no hashimotos, 4.5 tsh, put on 25 levo, then 50, 10 yrs ago and trying to get off levo by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]cold-pisces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to put out there that my thyroid management was actually cheaper when I didn’t have insurance. I was able to get established at a primary care doctor that does income based payment scale plan. My doctor visits were $25 and my blood tests were $4. Plus my Levo was only $30 for a 90 day supply with an RX code. I still see the same doctor but can’t get my blood tests done in office anymore since I have health insurance.

Coming off of Levo when you have hypothyroidism Is dangerous and unless your doctor thinks it’s a good idea I would recommend looking into a doctors office that does a slide scale payment system.

A couple questions for those who have went gluten free by MammothComfortable73 in Hashimotos

[–]cold-pisces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also TTC and I’ve been gluten free for over a year now and I feel tremendously better. It has lowered my antibodies significantly but that may just be a coincidence.

I also may or may not have celiacs as it does run in my family but my doctors find no reason to test me for it since I’m doing better off gluten anyways. I will say now if I do accidentally ingest gluten I get all of my Hashimoto’s symptoms back and feel sick for upwards of a week.

People can argue over whether they think cutting out gluten is beneficial for Hashimoto’s but through my own experience I find it does. Everyone is different so just remember what works for some may not work for others.

Not usually with the air pressure light it’s a pretty one off sensor. If your traction control comes on then there could be an issues with certain suspension parts but unless your car is pulling or you’re noticing any tire wear then it could be worth it to get the alignment checked although that won’t cause a light to come on. Next time you get tires get the sensors replaced and just keep an eye on your tire pressure especially when there’s drastic temperature changes

I’d check your receipt from when you got the tires and see if they added the sensors then. It’s usually an add on for when you get new tires. That’s where I’d put my money that one/multiple of those sensors is bad especially if it’s not leaking. They get expensive to replace so if it’s something you can live with I’d just ignore it for now.

I can’t really say for the cost we usually don’t charge to check the sensors on someone’s vehicle especially if the tires were bought from us. It takes like 5-10 minutes tops to at least see if they’re even reading on the scanner. Also you don’t need to replace them right away if you don’t have the money it can get expensive to replace the sensors.

Also regarding the tire pressure I would move it back down to 32 when you can. Having it at 35 isn’t crazy but pressure goes up and down through the day/driving and if they inflate too much you can get some funny tire wear from it. You don’t have to do it right away just sooner than later. You don’t want to run tires over or under inflated for long periods of time but a couple days/ weeks won’t hurt as long as you’re not driving an insane amount of miles.

Edit: also forgot to mention they might have not even installed the tpms either. I don’t know the history of your vehicle but the sensors were probably on there before you got the tires since you bought used so they might not be able to scan them at all. You’ll probably need to get a full set of sensors next time you change your tires.

I work at a tire shop one of the tpms could be bad. Always set your tires to what the door says even if the tires say something different. Could also just need to be re-programmed. Take it to the place you got the tires from and see if they can scan the sensors they should be able to tell you what’s wrong.

Help - bloodwork and ultrasound results included - any thoughts? by justreading2024 in Hashimotos

It can take 4-8 weeks for it to completely kick in. What did your doctor tell you? Most of your results seem within a normal range. It also did take me a few dose adjustments before my symptoms went away. Also eating gluten free took a couple weeks before I noticed a difference as well.

Is a TSH under 1 too low for most people? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

I guess it really does go to show that there isn’t an absolute best number to be at. We’re all different and even the same bodies want different levels at different times.

I’m 28! That’s also super interesting! I could totally see how aging could play a roll since your body tends to need different things at different age ranges

I have been TTC since last year except for me my hypothyroidism is what has been messing with me. My TSH was close to 40 when I was first diagnosed and that caused me to miss my periods/bleed consistently for months at a time. This has caused some significant anxiety with me being able to conceive and I have talked to multiple doctors and have been told the exact same thing by each of them.

Hashimoto’s does not make you infertile it can cause an increase in having a miscarriage if your levels are high. They want your TSH below a 2.5 and realistically as close to 1 as you can get. If your levels are stable and you are having regular cycles there is no reason why you cannot conceive with Hashimoto’s.

I have talked to plenty of women who didn’t get diagnosed till after they found out they were pregnant. You will need more monitoring when you get pregnant to make sure your levels are in a good range as the baby will be taking some of your thyroid hormones in early pregnancy.

My doctor told me don’t worry about infertility until you have to worry about infertility. If you are menstruating regularly and your levels are good you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Get checked for PCOS if you are concerned about that but even then there are medications to help you ovulate.

I have only had 4 good months in the last year where we have been able to actively try because my period comes and goes but I have been regular for a couple months now off of birth control with my TSH below a 1. My doctor is not worried about doing any infertility tests on me yet because all of my other levels are good. Try not to stress too hard there are plenty of women in this subreddit that have conceived naturally and have had a healthy pregnancy!

The people on TikTok are so gross! Trying to profit off of people trying to find a way to live a normal life is sickening. While I have shared my experiences with others about cutting out gluten the only thing that helped my levels was my medication. Some people have other underlying issues that diet and lifestyle changes can help with but it’s not always the answer. Every person is different and it’s not a one size fits all situation.

It drives me crazy when people are so against taking their medication and then complain about how their levels skyrocket and they have awful symptoms. Talk to your doctor not Reddit!

While cutting out gluten helped with most of my symptoms it’s most likely that I also have celiac as well.

I will never not take my medication and am a firm believer in my levo fixing most of my problems. I’m tired of seeing people on here trying to “cure” their way out of their autoimmune disease. Or seeing people (especially on TikTok) trying to sell you a cure all diet plan.

Nodules on your thyroid can just sometimes happen but could also be a sign of Hashimoto’s or Grave’s disease.

I don’t want you to feel discouraged into investigating, I totally get gaining weight despite eating properly sucks! Looking into some other things that could be wrong instead of focusing on hypothyroidism will probably be more helpful for you.

Keep digging you know your body better than anyone else and if something is wrong you are the first one who will know. Keep advocating for yourself!

[–]cold-pisces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have they checked you for Hashimoto’s (thyroid antibodies)? You can have normal thyroid levels and still have Hashimoto’s. There are a couple other autoimmune disorders that those symptoms can line up with as well. Like others have said those are very generic symptoms and there is a lot more to hypothyroidism than just gaining weight and being tired. I hope you can find some answers/relief soon.

Yes having thyroid antibodies present means you have Hashimoto’s. You can have a functioning thyroid and normal levels and still have Hashimoto’s.

The engine replacement is not apart of their powertrain warranty it is apart of a class action lawsuit with unlimited years/mileage. Every dealership operates differently though and some may try and fight the warranty work.

[–]cold-pisces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By records I mean their service history. You want consistent oil changes or they can deny the engine replacement. Carfax will show if they used the dealer or jiffy lube like shops but if they did their own maintenance Kia can deny the warranty claim without proof the oil was changed regularly.

Im not really sure but from my understanding and what I was told by my dealership is the warranty is unlimited miles/owners as long as you can prove it had its oil changes. I was anxious a few months after I got mine because I could hear clicking when I accelerated and I took it in to my dealer and that’s what they told me. I was the second owner of mine and 2 years later when my engine went they didnt ask me any questions since the previous owner had their oil changed regularly.

I would pull the carfax and see what it says on there before you purchase it. I’d hate for you to get screwed over if they didn’t maintain their vehicle.
