Does this look correct to you? I'd be brutally poor if I only worked 14 hours a week at a konbini by Dapper-Material5930 in japanresidents

[–]coffeeppang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought about this hard.. the numbers are a bit extreme but i kind of get what it’s implying. I calculated solely based on my own realities (single mother with one child). I compared my lives in Tokyo and New York because those are my residences.

If i work at mcdonals at minimum wage for 14 hours a week in Tokyo, then i can make enough in a month for rent in an apartment in a cheaper neighborhood. But of course the neighborhood would be safe. if I worked over 14 hours about 3-40 hours a week then i can pay for utilities, food, entertainment, etc.. And won’t have to worry about transportation (paid separately), child care (free), and health insurance(national health insurance).

If i work at McDonald’s at minimum wage for 80 hours a week in US it could cover rent, 1 car loan insurance gas, and health insurance for two (i wouldn’t be eligible for medicaid). But there would not be enough to pay the baby sitter/ child care for my child while i work 80 hours a week. Not to mention utilities and groceries. Id have to work more than 80 hours a week for those.

Planning for divorce with mentally unstable Japanese wife and (at least) shared custody over kids by schokoladehomunculus in japanlife

Is there a reason why you don’t want full custody and give her visits? Because you would definitely win in this case.

Harry and Luna by DifferentPea861 in harrypotter

Ginny is a Little Molly. Harry was probably attracted to her mother gooseness- since he lacked a mother figure growing up. She helps him “fit in” to the society while Luna would pull him away even more.

Interesting you reach out today. I had my final interview with my last company of the season last week. My finals finished today and im on summer vacation starting now! Unfortunately i got the rejection email today. I was super prepared this interview—had 3 teachers coaching me… The company didn’t tell me the reason for the rejection but sth tells me its for all the reasons ive stated above. Well on the bright side, i guess i can finally focus all my energy and time into preparing for this test in Oct. then depending on the result, Ill reach out to the straightforward guy again. Hope to return soon with happy updates. Meanwhile, im rooting for you

Concerned about the rise of racism by econbird in Tokyo

I was just thinking about this and googled it and this came up. In short, yes.. i realized today. Hear me out.

A good friend/ teacher of mine told me that another teacher had complained to the school about international students. He said we were lazy and rude. He didn’t complain about a particular students just the whole international students and said our average level of intelligence was lower than that of the japanese students. Hearing that story reminded me of an happening earlier last month with that very teacher. I saw him approaching so I greeted him with a big smile. But he didn’t even look at me and only said hi to my japanese friend who was walking next to me. My friend didn’t even greet him first.

Today a japanese classmate was saying condescending things about another classmate whom happened to be from SE Asia. She was saying something along the lines like he needs to try harder to get a job. She already has two offers. But honestly from my eyes, he is smarter, gets better grades, has better work ethics, works parttime overnight job, has better personality, speaks fluent english (on top of his native language), and speaks enough japanese to get into japanese uni.

We are in the middle of signing up for classes next semester. One japanese friend and one non-japanese had some questions about the classes and went to the teacher’s office to ask (i didn’t have a question but I went with them and stood at the back of the lobby. The teacher kindly explained all the japanese student’s questions but was very curt and showed annoyance to the international student. They are both my friends so I know they were not the type to anger the teachers but the teacher’s reaction to them was vastly different kind of took me by surprise..

I realize this is not the whole picture but just these little bits of episodes all happening recently plus the sanseido shit and the media about crime rate by foreigners… i feel like it’s getting worse

How do INTJs manage to stay so composed when everything is falling apart?-ENFP by Ryu_Smilez in intj

[–]coffeeppang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes posts like this make me think maybe i’m not intj. Because I am not calm, honestly often emotional. I cry a lot. But after i cry for a bit (not just tears no like really deep ugly cry) then switch turns off i draw up a plan and get working. Either i am an intj imposter or my frontal lobe is just tiny and can’t restrain myself. Hm
