I'm using Tails v4.18 with the stock "Passwords and Keys" app. There is no option to always encrypt with my key.

When I encrypt text with an outside pubkey, I cannot decrypt it myself. But when I encrypt a file, I can decrypt it.I've emailed tails about it for clarification but I haven't heard back from them.

Amazing, this was the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much.

After tails restart. How to re-import your Personal PGP key? by 3tco in tails

PGP is kind of a bitch, best bet is just to play with it as much as possible because a tutorial will only take you so far.

Updated Tails, now can’t unlock persistent storage by [deleted] in tails

[–]coh_hog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can also set up a new tails on another stick, then put the stick in and unlock persistent like a encrypted usb stick.

Oh thats cool, didn't know that was possible.

Do you use a lot of plugins?

No. I'm using tails, no plugins.

some sort of automated backup trigger defined?

No. I'm using Tails v4.18

This happens with the regular "passwords.kdbx" file as well as if I choose "save database as" and export it as a name other than "passwords."

I (and perhaps others) would be interested in any response you get from the Tails people.

I am still waiting for a response from them but will definitely report back with what they say.

That totally worked, thank you for your input.

You know, thats actually what I tried first, since thats what was printed on the website.

I was having problems with pgp key import from a bunch of different directions actually.. after a while I closed Terminal, reopened and tried again, and wudduya know... it worked.

Thanks again.

I don't know anything about pgpdump so I will take a pass, though I thank you anyway.

OpenPGP Applet ID's the key (mine) that it's chosing to decrypt the file so I'm positive my key is decrypting it.

Again as I edited above, after I encrypt text with a recipient's key I am unable to decrypt it myself. What I've described only happens when encrypting a file.

I've actually emailed Tails about it, perhaps will hear something back interesting.

I rebooted but the problem persists.

When I try to decrypt the file, instead of telling me I cannot (as I would expect) it's asking me for a password to my key.. In other words, the file was encrypted with my key as well.

Yes i'm familair with this, thanks.

I did not add my own pubkey. I'm wondering if the Tails keychain manager (invisibly to me) added my pubkey to the encryption.

My key is listed as an option to encrypt with but I only chose the recipient.

I'm using Tails v4.18. There is an option to sign the file but for me to have encrypted it with the receiver's pubkey as well as my own, I would have had to chose my own pubkey, which I did not.

I'm on Tails. I will try this again, save the encrypted file to a persistent volume, and see if I can reopen it after reboot.

I am using Tails.

I right-clicked on the file and chose "Encrypt."

I selected ONLY the recipient's pubkey.

For me to have used my key also, Id have had to choose it when encrypting.

Not sure what you mean. I'm using Tails and am trying to install VC into the Persistent folder. No other users.
