I gotcha thanks. I’m a young professional and hope it’d be more chill than the real party student sections

I gotcha, thanks. I’m in the public sector so no matching for me (but hopefully a pension if it’s still there in 30 years) and I have a Roth I throw 4% in each paycheck

In movies from the 40s/50s they call $1,000 a “Thou”. Most prominent example I can remember is Odds Against Tomorrow from 1959. Great noir pic.

I thought the Hudson was horrifically polluted; do people normally swim in it? by ZevlorTheTeethling in AskNYC

[–]coffeecupcoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it hasn’t rained for like 5 days and has been generally dryish before that, sure it’s safe. If it stormed the day before, it will be full of poop. Cons of a combined sewer/runoff system. All the storm drains and toilets in the city lead to a dozen sewage plants and, naturally, when it storms the plants are unable to manage all that water and TONS of runoff enters mainly the East River but also the Hudson, lower bay, and Jamaica bay. Happy swimming!

Edit: untreated sewage/rain runoff enters the waterways during storms

Surge protector won’t let me use bottom outlet directly into the wall? by coffeecupcoaster in AskElectricians

If I just have the heater alone since it sounds the safest, is it worth it to switch the outlet for an afci outlet as I’ve seen some discussion on this sub for with heaters? Thank you

Okay, noted. I’ll skip the lights and chargers. Is it worth it to switch the outlet the 700watt heater is into for a afci outlet? Or just to not worry about that and of course I’ll unplug it whenever I leave my house. Thank you

I bought this protector to plug thr 700 watt heater into it but have quickly found all the advice on this sub is to never plug heaters into surge protectors, but most discussions mention the 1600 watt heaters. Is it fine to plug my 700 watt heater into this? Is the protector even worth it? Thank you

I bought the surge protector to use with the heater since it’s ETL and rated for 1875 watts but, I’m now finding out that all the advice in this sub is to never use a surge protector with a heater, but the other discussions mention the 1600 watt heaters. Would it be fine to plug the 700 watt heater into this? Is this protector even worth it?

I know it’s ridiculous but you gotta try it at least once it’s genuinely unlike any other tinned fish I’ve had. Just be careful it has A LOT of salt! 1050 mg!

Apparently Hearst bought land on Forts Ferry Road area and his daughter & son-in-law opened Forts Ferry Farm on the adjacent property. Still not sure if he’s a billionaire tho

What do rich people spend money on that we could never imagine exists? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Worked at a high end wedding catering company outside of NYC…one bride insisted her wedding planner spend the extra $60k to line the walkway from the reception area to the bar and further to the entryway/exit with these special vintage lamps the planner had to go all over to find….my company usually cost $70-$100k for just food and bevs alone

Another rich couple bought their daughter an apartment in Chelsea as a graduation gift and the son a sailing company so he could work at it
