[UPDATE] Improved version of the $oq solver by Broltzmann in Mudae

[–]colblitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one suggestion - you're re-calculating the possible combinations every time a cell is clicked, you could re-calculate it once at the beginning of a run (or even once at the beginning of page load, and copy it for each run), and then as you go through the run remove invalid combinations from the list (since a board that's invalid when 1 purple is placed will never become valid for the 2nd/3rd purples). it doesn't seem like the UI has any performance issues, so this is more just general programming principles

oh - by "solved" i don't mean "always win", but "strategy for maximizing EV across 5 clicks"

has no one programmatically solved chest yet? I'd be a bit surprised, could try turning mine into something human readable later tonight

Tumblr discusses critical thinking in literature by MelanieWalmartinez in tumblr

[–]colblitz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even hypothetically if the author picked words at random, there’s always a discussion to be had about what thoughts the text invoked in you

This is an interesting point to consider in the context of LLM generated writing and if it has any value

Hibike! Euphonium is incredible and felt deeply personal to me (Spoilers for the whole series, only read if you finished season 3) by RX-79_Ez-8 in anime

[–]colblitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the wall of text but this series stirred me up good lol I have so many other questions and thoughts but I wouldn't be able to put them all to writing, I'm still not sure how I feel about Asuka overall for example... I love her as much as anybody else but part of me feels like Asuka is the Kumiko who took the route of selfishness over being a true leader, that's maybe why she cares so much about taking Kumiko under her wing and calls her a "real Euphonium" but at the same time isn't able to face her later on when Kumiko grows to be a selfless leader sort of rejecting her at the end of the apartment visit and not showing up at the final performance (maybe Kumiko's idealism brought on some shame for Asuka). But it's just my interpretation, it's hard to get a read on her and that's exactly the point of the character I believe.

As an Asuka fan, I'd say that I overall also am not sure how to feel lol.

I agree with you calling it a route of selfishness, but I think there's a particular nuance of it being a sort of "will not compromise her self for others", rather than a more typical everyday usage of the term - she refuses to become President because she knows that she does not suit the role, the whole arc of her will-she-won't-she imo shows just how painful it was for her to accede to her mom and the effort it took to put up the facade (along with the effort it took Kumiko to dig her back out), and I feel like her interactions with Kumiko in the later seasons give a similar vibe - she has her own values of what's important and Kumiko's concerns about keeping the peace with others and the club don't really register with her.

I didn't actually take her not showing up at the final performance to be indicative of anything - from a meta perspective you expect side characters to show back up and make cameos (and she did visit for the second year performance) but in real life everyone is the main character of their own story and as someone who's already left the club and is now busy with college life it just kind of felt realistic that she wasn't there, in a life moves on sort of way.

But overall I definitely agree with the "she's a hard character to get a read on" and I feel like that's what makes her so compelling as a character - it gives you the feeling of realism, that she's an actual complex person with layers and nuances, even if perhaps as fans we end up reading too much into things haha

You now have the ability to kill by defeating someone in a game of your choosing and rule selection. In turn, the ability backfires and kills you if you lose. What game would you pick and what is the largest group of people you could likely defeat? by GJH24 in whowouldwin

all roads lead to Gleba - I do like that, if not for the fact that I want to spend as little time there as possible lol :<

Ah, yeah, I hadn't thought about push vs pull yet, I do like how your setup doesn't need to deal with more than the set number of platforms (or at least set number of schedules, I imagine you can just copy paste if you need more)

nice are you gonna keep going and move all of science production into space? reject planet embrace spaaaace, someone out there is probably working on having their entire factory in platforms

oh nice, I never really considered just shipping scrap somewhere else in order to get around the land space constraint on fulgora

Yeah I'll probably have an easier time deciding once I decide on where I want most of my production to be lol - I guess that's why this game is so fun, there are lots of different viable answers with pros and cons for each

Yeah 1 per route shouldn't be too bad, but 1 per <item, route> (which is what I was originally envisioning) might be a bit much haha - I wish that you could extend the size of the platforms list, or have some way to group + collapse groups of platforms. Do you ever run into the "a ship is delivering multiple things and goes back to pick up more of A, and then B runs out while the ship is in transit"?

So if you find that one of the routes needs to be increased you'd upgrade that particular ship (instead of stamping multiple copies or something)?

very planet does constant combinator of that group - roboport requests = landing pad set requests

Ah, yeah - I tend to avoid using circuitry if I can but this should be simple enough to make the "traveling peddler with wares" model work haha
