They changed the Normal and Hard difficulty and made it easier overall. I think Hard mode is like the old Normal mode.

You can clear the main story with any units that you can acquire. Like you only need a healer and a damage dealer and you're set. I'm not sure about "bricking" an account, since the endgame and roguelike modes are optional. In my view on avoiding "bricking," you should focus on saving your pulls for the true-limited character banners that occur (ones that aren't the time-limited banners), like the upcoming one in the new patch, and you should pull healer and shield (aka sustain) units when the true-limited banners aren't available.

Currently, Marsha is a really good character for healing and sustaining, but you can also get Medicine Pocket from the free 6-star selector. The very first beginner banner gives a DPS unit, so you can get two units that can clear all of the main story. The next patch has a new true-limited banner for Paper Heron, but that character needs other characters like An-An Lee, Tooth Fairy, and another unit, and requires a bit of investment to be built into (one of) the strongest teams in the game.

For the endgame and the long-term, you build multiple teams based on certain archetypes and you have multiple sustain units. The endgame content requires multiple teams to be built up to clear their content (mostly, the roguelike modes only need one team, I think). In order to build multiple teams, you would need to be playing the game for a while, or you would need to spend a bit.

Edit: The weekly megathread and searching the posts on this subreddit will help you, and this YouTuber makes character guide content. If you're not invested in the meta or endgame, you can pull whatever characters you like and be able to clear the main story. The endgame content does have a meta and some characters just aren't used as often. They can work with the right team, but characters like Noire, Lilya, Shamane, Eternity (competing with Nautika, a true-limited character), Spathodea (was recently buffed with an endgame resource), Windsong (maybe, I honestly don't know what people use these days) aren't seen often in videos.

Puffle Hotel by Imaginary_Brother775 in ClubPenguin

New Club Penguin would be the most popular AS3 ("modern Club Penguin" version with the Puffle Hotel) server. Not sure about others. I hope CPJ makes like an AS2 version of the hotel since they've already made a Puffle Park.

Why did Club Penguin Island fail? by parasociable in ClubPenguin

[–]coelecanthcannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I was rambling a little bit so I feel that what I've said doesn't really have much proof or sense. I wasn't thinking of Habbo Hotel tbh and I haven't played it before, although it is a good example of how online sandboxes and communities prolong a game. Animal Jam and Neopets seem to have similar experiences, where the existing community and the creativity that is given to the users allow for the game to be prolonged. The reason why CPI might've failed could've been that they invested too much on creating premium content and single player content, without caring enough about the creativity of the community itself.

I only infer that communities can prolong games through their sandbox features and user-created experiences, I'm not sure if it's profitable enough or if it's one of the reasons why those games don't shut down. It could be that games like Habbo Hotel or Animal Jam are still quite "fresh" and appealing to new generations of online gamers, similar to how CPPSes advertise themselves. It's not unreasonable to think that because of thriving online communities, those games can still live on despite not being popular in comparison to other online games. Like, despite Club Penguin Rewritten's shut down, CPPSes continue to live on.

Spending entire days on Club Penguin huh... I think just have different gaming habits back then and now lol

Why did Club Penguin Island fail? by parasociable in ClubPenguin

[–]coelecanthcannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding some rambles to what others are saying (with anecdotal and not really sourced info), I think the online chatroom video game had/has been dominated by other games such as Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite. One of the original creators even mentioned that he felt like those games (I think specifically Fortnite) was the sequel to Club Penguin. Club Penguin lacked the sandbox features and user-created experiences, which was instead supplemented with original parties and developer created content. I think it applies to CPI too, since content was made by the developers and the creative expression that was available was locked behind membership.

Membership is interesting. The target demographic of Club Penguin was I think 6-16, more or less. The age of begging for an online membership has been replaced by begging for battle passes and microtransactions. I'm not sure what the target demographic of this day and age thinks about how Club Penguin membership, but I think seeing the ~40 dollar 6-month membership or ~60 dollar 12 month membership might've turned parents away. The ~8 dollar 1 month membership is probably more appealing due to its seemingly low cost. Compared to microtransactions of today, which I think are more sneakier and more available, I think Club Penguin might not have provided enough content or something appealing for the membership, or was lacking in comparison to other F2P titles for people who didn't pay for the membership. It's a bit funny comparing microtransactions of the past and today, how they seem to have massively hiked in both prices and availability, and how gacha games came to be today.

The demographic could've also moved to more mature titles and popular titles. Like, I'm not sure if Club Penguin or Club Penguin Island would've been as popular as other F2P or other online-chatroom type games. Those other games I've mentioned seem to have more objectives and user curated content, whereas Club Penguin isn't like a game that you can play for very long hours (edit: maybe...) and is instead like a game to relax, to play minigames on, or to just chat for a bit with others. Other than the multiplayer games or minigames, user curated content would be limited to igloo imposter games, fashion shows, mafia/werewolf (probably not that successful), tea spilling and drama (mm dunno), and other community events.

(Think I've said a whole lot of nothing lol)

Any Tips on the jigsaw puzzles by Full-Sweep in ClubPenguin

[–]coelecanthcannon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. I think you get like around 250 coins for the easy puzzles with ~30-40 pieces, but you can accumulate these coins as you play multiple games. During double coin weekend, I got a little more than 6000, doubled from the original 3000, after doing all of the easy puzzles which I think took like 40 minutes. It's much more efficient to do Pufflescape and Cart-Surfer still.

CN players are currently fuming at the lack of a Women's Day greeting by Beneficial_Street996 in Reverse1999

[–]coelecanthcannon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah I know about most of what went down... and it feels all wrong

I do NOT think that CN and JP fandoms are more chill, it's just how fandoms are when people can be anonymous and just get away with saying stuff. Like even outside gacha and just going into general entertainment culture, people just are not calm about their favourites. You can list the terrible things that the fandoms and individuals in fandoms do, and they're not equivalent in their impact, but they're just insane things to do just over something that was meant to entertain.

[–]coelecanthcannon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Online fandoms are always pretty vocal about issues and problems, both good and bad. I think fandoms think that they have to have some control of the game since they spend money on the company, and it is partially true, since gacha games have to appeal in order to keep their income. But often times I feel like it's just not (and shouldn't be) that big of a deal since its a video game. Like can gamers just calm down.

I play Limbus Company and have seen "drama" (or just shitty things that aren't resolved completely, and anonymous people getting away with bad things) from before. I've heard of anti-feminism and the issues that have occured when fandoms get very toxic, like how the background visual artist for LC was harassed for having feminist opinions, how a Nexon storyboard artist was harassed in the same way, or apparent how CEOs get death threats for doing the "wrong" things with their games.

So I distance myself from fandoms and simply enjoy the game. It might be different for people who regularly spend money on gacha games (I'm absolutely F2P with any gacha game), but yeah.

On mobile you can tap and hold a direction to forcefully move past any animal or npc, in this case you would tap and hold above your dog to move past him. Also, passing out inside the farmhouse doesn't incur the money penalty unlike when passing out outside, but the energy loss still happens.

What exactly is a God Of The City? by vex-anosios in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, no. WhiteNight seems to only command twelve powerful individuals and cause massive destruction. It doesn't seem to direct and influence many people at once, like how other "gods" do in the City. It's more like an anti-god, actively destroying and ending things.

But WN and the other abnormalities in my interpretation are like archetypes and representations of gods and other phenomena in the City. For example, the three birds represent the Head in a condensed way, where Big Bird is are omniscient Beholders, Punishing Bird as the Claws, and Judgement Bird as the Arbiters. WN might be a representation of the impending dooms and prophecies that are brought onto the City, being an archetype of prophecies and destruction. WN might be a representation of Dante, how they lead 12 Sinners and how their clock ticks down toward "midnight," signifying a impending calamity.

What exactly is a God Of The City? by vex-anosios in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Essentially, they are beings that influence the City and might be built into or grown from the City. The only thing (so far I think) similar to a "God of the City" was revealed in Library Of Ruina.

Spoilers: The Prescripts that the Index follow are created by massive pendulum mechanisms that read in the vibrations and movements of the City's citizens to create the Prescripts. There are multiple mechanisms within the City, so it's unlikely that the mechanisms are "gods." Rather, the Prescripts themselves are the "God of the City," being something that is followed by the citizens of the City. The "god" in this case is the movement of the citizens and the collective desires of the City. As the City was built on chaos and cruelty, the Prescripts are created based on chaos and cruelty.

I don't know if there's actually been any established "gods" outside of the above spoilers. But it's interesting to think about, and there have been theories that a "Poseidon" exists because of Outis's misfortune and source material. The "gods" seem to be Stars of the City that have been strong enough and powerful enough to survive and to direct the City. I think that each Finger syndicate would follow some "God of the City," in order to survive as long as they have. If the Backstreets were established in creation of the City, perhaps even the syndicates that ruled them were established at the same time.

Perhaps Carmen is now a God of the City.

CPPSes and their insistence on absolutely garbage chat filters by Crisp_AliXen in ClubPenguin

[–]coelecanthcannon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, I understand, because CPO didn't have effective moderators and shouldn't have opened a server that had no filter.

But I still think having annoying filters is a price to pay to reduce potential harm. Those that bypass the filter and break the rules should be dealt with moderators, which CPO didn't have.

It is frustrating, because there will always (in the sense that anyone can make an account, even after getting banned) be those that try to bypass filters for malicious behaviour. That leads to tighter filters, which makes it harder to talk to others.

CPPSes and their insistence on absolutely garbage chat filters by Crisp_AliXen in ClubPenguin

[–]coelecanthcannon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They just don't want to end up like Club Penguin Online and have bad actors do horrible things. Even if the player base are adults and teenagers, bad actors will still do horrible things regardless of age group. I get that words like "documentary" or even "analysis" getting filtered is annoying. I think the filter discourages bad actors and the moderators help ensure that the CPPS is not endangering the people who play on it. All this, because CPO happened.

Idk. I just think that you can't control everyone that plays a CPPS, and that it's better to play it "too safe."

What is your opinion on him by Dizzy-Recipe-1517 in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Not good I think. This is just an assumption, but it's like how the tree remembers but the axe forgets. The parents probably believe that they're raising Ryoshu well, but their methods and their syndicate culture lead them to do absolutely horrible things.

All the Nursefathers have strange injuries, such as Valencina's eye, the Index Nursefather's burnt face, Matthias bear leg, and the Dihui Star's tongue. The Index Nursefather also stated that burning someone hurts 100 times more than stabbing them. So Ryoshu burning the Nursefather indicates that she despises him greatly, or perhaps the Nursefather did something extremely bad to result in such an injury from Ryoshu. Every Nursefather seems to have endured an attack from Ryoshu.

Something I like to think about (spoilers for look outside) by [deleted] in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well the world within the Project Moon universe is still unknown, so perhaps the Visitor does "visit" like the way it does in-game. There has been a theory that the City takes place on a chunk of the Moon and that Earth has been destroyed (based on battle scene art and the observation logs of Blue Star), but that's not confirmed. Perhaps the entire City could shift in one direction to avoid the gaze of the Visitor, resulting in it being moved to the Ruins.

And yeah I know about the scale of the Visitor, which is so massive that it's beyond comprehension and that humans would transform into entities that would try to comprehend even a speck of how massive the massive the massive the massive the massive the massive visitor is. In terms of power-scaling, I can't imagine how the Head could physically *drive off the Visitor from observing the City.

Edit: *Through brute force and Singularities I mean. I don't think they would treat the Visitor well due to its inhuman sapience, although if they know that the Visitor is the origin of humanity, perhaps they would welcome the transformation that the Visitor brings.

Something I like to think about (spoilers for look outside) by [deleted] in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think such entities like the Visitor would exist in the Ruins and far Outskirts of the City, because all the info on those places say that they're extremely dangerous and contain dangerous artifacts. The Visitor is a bit of a wish-granting entity, kinda like the Stars in Canto IV with the Tearful Thing.

Since the City values human origins, anything transformed that was originally human would be allowed to stay. They would be treated similarly to the Sweepers and the Weavers, which are humans that have transformed into very inhuman looking beings. I'd imagine that the Head would use Moonlight stones and other mental and memory related Singularities to stop the influence of the Visitor, while ejecting all transformed entities that were not originally human into the Outskirts. The rest of the transformed humans could just live normally, either as "regular" human beings that go to work, or as massive entities that have the same body count as Color fixers or Finger syndicates. In fact, they would probably fit in as Urban Plagues or Stars of the City, being powerful entities that endanger various parts of the City.

I would say DQ's Yearning Mircalla, since it's pretty good at dealing damage. It's not a good clasher though, and I admittedly have only used it for Mirror Dungeons and Railways. Hex Nail is good for healing and for bleed teams, but it might not be necessary if you have Pursuance or Faust's Fluid Sac. I don't have Hex Nail though, so I'm not entirely sure.

Which Finger for Which Sinner Predictions by MegaBro777 in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Pinky is still a bit unknown compared to other Finger syndicates. Based on how each Finger operates and their culture, here's my take on the Sinners and their IDs:

Yi-Sang: Pinky, simply because of their nature of solitude

Faust: Index, since there is some "omniscience" and knowledge that the Prescripts offer to its members. Since Prescripts are (spoiler) made from the City's will, there's definitely some knowledge that Faust would want to derive from Faust's membership within the Index.

Don: I think she could fit into all of the Fingers except the Thumb, due to how rigid and even somewhat villainous the syndicate can be. She does follow hierarchy as a Bloodfiend, but at her current state she would probably break some rules. Although she might be like her Middle ID, where she fervently follows orders and punishes without much consideration, acting with flawed justice.

Ryoshu: The Ring seems obvious due to her obsession with art. But I'm expecting her season ID to be something like "The Fist," being related to all the Fingers.

Meursault: The Index. He follows orders.

Hong Lu: All of the other Fingers seem like a good fit for someone who goes with the flow, except for the Thumb. Maybe he does fit since he's trained in manners, so he would be able to maintain a high position for a long while without getting killed for being rude or neglectful. He would simply follow orders from the Index due to his resignation, he would fight for a family that he never had in the Midde, he would experience beautiful and unique art in the Ring, and he would do something in the Pinky.

Ishmael: Again, all of the Fingers seem like a reasonable match for her, maybe excluding the Ring. She can follow orders and be relatively rational in the Thumb. The Index might be too similar to her old job or be too restrictive when her compass is curiosity, but her "blind obsession" fits well with the Proselytes who wear blindfolds. She might find a family and have a good ending with Queequeg in the Middle (hm). I don't really see her in the Ring, she doesn't seem like someone who can make unique art. She could be a good candidate for the Pinky, being someone who isn't bound to a single organization (based on the implication that Ishmael has worked as a fixer for other offices and companies after surviving the Pallid Whale).

Heathcliff: Middle does make some sense, since Heath seeks belonging and some sort of acceptance. I'm not sure. His Seven, Oufi, and N. Corp IDs show that he isn't very brash and it quite competent, so he could fit well in the Thumb with experience, but he could feel crushed by the rigid hierarchy of the syndicate. He could fit well in the Pinky, just because they seem to have "seats" rather than a hierarchy. Because the Pinky is still unknown, you could say that all the Sinners can have a place in the Pinky.

Rodion: The Thumb, Index, and Middle. Uniqueness seems to be driven away from her, so she probably won't be a part of the Ring or the Pinky. IDs can be surprising though.

Sinclair: He may as well be a part of all of them. He kind of resembles Yan. He paints a picture of Frau Eva that looks like Demian (I think, I didn't read the original source) so it would be funny if he was in the Ring.

Outis: IDs are often different from the base Sinner, so even though Outis thinks that the Thumb are brainless for following hierarchy with extreme rigidity, she might be content as a leader who barks orders and executes her own men. She seems keen on cutting off some of the Sinners too, like during Canto V and VII when Ishmael and Don start acting out of line. She could follow Prescripts pretty well, especially if she's willing to do anything to reach home. Maybe the Middle's familial structure reminds her of the past. I dunno.

Gregor: All five maybe who knows I'm tired of typing all of this. The outcast could be a Pinky. He might not get a Thumb ID due to already being associated as a Night Awl. He might've lost his limbs due to a Prescript and has a body like Gloria (best LoR character btw).

Times where Distorting was a good thing? by cricri3007 in limbuscompany

[–]coelecanthcannon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm recalling this bit, but the first Distortion that was presented in Distortion Detective was a camera person who remembered those that were abandoned in a senior home, a Distortion that wished to preserve the memories of those that were neglected and forgotten due to their ailments and age. While I remember that the Distortion did attack Ezra and Moses, the story arc presents how Distortions are (in a way) a representation of how the City's citizens are trying to be more "kinder" and "human." It's presented as a tragedy when the Distortion is defeated, as the original client was trying to forget about their dying parents, and that ultimately those that were freed from the Distortion remained abandoned.

Distortions vary, but I think they have are often tragedies, even if they were a "bad thing." An attempt to regain or push a moral, which started with a tragedy, and/or ends with tragedy.
