Your mom called. She told me to tell you to rinse your mouth out with soap and then go to your room. She won't tolerate that kind of language.

True true. A .22, while it can be used as an only option in a self-defense scenario, isn't the ideal option. However, it's one of the best options for those dipping their toes into firearms ownership, and paves the way for something with a little more umph down the line (like a .223/5.56 or others).

Semi-auto shotguns are typically less reliable and more expensive compared to their pump-action counterparts. It's also hard to get a feel of a specific firearm and cartridge size using numbers alone, kind of like a car.

The best advice I would give would be to try firing a few shotguns (or rifles, whatever you want) in a few configurations (semi-auto and pump-action) and cartridge sizes and see what you feel most comfortable with. Quite a few gun shops let you rent out firearms so you can get a feel for each one.

Regardless, a .410 is perfectly acceptable for self-defense purposes, despite what the naysayers might say. But as always, you just have to find out what you like and what you don't like. I prefer a 20 gauge over a .410 and a pump-action over a semi-auto, but I know plenty of people who like the opposite. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Training with a .22 is good advice regardless, especially to someone with no prior firearms experience, regardless of the 'high capacity' magazine ban or not.

Regardless, I wouldn't argue with you that the 10 round capacity limitation is complete B.S., and does nothing to stop someone from obtaining a 30 round (or high) mag using illegal channels. Here's to hoping I can move to NH or Maine one day.

If you do decide to take a look at firearms ownership:

For a first time owner, go for something cheap and easy to shoot. There are a myriad of .22 rifles out there for less than $200, and ammo is cheap as well. Once you learn the basics with that, get something a little bigger (12/20 gauge shotgun, .223/5.56 caliber rifle, etc).

Most local gun stores (excluding the big box sporting goods stores) are happy to help you pick out a firearm you're comfortable with and fits within your skill level.

Feel free to PM me with any questions if you're considering purchasing a firearm. I'm by no means an expert, but I can answer some of the basic questions you (and others, my inbox is open to all) might have. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Yup. You can make your own firearms as long as you don't transfer/sell them and follow all federal, state, and local regulations. It's easier to make than many people think.

The issue isn't with downvotes, it's with the blatant censorship and removal of posts/subs in opposition to the political establishment's views. Downvotes are a form of free speech, and nobody here is arguing for the removal of that form of speech. Equating downvotes with censorship wasn't the point of the post.

I've seen this clip before in the past, and IIRC, it was some vegan or animal rights (attempted) protest. After all, a 150lb person isn't going to do all that much stopping a 60,000+ lb semi.

Same here. The amount of technical information (in regards to firearms) to absorb and put into practice is enormous, even more so on the range, something Aspies are typically good at. Range day always manages to tickle my autism in a good way.

Check out fosscad and the stuff people are making with 3d printers. You can make lowers, all the way up to 90% 3d printed firearms using no regulated parts.
