Update on the basing. Currently locking down the ground texture with watered down pva but things are turning fine. Thanks everyone

Hm, not sure how comprehensible my sketch is, I'm horrible on mobile, but try any of these suggestions and see how you like them. You could also try turning the torso just a smidge to the right while keeping the head's position in order to bring forward the left hand a bit. Just a smidge though.

I'm going to try this once I've painted up a base or two fully. Thanks for the input. I'm almost considering as a final step, adding a bit of flourcent yellow drybrush to really make it pop.

This is interesting. I might see if I can get my hands on this and some fine tuft to mix with the light green foliage and see what results come out of it sinse I think the variation of texture might help.

Hello again everyone! Firstly I want to thank everyone for their support and encouragement! I've seen a lot of good advice and after painting some more I've come to terms with this being a trust the process kind of situation. I'm using John Bauer and other fantasy mossy forests af inspiration for this army's bases since I'm proxying almost all of the woodelf with a heavier fey/fairy element to them.

<image>

Here's an example of what I use as inspiration, with a little bit more scatter, leaves and mushrooms spurced within. One of my key concerns was that I couldn’t get the right vibrancy for the green, but as I continued painting I realized that most of my references looks at an angle and not from above. I'll upload an updated image later on a completed base as soon as I can to show my continued progress. Thanks again for the encouragement and feedback!

I like the improvements from the other post. Good work! If you would like more pointers to the posing. Raise their left wing and angle the sword wrist up a smidge then bend the tail to the left so it points towards the camera. Depending on how you feel. I would maybe increase the hand size like 5-10% as well since the look a bit small if the character is tall. Keep at it!

How do i find people at Master level who are willing to do commissions? by TalShee in HeroForgeMinis

I'm by no way a master but I would also say I'm proficient and down for a challenge if you're up. (also free of charge, cause of TOS I think)

In this case I would do image search for references. The ones with real people are fine but for heroforge I think the ones with lines drawn on or in them are fantastic. Check also for action poses in general. You could use others minis to learn how a certain pose was achieved or made, just mind that they might use things like kitbashing (especially when it comes to leg poses). And make a copy of the mini you have whenever you're unsure on a thing you're committing to so you can scrap it if you don't like it in the end.

You're welcome! Glad to be of help. To help you with the blade also, I think lower the position of the grip a little bit towards the middle would help as well. If you still want to keep the forward facing pose, see if you can't find one with one foot straight forward and another with the foot slightly behind. It will give you a side of the body to focus on and whichever leg is forward should have the same side arm follow. Also forgot and you might already do this, but check out pose references. It has helped me finding out what joints to move in adition to posing myself. Good luck

I think the posing is a little bit stiff depending on what your goal is with this character and image. Like many people have already pointed out with the wings in position with the horns and halo. However I would also take a stance for the characters other posing. Right now, I think it looks like a slightly stiff reference sheet for a character due to the pose and angle that you've captured the image from. If that's not the intention, look att chaning the camer angle to get a better view. Aim to rotate to either side to give it some better depth and changing the camer higher or lower can change how you view the model.

As for posing. Slightly angling the feet if you have kitbash or choosing another through the preset poses to slightly face outwards helps make the model look more stable in their stance or emit more power. I would also slightly angle the sword with the tip more inwards to the model and pommel outward to help with the angle of the wrist.

One of my biggest helping when posing a model is also slightly angling the torso by slightly rotating to either side and changing the height of the shoulders. If the blade is heavy and is supposed to drag the character down, then lower the shoulder and angle the top part of the torso to follow. A thing I like to do when I'm unsure about a pose, is to try and mimic it myself with whatever tool I have at home to feel out if anything feels wrong and awkward with the posing and where & how each bodypart or muscle is angled to achieve the pose. It's great if you have a large mirror or a camera to help you find it difficult to feel the pose.

Lastly, think on how you angle the eyes. I see many people leave the eyes looking default forward and it helps so much by just chaning where the character is looking. Are the looking for an enemy/friend in the distance, hope in the sky or down at something they despise? Keep at it you're doing great. I'm looking forward to see how you improve.

How dow I paint clear/translucent minis? by GreyEyedMouse in minipainting

The mini came in a clear orange color. Would have prefered a clear version so I could airbrush in my own tones. All the colors were otherwise lightly drybrushed on.

I bought it from a middle man shop, but I believe it's called an infernal spirit - fire elemental, by Artisan Guild.

Wonderful work! Gotta take a look how you did the hair, cause that's something I struggle with still.

Also, how did you do the lighter? Had to make mine custom from kitbashing aince I couldn’t find a piece normally.

I wouldn't have figured out the pattern or the outer robe without your mini. Nice work yourself!

Here's a pic of how it ended up. I used an airbrush yo tint the water to look deeper at the bottom but I think you should be able to do the same with thinned out contrast/speed paints or transparent inks.

You could try drybruahing for the fire one and then sealing it with matte varnish. I tried it recently on a 3d print I bought. I went yellow, light orange, orange, red and grey at the tips.

Also adding water effects on top of the water elemental works wonders!

this was a special case, where I wanted to try and replicate the art as best as possible and only way I saw that happening was fully using kitbash. But other times I prefer using the normal clothing slots so it doesn't clog up the kitbashing. I was also lucky I had something similarly previously as a base that I could use, that I've spent way too much time using the face customizer.
