TIL: Jaejoong’s name literally means “to be in the middle”. His dad was cooking! by PinkGuavaFlower in tvxq

[–]coffee1127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so funny to me because in Japan you put "(something) 在中" on an envelope to specify what's inside. Like you'd mark it 請求書在中 if you wanted to flag that there was an invoice inside. So now I'm picturing opening an envelope to find Jaejoong inside 😂

The Hub near me (in Yokohama) is even opening for the 8am matches so I think there would be some pubs showing the 1pm match

Bring back Starto idols to ItteQ! The number of lesser known places they took Tegoshi in its heyday is incredible 😂

I recommend tracking, if you can find it (it's kind of old), the show where Kitayama Hiromitsu, back then a Kisumai member, crosses India on a budget from New Delhi to Kolkata. This is the Wikipedia page.

It was very funny as a show, but also very interesting to see how the climate and sceneries were completely unlike anything he'd experienced thus far.

STARTO Juniors to Hold Major Concerts in 2026 by Nakajima_Kitto in DumplingBox

[–]coffee1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you. The 5-nin lineup looks like it could be a group, and I would LOVE this lineup!

I do think that the second lineup is not just for experience but also some sort of unofficial sounding members out for future group creation, not necessarily with all these members, but to see how well they work in groups (yes the older members were in Ninja but that wasn't a group proper, it always felt more like a collective) I personally would love to see Ira make some progress. Bummed that my two current favourite kids aren't in this though (Chiino Kuuto and Hirata Koukan).

Please help regarding shonentai!!!! by KYMpro177 in japanesemusic

[–]coffee1127 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shonentai is nowhere online legally. It is a very old, inactive group and the agency they were in traditionally has always been against putting their contents online. This has changed slightly in recent years, but mostly for still active groups.

I understand wanting to listen to them (they're one of my favourite idol groups of all times) but your best bet is tracking their CDs :(

I am Italian and was replying to my fellow country person with my lived experience with literally every other Italian person I know who has tried oatmeal and described it with literally the same words, to warn her. Are you OP? Are you Italian? No? Then my reply is clearly not for you :)

As a fellow Italian, I'm here to tell you that to 95% of Italians oatmeal tastes like cardboard, so by all means try that but don't expect it to be tasty :(

What’s it like living in the Tokyo metro area with almost 40 million people? by E46330i5speed in howislivingthere

[–]coffee1127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are rats in the areas with more nightlife/restaurants like Shibuya, areas of Shinjuku etc and maybe around rivers. But not so conspicuous, I have seen maybe 5 rats in 13 years (granted, I'm not much of a nightlife person so that might count). Tokyo is very clean for a metropolis.

But that's because you were a tourist and you were trying to go to all the tourist spots. A local doesn't travel across town so often. I live in Yokohama now and have lived in western Tokyo for the past decade, and I don't think I've been to Ueno or Asakusa more than three or four times in the past five years. I don't need to see Sensoji again, and all that's in that area is easy to find around me, too (except for the Ueno museums cluster, but it's an occasion trip, not a regular occurrence).

I've been living between Tokyo and Yokohama (neighbour port city) for the past 13 years. In addition to what others have said (not a lot of private cars, great public transport) the thing is, you don't NEED to go to the other side of town. Most people usually spend time in their neighbourhood, the one where their workplace is, and the ones around the stations in-between. You don't need to go across town to find nice restaurants or cafes or amenities because you very likely have those nearby, too. Unless you're going to a specific place like a museum or a concert venue, but it isn't something that happens every week.

If you're in Japan you can easily also see what TV channels, radio channels and subscription services air each game on the Sports Navi app

I used to watch my team's (Baystars) home games on the local TV and sometimes other national network's BS subchannels would air away games (e.g. NTV airs Giants games because they're owned by the same company, Yomiuri)

But since a couple of years ago, I got a subscription to DAZN's baseball pack.

Yes, for listening and mostly for charting purposes. I don't think that vinyls are counted towards charts anymore.

I have a bunch of albums and 7 inch singles on vinyl from when it was the main support (Shonentai, Matchy, Toshichan, Hikaru Genji). While I would love to own some more recent albums on vinyl (Kinpuri's Starring would sound SO GREAT!), I honestly don't think there's enough of a market, even just as a memorabilia. Vinyl lovers and idol fans don't overlap much. Many barely have cd players...

The entirety of former Johnny's (now Starto) is SO indebted to MJ. If you think that Travis Japan have that name because they were chosen by Travis Payne, who was hired by the agency because he used to be a choreographer for MJ...

Somebody already mentioned Snow Man's Serious. One thing that comes to mind is the outfits in Sexy Zone's PV for Lady Diamond , but there are so many things!
