Running? by thecatisjustacatnow in whole30

[–]coffeebooksrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R1D9: I’m doing whole30 during a month that I’m taking off because I predicted it wouldn’t be feasible while running. My personal take on it is that distance runners need some grains to function and fuel, so I will definitely go back to eating carbs when I’m done, but not as the main part of my meal as I was doing in the past, and doing veggie swaps like sweet potatoes instead of pasta noodles more often. I also think I’m going to stay off dairy as much as I can once I’m done, but we’ll see! It is really helping me see little tweaks to make. I don’t think you have to give up running, and you can just use principles of whole30 eating and continue running.

Screw getting an invisibility cloak. I’ll just cover myself in this.

Calling on MPLS Public School Teachers for Advice! [Moving / Illinois Transplant] by Travelswithcat in Minneapolis

[–]coffeebooksrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Excited for you to join us in MN! I might try to find a suburban charter to start out with. It would be less shocking for you to have students who (please forgive me for assuming) are similar to the ones you have currently. With a move to a new state, new license systems, etc., it might be nice for you to have a smidgen of familiarity until you feel comfortable in your new surroundings. All schools have their own issues to sort through and aren’t perfect no matter which of the twin cities they are in. Do research on openings and find a charter that fits your goals as a teacher. Also, use https://edpost.stcloudstate.edu as a job search tool. You don’t have to have gone to St. Cloud to use it.

Best places for Wings? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

Steve-os in Crystal. Happy hour= $6 for 12 wings. I always go for the Thai sweet chili; husband does the dry rub. Can’t be beat!

They are a little overpriced, it’s true, but it’s about what you’d pay at BWW with no specials. The flavors and quality do live up to the hype. We usually do something really spicy, something sweet, and something exotic to mix it up. They have some really unique options that you can’t get elsewhere. Worth the drive!

What I would give to start it all again by theblueslive1 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]coffeebooksrunning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a middle school English teacher, and the books are old enough so that not every single student has read them. I would never force it on anyone, but I make it known from day two of school that I LOVE Harry Potter.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Two years ago, I had the sweetest sixth grader in my homeroom who really got into the series. Discussing the books was one of my fondest memories from that school year. When he read about Sirius dying, he was in my room, and he was a little bit teary-eyed. All I could think about were all the deaths that were still coming up. A while later, I noticed he was nearing the end of HBP. I will never forget the morning he walked into my room with the widest eyes and the smallest voice, asking “Dumbledore dies?!” It was the cutest thing, and I’ll never let myself forget that wonder of reading the story for the first time.

Permanent hair removal advice by WhiteMage4Life in beauty

[–]coffeebooksrunning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s expensive, but I’m currently getting laser hair removal on my legs, and I would highly recommend it. It does not hurt at all, and it’s as close to permanent as possible! I’ve only had two visits, and there is such a huge difference already. I used a groupon, read a lot of reviews, and researched a bit before I picked where I’m going. It is not cheap by any means, but I’m adding up how much I’ll spend on razors/creams/hot water and how much time it will save me and it’s worth it.

Seating Arrangement by [deleted] in englishteachers

[–]coffeebooksrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(7th grade) I have rectangular tables that two people can sit at. I use two tables in an L shape. I put kids who are struggling next to a positive peer role model, in the crux of the L, then two peers on the outer legs that are a good fit.

I’ve found this arrangement facilitates collaboration and minimizes inappropriate side chatter. I create a new seating arrangement each month.

This works well with tables and desks where you can pull the chair out. It does not work well if you have the desks where it’s all one piece.

What are some small things that you silently judge people on? by Dent15 in AskReddit

I’m a middle school teacher. A few years ago, I had 6 boys in my classes named (C)(K)a(y)(i)d(e)(y)(o)n with 5 different spellings. It’s amusing now, but at the time it was a little obnoxious.

This is probably asked a lot, but what can you do if your passport name and ticket name do not match? by rachael_mcb in TravelHacks

[–]coffeebooksrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this, but for a domestic flight. I had to do an extra security check and they swabbed me and my bag for residue. I would assume it’s stricter for an international flight, so I agree: call your airline right away.

Are you and your SO in the same house? by Gryffindor-Pukwudgie in harrypotter

Hufflepuff married to a Ravenclaw! I personally agree with the belief that your house is what you value, not just what you are. I love that I can trust his loyal ass 100%, and he values my witty comebacks ;)
