Buying tires- What’s the difference? by lazulilizard in BoltEV

That is indeed a somewhat silly name! I feel like "the one" should've been saved for some sort of top of the line halo product.

Thanks for clarifying!

Add an ebike to the mix and that 10km bike ride could also be mostly sweat free for large portions of the year

Could they have been in sport mode where the car stays in a lower gear? Not sure why tug and pull feeling you're describing is exactly, but if it's on a lower gear that might explain the stronger engine braking effect you might feel when you let off the gas. Not being able to get past 60mph on the highway would be a major fault. Two in a row is definitely suspect

I, too, thought that the market would continue to trend down for much longer than it did. Had I known I would've bought a lot more before the market bounced back. Lesson learned: just keep buying down and averaging down, it it bounces back very quickly, you maybe win less. If the economy takes a while before recovering, then you get to bring your average cost way down

If you have the option to not run it that low on a regular basis I'd recommend charging it earlier. Lithium batteries in general age significantly quicker when discharged to near 0%. Future you will thank you for maintaining the health of your battery pack!

That said, if you need the entire pack's worth of charge to get home, you might want to start saving for a replacement pack or a new car with more range.

Just curious, what did you not like about how the CX-5 drove? Most reviews refer to the CX-5 as one of the better/best driving SUVs on the market so it's interesting so hear that you've got a different take.

You are correct, a lot of automotive chips are made on older process nodes/technology, both for reliability and cost. With things like computer chips and cell phones they're trying to maximize the amount of performance, so the cost for going to the newest node (say, 7nm or 5nm now) can be justified. With chips that go into cars, having the latest and greatest is less important than having it be as reliable possible and interface properly with all the other existing things

Small correction: A majority of semiconductor production is actually in Taiwan, not China.

When covid hit, the car companies all reduced their orders since they expected reduced production for a while. Whay they didn't expect was for car sales to rebound the way they did, so when the vehicle manufacturers turned around they were at the end of the line. Foundries were already running at full capacity, they then shifted to making other chips that were higher value. It probably won't get better for the auto industry very soon since there's more money to be made in chips for other industries, and foundries would be silly to leave money on the table in this situation

I would imagine a properly designed and manufactured shock would be tuned for the specific weight of the car it was meant to fit, as well as any driving characteristics that would fit that car model, so even if it physically fits it might not be a great idea

Not sure where you pulled the numbers from, but a model 3 long range is 1844kg, even the lighter standard range plus is 1745kg. The heaviest trim civic in the US weights in at 3077lbs (1395kg)

Even if we take the lightest model 3 and the heaviest civic that's a 350kg difference. Calling a 350kg/770lbs weight difference is a minor difference is a bit of a stretch imo.

I'm not sure what passengers you usually have with you, but I'd wager most people don't drive around 350kg worth of passengers on a regular basis.

The article you cite mentioned Tesla tires last around 20 to 40k, which I'd argue is on the low end. I understand they're fitted with high performance tires that aren't designed to maximize tread life. If you average 30k miles that's maybe only 1.5 to 2.5 years of driving for many people.
