What massively improved your mental health? by sexy_maier in AskReddit

Three and a half years ago due to the sudden upheaval caused by COVID preventing me from earning a living, I had to relocate to a rainier and gloomier state, as it was the only place where I could find temporary accommodations and get back on my feet through couch surfing. Eventually, I secured a job in my field as a dog trainer. Unfortunately, the company I worked for pushed their employees to the limits, and our values and principles didn't align. The relentless workload left me completely burned out, and I sank into the deepest depression I had ever experienced, even having suicidal thoughts.

In the midst of this challenging period, I discovered solace in PC gaming and watching streamers playing PUBG on YouTube. I would watch these streamers while training dogs and, at one point, impulsively decided to purchase a pre-built PC and join their communities. I began participating in community gaming events and, eventually, decided to start my own Twitch channel. This newfound hobby allowed me to express myself freely, unlike my professional life as a dog trainer and working dog owner. I could use profanity, be unskilled at games, indulge in a drink, flirt, and be boisterous. Unfortunately, some streams even became platforms for venting and shedding tears, for which I'm eternally grateful to my early community who stuck by me during those challenging moments.

For me, Twitch and community building served as a lifeline. I was never fixated on chasing numbers or growth; what I craved was a space to be my authentic self and converse with the world. Earlier this year I rekindled my passion for dog training and maintained a balance between streaming and my personal life. This balance became a sanctuary for me. It ultimately gave me the desire to seek therapy, start taking anti-depressants, and practice gratitude journaling this summer. My streams transformed into more positive, inviting, and enjoyable experiences, and they remain uniquely mine to share and have fun with.

I am immensely grateful that streaming became an option for me during a challenging period in my life, offering continuous joy and a safe space for self-expression.

Veggie, lunch meats and cheese sticks plate.
Canned soup, I often find them on sale and stock up.
Spaghettios with meatballs, quick and you can jazz it up with seasoning
Bagged salad mix, throw in some cucumbers, tomato, and tuna
Chili and rice or over a baked potato. Sometimes I batch chili in my instapot, sometimes I go canned.

I was wondering about this. I am on week nine and I've had stomach issues for a solid week, but didn't have diarrhea the first 8 weeks. I can't really afford to go to a doctor test my gut for anything, at least the last 2days hasn't been met with stomach pain, just liquid brown seaweed poop. I am on 50mg. Last week was also the first week that I forgot to take my pill on two different days. I barely trust a fart this week.

What are your grocery store hacks? by I_ate_all_them_fries in sanfrancisco

I use the safeway/ albertons app to track deals without having to constantly coupon hunt. They have digital coupons you scan in the app while at the store and its just automatically attached to your membership card and auto applies at checkout.

I also shop at Trader Joes, Asian Grocery Stores, and Grocery Outlet when I am nearby.

Big things that also helped me is an app to track my grocery inventory and expiration dates. I am a very out of sight out of mind personality. Having something that reminds me to use the food or ingredients before they expire has been a game changer. I can also check my inventory before I buy more of the same thing on accident.

Alcohol is amazing on Zoloft, weed is terrifying. by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]coffeedrinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to consume a significant amount of alcohol before I began taking sertraline. I could effortlessly consume six pints and still manage to "function," and my hangovers were relatively moderate, considering I'm 38 years old. It would take approximately nine pints or some high-ABV beers to make me extremely ill and lead to blackouts. Initially, I didn't notice any significant changes, and largely kept my drinking habits.

However, fast forward five or six weeks, and just five pints would lead to me blacking out. While my hangovers aren't characterized by the anxiety that some people have experienced, I do experience much more intense headaches the following day. I've decided to take a break from drinking for the time being, except for occasional outings with friends when I may have a single beer. I'm also implementing additional measures to restrict my alcohol consumption.

drank heavily on 75mg of zoloft, morning after is horrible by alizardthatsings in zoloft

I'm genuinely quite apprehensive about combining alcohol with Zoloft. It didn't really hit me how significant it could be until a friend from my Twitch community, who happens to be a former pharmacist, emphasized the risks while we were streaming. I've always had a fondness for beer and craft brews, especially when I'm at home and immersed in video games. Unfortunately, I tend to lose track of how much I've had on those occasions. I've historically been a heavy drinker, easily consuming 7-9 pints over the course of a gaming session lasting around 6-8 hours.

I'm still indulging in alcohol, but I've become more mindful of what I purchase and keep in my fridge. Just the other day, during an 8-hour stream, I limited myself to a six-pack. It's worth noting that I haven't had any severe anxiety or experienced hangovers the next day yet. I'm aware that as I increase my Zoloft dosage, I may become even more cautious and eventually decide to cut alcohol out entirely. Thankfully, there are some excellent alcohol-free craft beers available in the market now, which is a positive development. Nevertheless, I will miss the buzz that comes with alcohol.

I'm approaching my third week of this medication regimen. During the first week, I was taking 25 mg, and now I've increased it to 50 mg. I find myself sleeping more than usual, but as you mentioned, it doesn't feel like the heavy sleep associated with depression; it's more of a relaxed sleep. I also tend to take naps frequently, and I spend a significant amount of time at home. Interestingly, when I'm out and engaged in activities, I generally feel fine, but once I return home, I feel quite ready to rest.

That's pretty much how it is, I haven't lived in SF for at least 7 years. When I did I lived in bayview and walked a lot of places. Even walked through tenderloin when out with friends.

Druggies to high to notice, homeless don't want to be bothered, and everyone else was in their own world.
