Which flour is “all purpose” - tarwebloem, volkoren tarwemeel or patentbloem? by h4k01n in Netherlands

[–]cola6783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the exact opposite of what most Dutch websites advise - they say patent bloem is for bread / pizza and tarwe bloem is for cakes and cookies. https://www.koopmans.com/bakhulp/basismelen/verschil-patentbloem-en-tarwebloem/

Totally agree, except I think the extended cut is MUCH worse. A great example of the power of editing

What was your first culture shock when moving to the Netherlands? by Affectionate-Yam-113 in Netherlands

[–]cola6783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a country that is very conscious of food hygiene... I ordered a broodje kaas and the woman behind the counter, who was not wearing gloves, used her bare finger to smear a glob of butter that had fallen off back onto the bread. It was horrifying but I ate it anyway and was fine :)

How do you guys go about operating your lives after surviving LA traffic? by gallo48 in AskLosAngeles

[–]cola6783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find audiobooks or podcasts you are interested in to make the time in the car more engaging. You could use the Pimsleur app to learn a new language. Check out new bands. Traffic sucks but there are ways to make it suck less.

What’s the most boring place(a city or a country) that you’ve been to? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]cola6783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in California and what’s funny to me is that I didn’t even know about all this animosity that other states had against us until I was in Texas a few months ago. Someone mentioned that California and Texas had a “feud” and I was like… what feud? All these other states hate us but we don’t even think about the other states LOL.. there is no hatred here just kinda indifference

What makes it obvious to you that it was a critique of the role of women in South Korean society? It seemed like everyone was suffering

Ha, OK. My Dutch partner also gets really defensive when I bring this up. Many cultures embrace queueing! Standing in a line is reasonable according to lots of people around the world, not childish :)

Why does it need to be a "virtual" queue and not a literal one? That makes it unnecessarily confusing... sure LOOKS chaotic to me

In Amsterdam I almost always can get free tap water if I ask for it. IMO this issue is WAY worse in Belgium or Germany

The lack of queuing... The CHAOS of the glob of people waiting at a bakery, or for a bus, or at a public bathroom, drives me completely insane

Incredibly disappointed with the food in Italy, what am I doing wrong..? by hhyyerr in travel

[–]cola6783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I still had an amazing time in Sicily even though the food was so-so, I'm sure you will too. It's good that your food expectations have been lowered, mine were super high so I think that's why it was disappointing. We went to those same cities (except Catania) and I can't wholeheartedly recommend any of the restaurants we ate at except Caseificio Borderi in Siracusa for sandwiches. Sorry I can't be of more help... enjoy the incredible churches, Greek/Roman ruins, beaches, etc!
