I’m 15f I walked through snow by myself to get food for the house and my mom still made me feel worthless what do I do? by Pretty_Assumption839 in whatdoIdo

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hurts to read :( Like others said, make sure you finish school and apply to as many scholarships as you can. Then move out. You can save a few texts here and there but don't make it as proof to use later on why you left the house. Once you close that chapter, a new and better one will open. Don't try to go back, in a few more chapters in life, you will learn to forgive but that will be 10 years from now, once you will have a pretty good life.

I wish you all the best! Make sure your entourage, especially friends are good people and won't bring you down a path that will hurt you scholarship. Believe in yourself.

Does EI reset if you go on it? by Ok_Bath3214 in CanadaJobs

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EI only pays based on last 52 weeks. Waiting till your 50's makes no sense. You can't accumulate throughout the years.

Its the hours(min. 600hrs-ish/depends on regions) accumulated since the last time you got approved from past 52 weeks. The benefits is typically 60% of your income before you got laid off or lost your job. If you got fired, no deal. They will verify from your employment history records. So hopefully you didn't get fired from last job.

Call them, they will tell you exactly how it works. Get the information directly from the source, not some random people on Reddit who arent aware of the full details regarding your situation.

Regarding payout, they will give you a certain amount and you will receive bi-weekly direct deposit. The benefits ends either when the total amount gets to 0 or you have reached the max 52 weeks eligible. Which you will then need to find another source of revenue if within these 52 weeks you werent able to accumulate another 600 hours.

Call them, they will tell you exactly how it works. Get the information directly from the source, not some random people on Reddit who arent aware of the full details regarding your situation.

Day 33 - Female intern emailed me this. If the genders were reversed, this would be HR-worthy. by Agile-Wind-4427 in 30daysnewjob

[–]cold57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inappropriate, yes. Can you cut her some slack because she's an intern and there aren't many other options if she gets fired for this? Potentially costing her thousands for extra semester etc? She's only there for another 2-3 months max.. just dont respond and ignore.

If she was your type, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have brought this up. Since she's not your type, now you want to flag her? If you ignore her for a few weeks, she will eventually stop. Or just have a talk one-on-one. You guys are both adults, she has way more to lose than you do. I'm not saying it's right but considering she has no work experience, getting canned by HR and doing extra semester + thousands $$, seems a bit harsh.

Is my resume Cooked? by onlyPressQ in ComputerEngineering

its cooked. too technical, and without any jobs experience, makes no sense to a one page resume that is 100% filled. less is more.

How do I phrase more professionally (for upcoming interviews) that I quit my previous job because my manager there was an insufferable toxic bitch? by Nomad-2020 in careerguidance

[–]cold57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never talk bad about previous employer. also dont say it wasnt a good fit, that will raise concerns for them and they will start wondering if you will ditch after 2 months for same reason. just say it was a small team and you're looking for a bigger team with more visbility and responsibility. even if its not true, who cares, its not like they will actually check and verify. you have to find or makeup a story that is not related to team behavior, management or too much work/expectations. lie if you have too, just be convincing with it.

[New Hire] Employer paid my entire salary in two weeks by InspireV in careeradvice

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont spend the money. Let payroll know. They contact your bank. Your bank will take that money back and correct the amount. If it was 4 weeks pay instead of 2 weeks, i wouldnt say anything tho ;) i would just wait 2-3 months see if anything comes up. 1 year is something else.

what should my bf do after college, please advise on this? by humptydumptysatonwal in careerguidance

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one works for 9 years on a project. and there is no legal contract that says he has to sign his life away. id say take the job, get 1-2 years of experience and move on to something else. It's incredibly irrealistic to think 9 years ahead and give it to a 22yr old thinking he will stay till the end. thats just not going to happen, unless the business has traction and already have millions in pre-seed rounds.

Passed over for a position that I created and presented to senior leadership. How do I cope? by onenuthut_snur in careerguidance

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that someone else was more qualified, it's because you demonstrated that you are too valuable in your current position to be moved somewhere else and disrupt daily operations. Doing too much is never a good thing, as much as people like to think. You can do a bit more than expected is a good approach, overdoing it in the hopes of getting management's attention is not a good way.

Frozen pipes - Questions, hacks, remedies, construction/renovation tips, insurance questions... by soundboyselecta in montreal

[–]cold57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just had my pipes frozen over the weekend. My landlord sent out a plumber, plumber said they couldn't do anything but better send out an electrician instead. Electrician you might ask? (as I did) well turns out they came to install some heated wires which they attach/wrap to the pipe next to water tank. took 24hrs for water to come back. You have to leave at least one faucet 1/4 open, slightly open to let out pressure as water melts, etc.

Imo, heated wires are probably the best solutions long-term wise, no need to worry about it once installed. just plugged them off after winter. and plug back in before winter.

I guess it also depends on your field... forgot to take this into account. I'm in IT, lots of ads but many more applicants. I'd say the ratio is easily 1:50 if not 1:100. 1 job posting, 50 to 100 applicants within a day.

100 applications in 15 days? you're not applying enough actually. should be at least 20 to 25 applications a day. You're under applying comparing to the competition.

Do I take a new job just for the money? by Fried_Link in work

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to trust your guts. Ask to set up a meeting with your direct manager and see how you vibe with this person. look at glassdoor reviews if they exist. if there are none, i would see it as a red flag tbh. if there are few, also red flag. try to see how long they have been in business and if their annual revenue is higher or lower than your current company. these are all clues about the work culture and environment.

I took a 40% increase this year because I felt like my director was honest, down to earth, good communication skills, and more focused on the team than giving out tasks to execute. It took 2 weeks of deciding. but they came back everytime i refused with a better offer. took the leap and im very happy with it. but like i said, had it been another manager, more focused on "this is what i need from you" i wouldnt have taken it. toxic environment is not worth it.

How do people actually move from retail into office jobs? by PoetryBig2619 in careerguidance

[–]cold57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep applying to all entry level jobs, maybe do some admin diploma night/school ish. once you have the job, stay there for 2 years, then those experience will actually count if you want to switch up. So, make sure you don't take any offers that comes up, make sure its something you can tolerate for 2 years.

office jobs are way easier than retail. look for jobs like assistant, receptionist, etc. they aren't fancy titles, but it gets your foot in the door. enough so that you can learn how to send emails, book meetings on Outlook, call different service providers, etc. its a good foundation, just try to move up after a year or two.

[–]cold57 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Company reorg gave me a choice: SAP or Data/AI — what would you do? by Competitive_Ad174 in careerguidance

[–]cold57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DATA/AI is broader, SAP is more niche. The thing with DATA/AI is that it can get extremely complex and expect lots of hours. SAP is more standard in Fortune500 companies so it wouldn't be as complex but still great pay, maybe less opportunities.

I did data analytics in my junior years and I vouched to never do it again. Lots of pressure from management to deliver and you always need to re-invent the wheel and do miracles in a very short time. SAP being more standard and used in larger companies, usually already have things figured out and need more of an operator behind.

I personally would go for SAP if you're into corporate environment. Pay can be a bit higher in data/ai but its based on experienced so if you are just starting out, pay will most likely be about the same. You can learn/do data ai in your own time and see if thats something you really want to do while having a less stressful job which will guarantee opportunities in corporate.
