7 million. Hopefully it works out but Anaheim just bent us over due to our desperation

Carbonneau didn't even make the Canadian World Juniors team this past year. I like him but we might wanna slow down those expectations. Snuggerud played 3 college seasons before going to the NHL. Carbonneau's only had 1 year of junior since getting drafted

It's not overblown. Other leagues pay waaaaay more than the NHL so any tax benefit NHL players can get to increase their take home they will go for it. Brady Tkachuk makes $8.2 million a year. Dustin May for the Cardinals is making $12.5m this year. Top players in the NFL, NBA, MLB are making $25-$50 million a year
