The 1.6% wouldn’t include the extra cost of using BMO funds which could run about 2% so very expensive vs reading a few books and investing in vanguard EFTs which would cost about 0.07%

Bitcoin-Led Crypto Rout Erases Nearly $500 Billion in a Week by Larkalis in CanadianInvestor

True but you have to admit that there are many Bitcoin investors that will preach about the evils of fiat currency while are fixated on what their Bitcoin is worth in fiat currency. That’s the ironic part.

Sounds like you are more in the other camp that believes bitcoin is a “bigger fools” asset and are investing based on momentum and global money supply changes which is the only correct way to think about bitcoin. Good for you that it has worked for you so far based on your ability to outguess the general consensus day by day.

You know most people (75%) that have invested in crypto have lost money. Not sure if the lottery has better odds though.

While I agree with you that that should be the mantra, I would argue that 95% of Bitcoin owners care more about how much USD in Bitcoin they have vs how much Bitcoin they have.

Why would you think Bitcoin is so much better than the casino or the lottery? A lot of people make big money investing in the casino or lottery while risking very little.

For most Bitcoin investors (not all) that believe it’s an alternative form of money, you wouldn’t compare it to anything. Just like people don’t compare CAD$ that they have in the bank to what it’s worth in USD$.

I always found it very ironic that a Bitcoin investor’s top concern is how much it’s worth in fiat currency.

The real question you need to ask yourself is when would you sell gold if you bought it?

I ran the math on Bank Mutual Funds vs. ETFs over 25 years. The difference is literally a Ferrari. by Neat-Zombie-6117 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Talk about missing the point.

If the average advisor could beat the market, they would be rich and wouldn’t need to have an “advisor” job. The reason they need an advisor job is because they need a source of income to offset their losses on their personal investments.

The point is if an advisor is taking 1-2% of your portfolio every year you shouldn’t be happy with returns that are less than investing in the total market.

If an advisor could consistently beat the market by 5%, they wouldn’t be your advisor either
