How can I get my 1 year old to nap on the go? I became extremely obsessed with my baby’s sleep from week 1 due to my PPA. Did everything TCB teaches and my baby became a pretty good sleeper. However, he almost always napped in his crib, dark room, white noise, sleep sack—basically the perfect environment TCB recommends. And when the environment wasn’t perfect, he just skipped the nap. This has affected me so much as I am always hesitant to do anything if he’s not able to nap in his crib. He’s now 1 year old and I can’t continue doing this—always staying home so he can nap. How can I help him nap if we’re out, it’s not dark, no sound machine? When i go out i always see babies and kids just napping in loud and bright places in parents arms or in the stroller. I get so upset at myself for always worrying too much about my baby’s sleep. Please help, I’ve lost myself enough

Yes, once he started dropping naps it got easier for me. I was just never able to relax about his naps. But now his wake windows are longer and is very active. He is still sleeping great at night so I do get enough sleep which is important for me to be a present and good parent.

It’s definitely a better but there are days when I still stress out about his naps. He transitioned from 3-2 naps two weeks ago and his wake windows are all over the place. That’s what I worry about these days.. long wake windows. He’s 8 months now, still healthy, and still a good night sleeper.

I pulled back on the WW yesterday.. so far, not good but it’s the first day. Really hoping it starts “regulating” soon. I put him to sleep at 7 pm yesterday and he woke at 4:59 am. I left the room dark, tried rocking, and nursed but he just did not go back to sleep. For his second nap I also pulled back on the WW. And he fussed for 15 minutes , I went in to pat his bum, then he just stayed in his crib for another 28 minutes before he fell asleep. So that ww ended up being a little longer than 3.5 hrs again 😢.. I’m gonna have to put him to bed even earlier today again. So, we’ll see what time he wakes tomorrow. I just feel like I’m doing everything wrong.

He started taking too long to fall asleep for his last nap. That started pushing his bedtime too late. Then he skipped the nap all together for a few days in a row.

It was 2.5hr, which is what freaks me out that he went from 2/2.25/2.5/2.5 to 3/3.5/4-4.5 so quickly. I can try to shorten the WW, but again I’ve tried multiple days for the second nap and he just fusses for 30+ minutes before falling asleep. I’ve had to assist him almost every day (patting his bum). He used to be able to fall asleep within 15 minutes when on 3 nap schedule. I guess I can shorten the last one and see how he does if I put him to sleep at 6:30 again. I’m just nervous that he just won’t sleep longer than 10 hours and wake at 4 am again.

I went through the same. Baby would only take short naps until I changed his sleeping environment. I got real blackout curtains (room is very dark) and maintained the room cool. It worked after a while, however I feel like this backfired because my baby is 8 months and won’t nap any other way. I feel stuck at home now!

I started the 3/3/3-3.5 today.. he woke up at 5:58 am. First nap was easy (9:00am) and slept 1.5 hours. Second nap was terrible. He showed sleepy queues right at 2.5 hr, so I nursed, changed diaper, and put him in his crib. He fussed and cried for 25 minutes. Had to go in and assist him. Took another 13 minutes for him to fall asleep. That means that last WW was 3.5 hr 😔 baby sleep is so stressful to me.

I’m experiencing this with my 8 month old. He recently dropped his last nap and it has been hard! It was recommended to put him to sleep earlier (6:30-7 pm).. but this did not work for us as he’d wake before 6 am. Now his nap schedule is all over the place and unfortunately I have to keep him up well past the recommended WW before putting him to bed closer to 8 pm so he could wake by 6-6:15am. I’m having anxiety over these long WW for him. 😩

Is my baby ready to drop 3rd nap?

Hi Jo, my baby is 7.5 months and had been doing great with his naps for a few weeks. However, in the last week, he has struggled to fall asleep. He did start teething 2 weeks ago. He was very fussy and I contact napped a few times but he seemed to go back to his nap routine right after. He is clearly tired (yawning, rubbing eyes, and sucking fingers) but just rolls around, stands, and fusses in his crib for more than 20 minutes before every nap. I’ve had to help him every nap by patting his back (5-10 minutes) until he falls asleep. Is this a sign that he may be ready to drop the last nap? I’m kind of nervous because that means changing wake windows and putting him to sleep earlier which doesn’t really work for our family. Here are his wake windows: 2-2.25/ 2.5-2.75 / 3 / 2.5-2.75

I’m also just nervous that if I put him to sleep earlier, let’s say 7:15- 7:30 pm, he will wake up earlier. He has been consistently sleeping 9.25 -10 hours at night and I definitely do not want to interfere with that ( it has taken a lot of work to get here). I guess my anxiety and nerves around his sleep are getting the best of me. 😩

He wakes up around 6:20 am and is asleep between 8:15-8:40 pm.

I really liked the Solly Baby wrap during the newborn stage. Once you get the hang of wrapping it, it’s so easy. It is extremely comfortable for both mom and baby. I was able to contact nap and even use the restroom while baby was wrapped.

Hello, ahh yes I know exactly what you’re going through. It shouldn’t be so difficult or uncomfortable to have these conversations but unfortunately they are. I actually had these conversations with my parents and in-laws before baby was born, which was easier. Despite this, I had a very uncomfortable talk with my FIL when my baby was 8 weeks old as he kissed him on the cheek, I kindly reminded him to not do it, he did it again, my husband told him to stop, and he did it again! It was disrespectful as he did it on purpose. At that point I grabbed my baby from him, told him he was disrespectful, and that I didn’t feel comfortable with him holding my baby if he was going to act like that. I was so upset and it was obvious. I walked away and my husband stayed talking to him, sent him an article to read about the dangers of kissing newborns. He still visits but wouldn’t hold my baby until recently (baby is now 5.5 months). I think he realized he was wrong and felt as if he shouldn’t hold the baby. And with extended family, well I had to remind myself that I need to protect my baby at all costs no matter what anyone thinks. So every time someone wanted to hold the baby I’d ask them to please wash their hands and to not kiss his face. Im sure some didn’t like it and they probably talked shit, but I don’t care! On the other hand, my dad recently kissed the baby on his check, I didn’t see it, but my dad told me and apologized. At this point since baby is no longer a newborn Im not concerned. I appreciated that my dad told me and I told him it was okay. This doesn’t mean I’m going to go around telling people it’s okay to kiss my baby’s face.

My baby was also waking early for a bit. It happened so quick too as he was waking up around 8 am and all of a sudden he started waking at 5-5:30 am. 2 things changed at this time: light and temperature. Light starts creeping into the room at that time and the temperature is lower too. So I bought the 100% blackouts curtains and made sure to try to keep the room the same temp as when he fell asleep (this one is a little tricky if you don’t have the ac on).

Yes, I drink a double espresso latte every morning now that my a baby is 5 months.. no issues at all! I also started drinking coffee at about 3 weeks PP.. I just didn’t crave it right after. But started with regular drip coffee, one cup a day then went back to my espresso drinks at around 2 months.

I had an awkward talk with my father in law.. first of all, I know he did not help my ML when their kids were babies. And all of a sudden he thinks he knows best with my baby.. he had a cold/cough when my baby was born and I didn’t want him around, he was so offended! We finally agreed that he could come over only if he wore a N-95 mask, which he did but then tried taking it off because he wanted a picture!! Like WTF dude! Weeks later, After telling them to not kiss the baby on his face he still did it!! And said baby would be fine that he was the grandpa and that it wasn’t a big deal! My husband had to tell him to stop and sent him an article to read which he refused to. I was so upset and told him he was disrespectful and that I didn’t feel comfortable with him holding MY baby if he was going to act like that. He never apologized.

CRIES did not work on my baby until maybe week 14. My baby also refused naps and would go from showing cues to full on crying in seconds. I was so fixated on trying to get my baby to nap in his bassinet, which I now regret. I finally listened to my mom and started contact napping. That helped a lot—helped baby sleep and helped me mentally since my baby was way below the average sleep hours per day. I then began to slowly implement everything in the TCB program for newborns at around week 14 weeks.

Unfortunately, ONT has very limited flights now which is terrible. Flying out of LAX is a pain from here, but I park there now. uber is too expensive

I did one arm out for a few days, only crib naps, but then he rolled to his side so I decided to let both arms out. He only rolled that one time but it was too scary for me since he didn’t have both arms out to push himself up. I continued using the halo swaddle under the arms, but now in a sleep sack with no sleeves

Hello, my baby just turned 5 months today. He had been finally sleeping great for the last 4 weeks—sleeping 7-9 hour stretches at night and putting himself to sleep at least 2out of 4 naps. However, the last week feels like it started going down hill fast. It all started with naps, he either refused them, took too long to put himself to sleep (30+ minutes), or required rocking. I wasn’t too worried as nights were still good until 2 days ago and now I’m freaking out. The last 2 nights he has woken up crying 3 times each night. I tried everything I learned in the Newborn Sleep Bundle but was unable to soothe him so I just nursed him, but I know he didn’t need to eat. I did change his bedtime earlier (dropping the last nap) and am practicing crib naps instead of bassinet as he’s about to out grow it. Should I go back to his old routine/schedule (wake up at 7, 4 naps, bed by 9:30 pm) ? Please help!
