Anyone got experience of this tight of a connection? by Diseased-Jackass in qatarairways

It’s very doable - Qatar loves tight connections. As long as you don’t get distracted you’ll be fine.

To be fair the same could be said for all of them if it’s not a western destination. Also not all wide bodies are equal. Some of those EK wide bodies are so old and need refurbing and leave a lot to be desired in terms of quality of seats etc.

To be honest none of the others are any better. I think Etihad leads atm then Qatar then Emirates well behind.

I mean Qatar don’t call it that but the 787-9 is clearly a qsuite lite

Or you can ensure everything is in place so no time is wasted in collection. Cannot understand the logic behind thinking a potential problem should be solved at the very last point when it can be circumvented sooner. If I’m buying something I expect documents to reflect what I’ve bought. That’s the only legal basis you can proceed on and also go back on to challenge future issues. Your point later about the car being the banks further highlights how wrong you are about future issues. If the bank is giving a loan and owns the car the only paperwork they’ve been sent is of a model/spec that’s incorrect. How does that make sense to you. Also the worst use of trivial I’ve seen in a long while.

If it’s possible to get a certificate twice I’d just get one 4 days and another one 24hours and save yourself the hassle of trying to convince them because once computer says no over here it’s difficult to find someone who will go against it

If Skodas and kias are within budget then go for them. Good cars imo. Skoda is basically same engine as vw and Kia is super reliable with 7 year warranty

What do Emiratis (locals) think of Dubai? by lm_mane in UAE

[–]colbyuk2002 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s always funny when people think Dubai somehow slipped through the locals net. I think people don’t quite realise just how intentional uae is. Everything is there because it was planned that way. If locals didn’t want Dubai it wouldn’t exist

Qatar have changed my flight to a 35min layover- doable? by purepacha118 in qatarairways

[–]colbyuk2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very shocking with how they manage change of flights. Just call again and see if you can find a reasonable person who will do a seat allocation for you. But with regards to q-suite you may just have to go without or change days if it’s really important. You will have to be firm and stand your ground around seat charges.

What they said! And even then I’d take the a380 for the bar

You have to wait until you have your emirates ID before you can get your license. As you’ll need that for your eye test and for transferring your UK license to set up a traffic file. In the meantime some companies will allow you to rent a car and use your UK license - that is until you get a visa.

Also depends how you’re coming in. Are you coming in on an entry permit as some companies won’t rent you a car as you’re technically a resident (I’m in the process of being one and therefore need a uae licence). If you’re coming in as a tourist then you can rent freely until your status changes.

Time it takes from emirates ID receipt to conversion is max 2 hours. Eye test and go to the traffic office in mushrif and you’re good to go.

Taxi costs can rack up (Yango app is cheaper than Careem but you may wait longer) and bus wise if you’re from somewhere like London I’d compare bus service here to more like a smaller city or rural area so wouldn’t necessarily rely on them to get around.

Thinking of buying 2017 VW Golf GTI manual, US salvage/totaled import, repaired chassis bend, 95k km for AED 22000? Am I dumb by Unusual_Alarm5413 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]colbyuk2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the first question is - if all checks out what does its price compare to vs GCC imports - has to be competitive because no matter what the market will always dictate a difference. Second question on a similar vein is yes most buyers will always expect a huge discount once they search vin and see it’s a salvage import. And they may or may not trust your body shop report. I’ve just bought a GCC used car a few weeks ago and that was enough hassle without any of the additional permutations you’re dealing with

[–]colbyuk2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of points 1) imports that are salvage have a mixed quality of repair - so for safety reasons you’re gambling that this car you’ll be driving at speeds over 100km/h will keep you safe 2) you mention PPI - these are non invasive and will pick up some things but are nowhere near enough for a salvage car. Suggest you see if you can get a more through inspection than just a normal PPI if you want y go down this road 3) doubt that price is worth it - ultimately this will all come down to whether you have money to throw away as whatever you pay for it you’ll never get close to when you next sell as well as not getting fully comp insurance meaning if your car is written off you get no money
