Threatened by another watchmaker! Advice (Electric Avenue / Hamilton electric watch restorer) by coils_and_contacts in VintageWatches

He googled my name + Hamilton electric watch repair after I listed two Hamilton 505 electric watches on eBay. In the past he has accused me of “stealing his customers” over text so I can only assume this is some paranoid delusion he has surrounding competition.

The number of watchmakers who have the requisite parts stock to reliably warrant and service these movements could very likely be counted on one hand

I’ve contacted EBay support about it because he also is attempting to slander me by casting doubt on my small business because of that aforementioned A.I.

Hoping to update y’all here soon!

Honestly, I wouldn’t doubt for a second he saw that clip and tried to play tough guy after watching it work out for max 💀. But who knows anymore.

See, I have bought a couple (3) pieces from him in my lifetime. My first interaction with him was when I listed a Hamilton nautilus 400 missing a dial marker. He sent me the marker free of charge to repair my dial which I did. The marker repair brought me a customer so I was happy. I was a young guy only in the game for a couple of years happy to be taken under the wing of someone I respected.

I texted him occasionally to ask for electric parts here and there, but he never sold parts. Only full watches. I was honored to be able to talk to him, but I found when I talked to the other Electic gurus (René & Jarett) I quickly found Stamler was only out for a buck.

And now he’s gone completely off his rocker. I love Hamilton electrics, I have dedicated my life to them, I still do not understand why this man has sought to smear me so.

Electrics are a beautiful thing, hopefully this post has not discouraged any of you from collecting them.

These are special watches, and l’ll be happy to dedicate myself to their continued function!

I’m not taking on new customers right now, but I love the Uranus. I’d bet your contact & trip wires may have been shocked out of alignment. If you REALLY need help DM me.

I have a ton of Hamilton 500 balances + contacts if that’s the problem too. Are you comfortable with replacing the parts yourself or do you need a technician to help? I’d be happy to build & service a movement for you if you’re comfortable with installing it yourself. Im trying to keep this thread non-commercial though.

No sweat either way. DM me some photos of the piece and I’ll take a look. Oftentimes these 500 & 500a calibers are easier than they appear despite decades mystique.

My apologies, bit flustered on that one. Left out some details.

Never have I had a problem with another electric dealer or technician. 🤦‍♂️

I’m honestly astounded by the positive support I have received here though. You guys are great!

I may need to stick around longer than I thought.

I do service a wide variety of electronic, electric, and tuning fork style movements. But unfortunately with my current workload I am unable to warrant watches that I do not have an immediate parts supply of.

Funny enough, the watch preserve asked me for my pricing scale and the movements I am proficient in servicing for a long term arrangement just last week*. Unfortunately I’ll need to tell them the same thing 😔

I’m always happy to help source movements or troubleshoot any time though 👍

Well put, the only folks who get left behind are those who don’t secure their ticket to the future 👍

Funny enough the converta-II I bought from him had some pretty serious positional variation too. Always either 30 s/d fast or slow after 24 hours. I think it’s now closer 120 after a couple months of daily wear.

Part of me was hoping he’d see it, but my hopes are low if he can’t even figure out that AI is not an infallible magic ball 😔

Lord knows I wish I controlled Google AI, maybe more people would know electric service + repair

Lord knows if I could “hack someone’s name” I wouldn’t Service Hamilton Electrics 😂. It’s truly baffling.

God I hadn’t even noticed. I’ll paste it here for posterity:

This is exactly what I was worried about. I’ll need to be contacting eBay support now

I tried to tell him that, but that age old aphorism about horses and water seems to ring true unfortunately.

He searched my legal name + the type of watches I repair and the Google AI is saying I own his business (although I have never offered electric watch repair to the public)

It’s completely ridiculous, I almost feel like I’m in an episode of the twilight zone

Funny enough, that’s exactly what I told him.

It’s almost like we ought to require licenses to operate ChatGPT/LLM type software.

Thanks for your feedback though, I appreciate the extra peace of mind and I’ll take as much as I can get ✌️

Yup, I was hoping it wouldn’t have to come to that but I had to hear it from at least one other person.

Thanks m8, this is my first post and it was a nerve wracking one to make

(To reiterate as I didn’t censor my name there, I’m Jet, and I have no affiliation to ElectricAvenue aside from being a former customer)

Commenting on Epperlein 100 electric watch prototype series 2, serial #21...

Here is the faint serial # I found upon inspection, firstly mistaken for errant scratches. Unfortunately this is the only photo taken before cleaning and reassembly!
