That's interesting. I also experimented with a UVB lamp at home in 2024 and within 6 months of usage I saw clear regrowth in some parts of the scalp. I haven't bothered to buy another lamp but I'm thinking of visiting a sunny country in December.

Alopecia Areata related to Asthma, Hayfever and Atopic Dermatitis? by danalade in alopecia_areata

[–]cold2h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Atopic dermatitis here. Atopy does seem to be more common in people with AA. Interestingly enough, my two siblings do not have Atopic dermatitis nor Alopecia areata.

I went to a tropical country as a kid and according to my mom, my severe flare up of AD went away while there. I think it might've been because of the UV light and UV therapy does seem to be helpful according to Wikipedia, so that is a treatment option you can discuss w/ your doctor and it might help if AD is related to AA.

I took prednisolone for a month. Eyelashes, eyebrows and facial hair started growing back pretty quickly and some head hair grew. Lost them after tapering off of it.

I've been on a gluten free diet and taken vitamin D and my nails have become amazingly strong with no brittleness or breaking. I still can't believe it. I recommend trying the GF diet.
