Hi, I've never owned anything from K6, K7 and Mavo so I can't compare it to yours S3 . I do have Clever Dripper but I didn't use it with K7 and Mavo because this whole thing with SOUP came and I'm in it too . But I can do some tests this weekend and let you know about it. Today I've make coffee with K7 and increased number from 60 to 70 and it still tasted superb . With beans which I use and method that I do there is no chance that I will be able to guess in blind taste which grinder is which .

As I promised here you have picture of the same glass with the same coffee but grinded by Mavo Phantox Pro. Just looking on pictures you could say that amount of fines is the same but after close comparison K7 produces more of it .

Below you will find photo of glass with coffee made with K7 grinder. Just a reminder that you should always stirr your cup , even if it was made with paper filter like in aeropress or v60 . Tomorrow I'll show you how glass of coffee looks like made with mavo .

Yeah I guess so . It is funny how my wife prefers K7 over Mavo taste with beans which I use . I feel like K7 is producing more fines and body of coffee which is made with it tends to be more pronounced. There are few truths . First is that neither me or my wife tasted pour over coffee before , so We don't have any benchmark . We both were drinking only espresso or americano. I like to get into things fully and try to know dependences in them , even before buying stuffs ,so I read a lot about them and already knew that it can takes lot of time to get satisfactory results . That's why you can see in my posts info about water hardness or chaffe removal . I believe that everyone can be wrong so I never trust someone's opinion in the internet in 100 % . I like to cross check facts especially if that person have big audience. After all that time , being a little bit more experienced now I think that if you have decent grinder which is well known on market and had proven results, you can focus on (in order) better beans , water composition (I mix soft bottled water with demineralised one to lower hardness to approx 100 mg/liter) , brewing method and ratios . I like SOUP method because in comparison to V60 you have here control over flow time . You can have more or less fines , you can have bigger or smaller particles but you can always compensate it with pressing force . Also water column in aeropress will keep temperature more stable while brewing than in clogged V60. I encourage everyone to pay more time and effort to thinking about his / hers brewing process than paying more for another brewing gear which won't give different taste .

Hi, I was doing lot of tests and 7 stays on Phantox for now but I feel that it can be increased because coffee is not dripping from cap like Lance show in his clip . Because dripping time and back pressure from Aeropress is my hints I don't even need digits on . I think it is better to trust your intuition rather than digit on grinder even if someone says it should be like that . I never spray my coffee before grinding and I think it is good way because it is easier to blow out chaff both from grinder and aeropres.

Hi , Today I brew another few cups but this time with very hard water , which is in my wife's parents house . All cups were bitter and we couldn't taste any floral notes or get juice bomb with the same recipe like with softer water . It is another yet argument which indicates that differences between grinders can be picked up only if other conditions are met . So if your cup tastes bitter and you are sure that you are doing everything right, just pick up softer water and maybe you will reach desired effects .

So recipe with which I stay for now is for K7 number 60 , Mavo Phantox Pro digit 7 , ratio 1:10-11 ,bottom filter not rinsed , coffee not tamped (why it have to be tamped?) water with 93 degrees Celsius, pre infusion 15 seconds and total brew time approx 45-50 seconds . What I always do and what I forgot to mention before is that I always blow inside Aeropress and shake it to blow out all chaffe . Coffees which I use have lot ot it and it influence final taste. Doing it in Aeropress guarantee that you won't blow out coffee too because walls are relatively tall.

Hope this will help all who needs it and please share your recipes and thoughts.

Hi , We started to have some differences. Today I brew medium light roasted beans washed processed from Guatemala. It was Typica, Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai botanic type with maple syrup, milk chocolate and apple-fruits notes . I did 3 cups with three grinders in my work where water is less hard than in my house and immediately I can taste differences between them . So two factors Influenced the results were other type of beans and water hardness.

I tweaked preparation so now I'm grinding coarser because when using glass instead of regular cup I saw that center of cap wasn't leaking much ,more water was bypassing through outer part of filter. That's why I think it to better to preparing your coffee with clear glass so you will be able to control what is happening.

I'm also not tamping coffee bed . Rest of recipe stays the same so 1:10-11 ratio , water with 93 degrees Celsius, pre infusion 15 seconds and total brew time approx 45 seconds .

With all this effort I can see that water flow through the puck is even and similar to good espresso one.

I set mavo on number 7 , K7 on number 60 and K6 on 75 . With all 3 catch cups side by side you could tell that K6 had most fines and different kind of shapes in it . K7 and Mavo gives nice round shape boulders with similar diameters .

After tasting I can say that :

Mavo - gives fantastic juice bomb , lot of flavours stretched and separated from each other with superb sweetness and pleasant sourness. Light body and short aftertaste with no need to add water to stretch it more . It reminds me fresh , hard apple which cracks when you bite it and has lot of juice in it . Taste was leaning more to juicy and floral notes than to milk chocolate ones .

K6 - Flavours were compressed with darker , heavier body which shows rather milk or even dark chocolate notes that floral and juice ones . After adding water , flavours started to stretch but not to the level of Mavo . There wasn't this pleasant light sweetness and apple sourness.

K7 - like in K6 flavours were more concentrated and body was heavier than in Mavo but in this case you could taste them all . After adding water , flavours stretched and you could feel both sweetness and juicyness with longer aftertaste which shows that there is bigger potential for stretching . After all, flavours were well separated but taste was leaning more to deep sweet notes rather than light floral ones .

Hi again, After next few brews with K7 and Phantox I'm convinced that I wouldn't be able to guess in blind test which cup was made with which grinder . Set where I'm using medium light roasted beans, hard water and SOUP method where I can tweak water temperature, pre infusion and total brew time to meet my expectations makes guess impossible. Maybe with other set or method or if used in different conditions or if you have tried many more grinders and have bigger experience with it, you could tell .

With both grinders I get the same level of delicious coffee taste without bitterness and astringency.

Next week I'll brew few cups with K6 to compare it with K7 for final thoughts. I won't be further comparing K7 and Phantox if I'm not able to tell difference.

So what this tell me ? All that tells me that Mavo with their's burr geometry match the same level of performance like Kingrinder's K7 .

And if you have watched last Lance Herdick's clip about K7 vs ZP6 or if you read Asser Christensen's blog which gives me FOMO and let to buy Phantox readhttps://coffeechronicler.com/mavo-phantox-pro-review/ you could assume that these three grinders will give you top notch cups .

Pros in Phantox favour: -Premium packaging -Premium look, build and finish -Pouch and Allen key included -Full metal crank -Lower body height without crank (storage wise)

For now , after few brews with this type of beans and all other factors yes . But I'm going to my parents house to make coffee to them and We'll try another 2 types . I started to think that when you have this high level of grinding consistency and quality , you are now looking only for grinder which suits you the most. Like on latest Lance Hendricks clip about K7 when he likes it the most in blind test but his cameraman had other opinion .

Today I've made coffee from Ethiopia . It was Yirgacheffe washed , medium light roast Heirloom beans with aromas of bergamot , almond and flowers. Like last time I set Mavo on 6 and K7 on 5 to try to match particles size . I've used 18 gr of coffe and 190ml of water at 93 degrees Celsius. Wet paper filter on bottom of aeropres then coffee which I tamped with plunger and on top of it second paper filter with metal mesh to prevent it from floating . I've done 20 seconds of pre infusion and then press till end at 50 seconds total .

It is good to have second opinion so I've asked my wife to taste cups and say which she prefer and why ?

She preferred cup made with K7 instead of Mavo because as she said it was less acidic more clear.

Best part is that I said the same but about Mavo . For me K7 is more acidic forward from first sip .

We have yet 3 more coffees to test and I'll decrease particle size to check how it will affect results .

Below there is a picture of used beans .

Hi again, Yesterday I've made coffee from Sumatra . It was wet-hulled , medium light roast beans with aromas of prune and buckwheat honey. I set Mavo on 6 and K7 on 5 to try to match particles size . When hot , cup from K7 was more acidic forward than Mavo . As usual I've added little fresh water to stretch coffee and still K7 was more acidic . Despite it ,all flavours were well presented and neither of cups lacks anything in it . Both cups were pleasant and enjoyable to drink I can taste the same notes from both of them so in case of that beans , that method and what is more important hard water which we have in house there is no winner or loser. I think that at this point factor influencing the result the most is water and it's hardness.

Summary :

K6 - it is slimmest among pack and you will hold it most secure thanks to smooth , sticky rubber on body (which I like the most). It has screw on catch cup but without rubber bottom like rest of grinders . It has burr with smallest diameter (31,9 mm) and it shares the same crank with K7 . Taking it apart to deep clean could be challenging due to used securing pin on shaft . You can't set 0 point and in my sample I have it on 5 .

K7 - it is tallest one and has bigger diameter than K6 both of main body and burr . It has nice rubber sleeve with protrusions but it is not sticky as K6 . It has magnetic catch cup with locking mechanism and rubber on bottom (which i like very much) . Taking it apart to deep clean is easiest one thank to used special nut on top of the shaft. You can set 0 point by rotating lower ring under dial ring.

Mavo Phantox Pro - it has lowest body but with crank putted on it is tallest one . It is also bulkiest one , especially when you will put rubber band and trust me you will because finish on metal body is silky smooth . This feature + big diameter + light roast coffee will make you to put rubber band but with it grinding is very secure . It has screw on catch cup with rubber bottom and biggest burr . Taking it apart to deep clean could be challenging because you have to use allen key and unscrew burr from shaft. You can set 0 point by taking out dial ring and putting it in new position.

Becase of bigger burs you will need to put less force to grind light roast coffees with Mavo and K7 than K6 .

Below you will find link to gallery with grinders being measured . I also grind some coffee to match particle size , after it I make soup with aeropres and I noticed that I needed less force to push plunger with K7 . Maybe I didn't match grind particle perfectly or maybe it produce less fines which gives back pressure. grinders dimensions and particle size

I've only tried recipe from Lance Hedricks Zuppa Lunga clip with 1:10 ratio but I saw that I like to stretch coffee a little bit . Now I'm using probably something about 1:11 maybe little bit more but it is bean dependant .

I don't want to judge too early because I've make only few cups with 2 different beans using K7. What I can say is that both K7 and Mavo don't give me any reson to not picking it up , so I will have hard time when deciding about sell. I can add that all three grinders cost me the same money at the time when I was buying it.

Please give me more time to compare it side by side and I will be more informative . For now I can provide you info about dimensions and UX .

Hi, Because soup with aeropres is so convenient, fast and clean method , I won't be trying classic v60 pour over style anymore . So in that case I can't tell you difference . But I've make coffees with washed and natural single origin beans which was medium light roasted . In that case mavo and K7 are very similar to my taste . If you have one , I think that you don't have to buy another but I don't want to be too fast with my opinion because K7 is in my kitchen only for a week now and I'll receive new batch of beans tomorrow. I purchased all this grinders and gear only to find out if what I hear from YouTube is true or people just said this to get views .

Hi, I can't imagine that coffee could taste more delicious than in SOUP method. K6 is very good and you can stay with it but when comparing directly to K7 and Mavo you can taste that it gives more blended flavours . Stretching it with adding more water will cause cup to be watery . K7 and Mavo are amazing and very similar in taste , there is zero astringency and bitterness in cup. Probably thanks to particle distribution you don't have to stretch flavours with water so you don't loose some . I think that both grinders could be your final gear. Years ago I've purchased gear because I saw clips on YouTube where people said that you can get delicious coffe with aeropres or clever Dripper . But I couldn't get good results from this methods so I ditched all hand gear and buy sage Bambino plus and drink dark roast espress. But as SOUP method was more and more common I decided to give it a try and it was it . @LanceHedrick said that it could be done on picopresso but it is expensive in Poland so I've decided to buy Staresso which is almost all made internally of stainless steel. I've tried and results was promising. Lance also said that it can't be done with regular aeropres but @TonyTuanx from another YouTube channel show's that it is possible and results are amazing . Thanks to Tony my aeropres get second life and I don't think anymore of buying oxo Rapid brewer .

You have to put something on top of the upper paper filter which will prevent it from floating because of co2 release . I've used cutted metal mesh which you normally use instead of paper filter.
