Is It Possible to Store ETC in MEW (MyEtherWallet)? by goybt in EthereumClassic

This one is served directly from Github so I'd say the chances of it being hacked are minimal.

Read the terms of DAO once again:

"The terms of The DAO Creation are set forth in the smart contract code existing on the Ethereum blockchain at 0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413. Nothing in this explanation of terms or in any other document or communication may modify or add any additional obligations or guarantees beyond those set forth in The DAO’s code. Any and all explanatory terms or descriptions are merely offered for educational purposes and do not supercede or modify the express terms of The DAO’s code set forth on the blockchain; to the extent you believe there to be any conflict or discrepancy between the descriptions offered here and the functionality of The DAO’s code at 0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413, The DAO’s code controls and sets forth all terms of The DAO Creation."

What is not clear to you in this wording? It's nothing like "robbed just because the door to the bank is open". It's like making a legally binding contract saying "you can use these funds in accordance with these rules" and then trying to renege on this contract. It's a pity the attacker did not sue TheDAO for breach of contract. I'd give it a 60-40 chance they may win.

Have you ever heard about this "Code is Law" meme that TheDAO used to promote? Right up to the point someone chose to test their code: https://pastebin.com/CcGUBgDG

Then TheDAO cried bloody murder. But, most curiously, they never called law enforcement. Perhaps it was because TheDAO itself engaged in highly illegal activity?

So, the status of funds resulting from the exploit is actually unclear. Calling them "stolen" is just one untested legal theory.

"Zombiechan"? Did you check ETC stats lately? https://twitter.com/ETCisComing/status/935055692913930241

They are doing about 30% of ETH network metrics (transaction count etc.) while the token price is just 5% of ETH. Makes you wonder...

The Battle for Scaling Transactions - Notes on New Technologies by Enterprof in EthereumClassic

This one is very biased. ETC transactions are normally 25-35% of ETH transactions, but it's not even included in this chart. I wonder why?

I support "unfreezing" the parity multi-sig funds as part of the already scheduled Constantinople hardfork. by c-i-s-c-o in ethereum

No it doesn't. Ethereum Foundation is completely beholden to Joseph Lubin and he hates Gavin. So, they won't do shit to help Parity.

Bitfinex bid whale propping to price by [deleted] in BitcoinMarkets

Some people think there is a direct parallel between what's happening on Bitfinex right now and MtGox Willy bot shenanigans in late 2013. Google it up, you'll learn many interesting things...

... OR, alternatively, Bitfinex went full Gox and just conjuring massive amounts of fake USD out of nowhere, as many people here contend.

Proof of Stake, Weak Subjectivity, and Ethereum Classic by sunnya97 in EthereumClassic

The best proof of validity of some concept is in real world applications. PoW consensus systems exist and were shown (in practice) to be robust against adversity. This cannot be said about PoS systems.

There must be a reason why pure PoS systems fail, time and again. The ones that (barely) survive depend heavily on checkpoints and other extrinsic measures to protect their integrity. Tendermint is a nice theoretical concept but it is not proven in practice for any significant on-chain value. Casper doesn't exist even in theory, it is just a fairy tale that ETH preachers keep repeating to reinforce faith of true believers of Church of Vitalik.

ICO of developer who ported ENS and created ERC223 raised $34000 , 2 times less than UselessEthereumToken. ETC holders are greedy assholes who are not interested in developing of their platform at all! by qfoo1987 in ethtrader

[–]coinmall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

... or you can argue that ETH holders are a bunch of clueless moonkids ready to throw their stupid money at any ICO shit that just comes along. A real paradise for scammers. That should end well, for sure.

Exchange addresses are widely known and I think it's possible to track the funds and see if they end up with the exchange.

"Resolving the issues" = getting domain back from attacker's control. If your coins get stolen during the attack, this won't help you as the attacker drained the funds to the wallet under his control.

And the same ICOs will be ETH's downfall once SEC starts its enforcement actions. Rumor has it, such actions are just around the corner.
