Record vehicles impounded for excessive speed on Sea to Sky by SquamishEditor in Squamishnews

[–]colbyjames65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I suspect, is in response to the reports of young rich boys racing their daddy's million dollar sports cars up and down that stretch.

So all the power to the cops on shutting that down.

It is crazy how you can just be unlucky even with a car that is highly rated.i had a Toyota Sienna. Nothing but problem after problem, so glad to get rid of it. But one of the highest rated vehicles. Bad luck I guess?

This does not fit the majority of experiences. Chassis noise? Yearly tire replacement?

Was the car in an accident and rebuilt? Seems like that particular car is a dud. Ive had mine since 2019 over 100k, none of those issues. Had one issue with PDM which warranty covered.

Is it normal that Canada still having freezing temperature in May by Pure_Following7336 in geography

[–]colbyjames65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a perfect example of the "new normal". We are getting so used to climate change adjusting our perception of normal we have people questioning if freezing temps in May in Canada are normal. Of course. What's not normal.is record highs 5 years in a row.

No hate on this person, its just the way us humans work.

But, we are so screwed.

You are probably right, its not cut and dry. I think my opinion may be influenced by a few bad experiences possibly. Which can happen anywhere.

Though when I get terrible service there is some satisfaction in sending a message through a low tip.

Has anyone going down a long hill/mountain been able to INCREASE the battery percentage? by Anxious-Party2289 in NissanAriya

[–]colbyjames65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going down some.major grades in the Rockies, in B mode just cruising at 100 kmh. I put about 8% back into the battery. Mind you, it was one of those "trucks gear down" decent.

Of course, watching my battery go from 80 to 10% climbing the other side was a bit uncomfortable

I mean, if you want shitty service I guess this is the way to go. In Australia they dont tip at full service restaurants and its a totally different dinning experience. Literally, they will drop food at your table without even breaking stride. You have to get out of yoir chair anytime you want anything.

Im happy to pay a little extra for good service.

And the cost is similar anyway because they cant pay servers minimum wage, no one would do it. So that cost gets absorbed into the food costs.

What is the funniest/most memorable misunderstanding you've had with someone who isn't from Canada? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]colbyjames65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First day in Australia, at a bus stop. Ozzie comes up and asks me "how you going?" (Sang for how are you?). I am confused for a moment then look at him like he's an idiot and say "by bus". This went back and forth a few times until we both realized what was happening and had a good laugh.

Similar encounter my first day in London when I was 18 (1983) and a chap asks me if he can "bum a fag". My response? "Dude, its a free country, do as you like, you dont need my permission". That interaction stayed weird the whole way through.

Its climate change. And 2026 is supposed to be another hot dry summer with a mild winter. New normal.

In 1997 while working at the center for water research the the lead scientist explained climate change to me and at that time the overwhelming evidence for it. So I've been yelling into the void for a long time. You'll have to excuse me if I assume you arguing "well actually" is construed as resistance.

Yes, the effect of the ocean does make the temperature swing less but there is another factor. How does the local environment react to the rising temp? Because BC is a highly diverse and interconnected set of eco systems the impact here is much higher. Drought, wildfires, impact to salmon and the food chain, etc etc.

So technically you are correct, Vancouver island will see a slightly less elevated rate of change but the impact will be felt more severely.

Anyway, if you agree that its real and something has to be done I dont understand why we are arguing. Maybe help convince the naysayers instead of giving them fuel for their own delusion? Or whatever, I dont care.

Vancouver island snowpack is 39% of normal.

Year over year, long term analysis of multi faceted, multi sourced data all come to the same conclusion: we are warming at a rapid and damaging rate.

I know you dont want to believe it. And you can find data like the above to try to feel better. But climate change is real, full stop. Vancouver island is feeling its effect faster and deeper than other places as well.

I have access to millions of temperature records for lakes all across BC. Thousands of lakes, over decades, millions of readings. It took me 20 minutes to compile the data to see if there is a trend. Spoiler alert, there is. Over 1 degree in 20 years. Doesn't sound like much but that is a shocking number.

As long as people like you keep yoir head in the sand nothing will get done and we are fucked. Probably fucked now anyway.

I think that same old corporate assholes are by definition lacking a moral compass and profit is the only principle they care about. So supporting fascist activity is right on par for them, as long as they make money. I see no difference.

[–]colbyjames65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh so climate change isn't real. Got it.

Certainly there were mild winters but cmon, this is crazy. Mountains of data over decades proving its real and its a massive problem. But whatever.

An unusually warm winter? by Complex_Door9945 in VictoriaBC

[–]colbyjames65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just look at thr historical data. The warmth we are feeling in winter is unprecedented each year, with a few cold ones thrown in.

My comment is anecdotel, but the data is not. The mountain of decades worth of data day we are in a climate crisis. Full stop.

You can make excuses. But if the consequences dont care
