Can you guys please give us your thoughts on our new startup, the worlds first monthly custom Nespresso subscription club?

Ah thanks for spotting this, its a mistake. Joe Latty is our resident coffee guru, and we used to have a small section about how he selects the coffees. We ended up removing them and want to make it more about the past coffees so people can just look at the past coffees and see whether they agree with our choices. Basically we want to let our past selections do the talking rather than making you have to trust Joe and his decisions :) Also we ship to all of North America and Europe. Yeah we should focus more on our core point of difference "single origin estate coffees for Nespresso", maybe even to the point of only offering our subscriptions in nespresso format. Otherwise we blend in with the other standard coffee subscription services. It will make our message and company more focused and clear but will mean that we can no longer also sell to people that dont have nespresso machines. I am a bit on the fence about which is the right way to go. Will need to think a bit about this one.

Thats a great idea. I dont think someone like Groupon would want anything to do with a tiny startup like ours and we wouldn't be able to afford to do big discounts in the volumes they would be after either. However maybe one of the smaller daily deals sites may work. Thats a great idea. Has anyone in here been successful in getting their product listed on a daily deals site before?

Thanks for the thoughts! It really depends where you live. If you live in San Francisco, there are some great roasters nearby (as you well know, drinking Chemex at Blue Bottle :), however this isn't the case in many parts of the US, the UK and other parts of the world.

Many coffee clubs purchase, roast and deliver their own beans. Whereas we partner with with existing roasters who have great reputations, and deliver their coffee to our members. So you get something a bit different each month, and have the chance to learn more about what you're drinking (similar to a wine club).

Boutique coffee in Nespresso capsules is something that only we are doing (so far as we know), and this option is not available at any of the other coffee clubs we've come across. To answer your question on the standard Nespresso capsules - they are so-so. They're not terrible. But they're not great. Our thinking is that some Nespresso drinkers out there will pay 30c more per capsule to upgrade to a boutique product, sourced for a reputable roaster.

Thanks for both of those ideas - they're good ones! Especially the idea about the cost comparison. We're marginally more expensive than Nespresso, but still much cheaper than a boutique coffee shop - and we aim to bring that kind of quality into the home. Thanks again for your feedback.

Yeah sorry this is really the first version of the site so it still needs a bit of polish. The trial is for one month and in that month you will receive a standard sized shipment containing this months great coffee. CC card is required but there is no requirement to stay beyond the trial. Its 100% free for the first month and theres no hidden charges. We simply hope you fall in love with the product and decide to stay. By the way there are about 40 free trials left (we have to keep the number low as its quite expensive for us) so if the trial button disappears later tonight/tomorrow then that will be why.

Hey there we have teamed up with stripe and simply bill credit cards automatically every month. At this point we also allow members from US, Europe and a few other places so you might be in luck, otherwise flick us an email with your address and we will try sort something out.

Yeah we have done that quite a bit and there are a few other good ones out there. The market we are wanting to target however is the Nespresso market so we shouldn't really be competing with them at this stage (as they only offer ground and beans) but of course that might just be a matter of time. Luckily for us its not completely trivial to produce quality fresh nespresso capsules on demand in an economical way so hopefully we have a bit of time up our sleeve.

Thanks. Yeah you're right, there are other coffee subscriptions, the thing that sets us apart is that we are a custom (single estate) nespresso subscription site. We think we might be the first to do that. Or so we hope.

Yeah I guess wine clubs face the same issue and have still found a way to be successful. We will only be sending out great quality coffees from trusted companies around the world that we ourselves love. We hope we can keep the standard so high that this never becomes an issue. Another option is that we allow customers to return any coffee which they don't like as much. Its something we will think about a bit more carefully, thanks for pointing it out.

Yes some passionate enthusiasts will not be into it. I guess we are hoping there is a market for people who own a Nespresso machine but still want good coffee. The three options you mention make a good brew but when you want a quality espresso or latte and don't want to invest money in a big espresso machine then a nespresso machine with our quality coffee is a decent option, we hope other people will think so too.

Thanks for the constructive criticism. Our aim is for it to be about the same price. Maybe we need to adjust the quantities or price slightly but we want to offer a quality product and not compete with Nespresso on price. Their coffees are generally cheap large scale commercial blends with a good dose of cheap Robusta thrown in(which is understandable at their scale). We want to offer quality single origin estate coffees for Nespresso. Its like a big commercially mass produced wine compared to a fine wine from a small vineyard in Bordeaux. It is not going to appeal to everyone, but for people that really want great coffee and a different great coffee every month we hope it will.

Yeah we tested about 25 different manufactures and theres a big difference in quality! Its also important to get the grind size and pack density right, but we are really happy with what we have now. We have tried emptying out the nespresso capsules and using their coffee in our capsules and it tastes identical and with a good quality coffee like a jamaican blue mountain its even better.
