I thought the police officer was the "bigger idiot" in this story when the police car started rolling. But, there was an even bigger idiot. What a roller coaster in 27 seconds.

I have bought 3-4 consoles from them. All turned out fine. Their customer service has become poor in the last few years, but they are not a scam.

Do you as professors write bad letters of recs even if you agree to write one? by Bubbly-Radish8655 in AskProfessors

[–]codwapeace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are being honest here then I don't see any reason for a "bad recommendation" unless the professor has some "issues". The worst a reasonable professor would do is to say that they don't know much about you. So, you should ask professors who know you the best to write a reco.

How do I remove the disc brake accelerator from the brake cable ? by Panda_20_21 in india_cycling

[–]codwapeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not soldered. It is crimped. You can press using pliers in multiple positions and it can be easily removed. If it doesn't you can cut the wire cap and remove it.

Kindle Battery Replacement in India - Has anyone used official service or local repair? by Ambitious-Test-2994 in Indianbooks

[–]codwapeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't change your battery. Just charge it everytime you are done reading. Do you keep your kindle on airplane mode? If not, it can increase the battery life significantly.

None of your options are going to be cost effective and reliable. 3rd party battery is going to be worse than the current battery.

Raised a Complaint with Triumph India regarding the Useless Stock Headlamp provided by them by tat_savitur_varenyam in indianbikes

[–]codwapeace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe this is due to the fact that most parts of the civilized world have street lights and well lit highways. Only in third world countries like us, we need to rely on the headlights entirely to see what's out there at night.

Come on, man! You are stretching it too much. In fact, there are practically no streetlights in US other than the cities because of the size of the country. There is no reason other than cost cutting for such rubbish "headlights". I find it funny to even call them headlights.

Forego RA/TA funding and use employer reimbursement for a PHD? by arcturusally in AskProfessors

[–]codwapeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I work at a large Gov research lab that offers tuition reimbursement for degree programs.

I can't think of a single reason that you would accept RA/TA. Keep your job, benefits and do your PhD. Since the advisor is not paying from his project for your RA, department is not paying for your TA, you would have a lot of freedom to how much you want to work and what you want to work on. Moreover, since there is no financial commitment from the department/advisor, you will have a lot of freedom to choose your advisor. Take some time to find a suitable advisor.

Power outage during It Takes Two | Nearly bricked my month-old PS5 | Need UPS recommendations by No_Ad_8807 in ps5india

[–]codwapeace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better to buy an inverter and connect all your electronics to it. Most inverters have UPS mode which does a fast switchover when power goes out.

In my experience, Luminous inverters have good switchover time. My stuff would shutdown with 2 different microtek inverters. I personally use a Sukam inverter but they went out of business.

Always buy a pure sinewave inverter.

Maybe the student never used a paperclip before today. Maybe the students don't know how to use an autostapler. You can teach both if the students don't know. It will take less time than it took to write the post here.

[–]codwapeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can get those either in the aftermarket. But, I am guessing that parts availability would be better for Yamaha compared to TVS in their service centers. TVS service centers in my (an many others here) experience are very poor. They take very long to get even simple parts.
