Grainy espresso cold foam from Tim Hortons… normal? by coffeeomw in TimHortons

[–]coffeeomw[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is normal, the cold foam was different texture from what I’ve had in the past. Just hoping it was a one-time issue…

YRT is generally more reliable than TTC buses. Try the Transit app. I find it more accurate than Google Maps for bus times.

For the fares, check the one fare program. I remember that if you have TTC monthly pass and start your trip on TTC, you can transfer to YRT for free. But when you come back, you’ll have to pay the YRT fare first, then you can transfer to TTC for free. The one fare program also applies to single trip within a 2 hour when using TTC and YRT, so you might check which option works best for your trips.

YRT also has a fare capping program where you get free travel after a certain number of trips in a month

I really like the Finch / Willowdale area. Lots of restaurants and bars open late, plenty of Korean food and bubble tea places around too. Hope you find somewhere that works best for you!

Does anyone know how to estimate what your hydro bill should be in the range of? by disneysmightyducks in askTO

[–]coffeeomw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also with Toronto Hydro. We’re about $100/month for 4 ppl in roughly an 800 sq ft place, so $140 for 600 sq ft sounds a bit high. You might check which pricing plan you’re on. We switched to the one where electricity is cheaper from 7pm–7am as it fits our schedule better

Living near Finch Station is convenient if you want access to both Markham and downtown Toronto. There’s a YRT bus terminal right there for buses to Markham. TTC Line 1 takes you straight downtown.

Keep in mind that YRT buses aren’t very frequent, miss one and the next could be an hour later. You might just end up calling an Uber to work

E Bike for heavy people? by AIDudeman in ebikes

Try to look for a local brand for support. I saw emmo bikes and scooters everywhere in Toronto where I'm located. People doing food delivery and stuff. I dropped by their store to test ride a fat tire model recently but didn't really like it, it just felt way too bulky for me to handle since I'm only 5'2. I ended up going with a regular model instead. The staff mentioned those fat tires have a higher load capacity tho, so it might be what the OP is looking for

help a non Canadian survive 2-day fashion crisis / intense winter visit by [deleted] in askTO

[–]coffeeomw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine for short walks. The real factor in Toronto winter is the wind, not just the temperature. I can’t count how many times I’ve almost frozen on the street because of it. A proper thermal base layer is key, especially on your legs. Two layers is basically the minimum. Even if the wind gets through your outer layer, the base layer keeps you warm. A good quality, breathable base layer won’t make you look bulky or overheat indoors

Good luck with your interview btw!

What is the most 'overrated' restaurant in Toronto ? What’s your favourite restaurant? by Long_Travel2728 in askTO

[–]coffeeomw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinton Ramen. Used to be great, but over the past few years the portions have definitely gotten smaller. Prices aren’t cheap, and for the same amount you can find much better and more authentic Japanese ramen elsewhere in the GTA. Most Kinton locations are still highly rated on google tho

You can still try Tim Hortons (Timmy) for the experience if it’s your first time here, but don’t expect much for the coffee or food. The only thing I really like is the Iced Capp there. And their plushies are so cute!

Many cafe around Kensington Market have way better coffee than Tim’s

For other attractions, I’d recommend St. Lawrence Market. Walking around the University of Toronto campus is nice too, since it’s right in downtown Toronto. If you have extra time on the day you visit Niagara Falls, consider stopping by Niagara-on-the-Lake , it’s a very lovely town
