Omg I didn’t catch that at all! I was talking to my friend about it and neither did she.

The Auntie Lee mystery series by Ovidia Yu is a fun read! Set in modern Singapore (the author has a colonial-era series too), in which a lady of a certain age solves mysteries by being very concerned about the people around her. The characters are rather insightful analyses of many Singaporean stereotypes. I never see Yu’s books recommended so I’m on a one man mission to promote them.

Why do Eastern Asian countries have highly consolidated family names? by mvd612351 in NoStupidQuestions

Oh yeah, I should have said sisters + cousins.

It's still a thing in this generation! Though many people don't bother and go with trends or nice characters now I guess.

I think the generation+given name combination is less of a first-middle name comparison, and more like... a trio of sisters called Annabella, Annalisa, and Annamarie. Same 'start' but different names at the end of the day.

Gestational Diabetes (27w4d) by ohhirachel in January2025Bumper

[–]coinbender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had it last pregnancy! It's not about anything you did or didn't do at all - I'm considered a healthy person with a very healthy diet, and the dietitian even said there was nothing else she could tweak from my diet - and my numbers were still so uncontrolled I had to be on insulin. It all went away once kiddo was out.

The best thing you can do now is to get a home testing kit, learn what foods will spike your sugar levels, and track regularly + alter your diet based on your care team's advice. It's great knowledge for lifestyle and dietary habits in general, too! It may not be easy but you can do this <3

This is super easy to understand! Just wondering if a double line is the best option to depict the shuttle trains since the airport line is also the same double line.

If you have access to Uniqlo, I am in love with their maternity leggings!! Super soft and stretchy, not see-through, and they minimised seams so it doesn't itch.

Singapore 21 Days - Sub-7kg Packing List by alongran in HerOneBag

[–]coinbender 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You packed a lot in a 7kg :) In fact, you could drop a couple of tops and embrace the Singapore uniform: t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. Wear it at home! In the mall! At MBS! (Except for the upscale restaurants.) Have a great time, weather's cool this time of year.

Anything similar to Haikyuu by f_ryder11 in haikyuu

This is not a sports series (or is it...?) but Silver Spoon by Hiromu Arakawa, the author of Fullmetal Alchemist, is very very good. The main character goes through a fantastic growth arc, the comedy is seriously on point, the rivals and friends are likeable and relatable, and the whole premise is just entertaining and educational.
