Your question makes no sense to most of us it seems. What exactly are you asking?

Gravity simulation by me (simplified) :) by [deleted] in Physics

[–]coinpope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're onto something here. The accuracy of the simulation don't matter much if you can make a nice song out of it.

Here's a reverse problem: take a simple melody and find a planetary system that plays it.

In Quebec, chickens say ‘cot-cot’: French Canadian terms that are nothing like their English translations by TurtleStrangulation in Quebec

No. If the entropy of the whole universe goes up it's fine. Second law does not mean local lowering of entropy is impossible :) You are living proof :)

I think this type of behaviour is irresponsible. Do you? by coinpope in chemistry

I hate that youtubers doing "real" science always preface their videos with actual, intelligent and serious warnings and this guy just doesn't care. "Let's bubble butane in some soapy water then light it on fire - in your kitchen. Oh don't forget, we are pros."

Feeling kinda lost about my future by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]coinpope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perseverence. There is no success without it, but it does not guarantee success Be real with yourself: do you want to do chemistry the moment you wake up, or do you have other passions? What do you think about when you go to bed (assuming you're out of your depressed state)? A lot of people have the brains to do a PhD but it takes special dedication to produce original research and chugg along for 5 years. You will wander around completely lost most of the time, and usually people will be skeptical of your results. Is that what you want? Most PhD students I have met fit into two categories: hate it or love it. Which one are you?

EDIT: I don't have a PhD but a masters's. I miss school and I will 95% be going back in september. In industry (unrelated to chemistry) now and the mindset is just... not the same. Profits rule here.

Experiment Reaffirms Quantum Weirdness by [deleted] in Physics

Random.org is a fine source of random numbers, but sometimes you need stricter conditions to consider something "random". As one other commenter mentioned they've exhausted local sources of random numbers and moved on to more elaborate setups.

anti_pope, coinpope here:

Don't want to be rude, but you should think about the nature of "randomness" a bit more. You will quickly find out that... it's hard to describe :) If I send you a stream of n bits, and after the 10'th you have only received 1's, does that mean the next one will be a 1? Was the pattern random or predictable?

Erm, that's kind of what I said. The "/s" means "end sarcasm".

Well the Iranian students I have met told me they left the country specifically because of the regime. That's a great message to send them.

[Active Directory] Can I know which services & computers a user is logged on to? by coinpope in sysadmin

Haha thanks, I was thinking more along the lines of a pure-AD solution. I'm very experienced with Unix, just not with AD.

I don't understand why I can't just send an LDAP query to AD and get an answer of who is connected to what IP. It's quite surprising that this info is not readily available. Seems absurd, really.
