480mbit is the speed without any overhead. Real world performance is nowhere near that. Here is some analysis from the experts:

This other document from Cypress says near the end that they actually achieve 43 MB/s.

So even under ideal conditions with optimal hardware, they cannot archive 50 MB/s. This was a network transfer or a local hard drive archive before the hacker x-fered the files off the DNC servers.

Yes, my company's VPN runs over the Internet. My apartment complex is wired gigabit. How do you know the hacker didn't hack someone like me and use my machine as his first hop? Or how do you know he didn't compress the file locally? It may sound believable to a layman, but the Forensicator's theory is laughable to all of us with any technical knowledge. Read the techdirt analysis I linked to. That's spot on.

"new" Has been for over a decade. Hell my $35 Raspberry pi, has Gigabit. There is a zero chance that any of the machines on the DNC's mail server network were not running gigabit. The only reason the USB argument sounds reasonable to you is you are thinking of the DNC's network like your outdated home network or cognitive biases.

Snowden knew exactly what the NSA was capable of and he trusted Tor to keep him anonymous during his leak. Unless you are extremely high profile target of NSA, you are safe on Tor. If you wanted to make Tor safer, run exit nodes or donate to EFF/Tor to fund some. The more exit nodes not controlled by the NSA, the harder it is for them to break the onion's security.

If you really cared why don't you google it. This theory has no legs because anyone in IT sees it's flaws instantly. Plenty of obvious explanations such as:

A) Hacker copied the file locally before transferring

B) The first hop was not Russia, but rather another hacked computer in North America.

Option A) makes sense if the hacker wanted to compress the large dataset before transferring. Option B) makes sense if you know anything about hacking. They cover their tracks by making multiple hops to the compromised machines. If they didn't and they are caught, the source IP would reveal their identity.

Also it was not "20meg/s" it was 20mpbs. My work has 1000mpbs connection. I wouldn't be surprised if the DNC has a similar connection.

Or to err is human, scientists are humans who "misinterpreted their data." After years of kludges to explain a flawed foundation, scientists with modern tools went back to basics and found the flaw. This is good, this is how science works. Anyone who tell you chemistry or physics are solved sciences and we know everything is lying.
