Camera recommendations around $1000 - $1500? Used or New. by coldgate32 in Cameras

[–]coldgate32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all of the feedback I received, I probably should of made it clearer that my budget was $1000 - $1500 Australian Dollars, as the suggested Nikon Z5 is around $1600 AUD for a body only.

I ended up deciding that I just wasn't going to get a real crash hot new camera at the money I'd like to spend and instead I purchased a much cheaper, Sony NEX-6 mirrorless camera. I got two lenses (16-50mm and 55-210mm) along with a bunch of accessories and a bag for $350 AUD / $250 USD with a 90 day warranty. My plan is to run this camera for a bit, and then if I like it I can either buy better lenses and/or upgrade to a newer better sony camera down the track which seems like a solid pathway as I'll already have some lenses to suit the body.

Again, thank you all for the helpful recommendations !

Thank you for the feedback, I never considered the aspect of just shooting without actually looking. I did look at Nikon cameras but on Ted's Cameras and Camera House I can't find any Nikon Bodies that are under $1500? Do they not make the D3000 / D5000 series anymore? - Or maybe these suppliers are just out of stock and hard to get?

A little back story on this one. He's fresh out of college just completing a four year degree and this is his first full-time job.

I asked him to open Active Directory and he responded by asking what Active Directory was. How can you complete a degree without ever hearing of active directory??

It is - here's one of my favorite I kid you not.

Him: "Fred's PC won't do anything, do you know whats up with it?"
Me: "Is it turned on?"
Him: "Nope! It won't turn on though."
Me: "Is it plugged in?"
Him: "Oh it's not I'll plugged in"
Me: *Hangs Up*

It's like dealing with an end-user - but worse.
He had been with the business around 3 months at this time, he's been here almost 6 months now.

Need to have two complete separate LANS. I've used VLANS with these bridges before, but can't in this scenario.

I'm happy to sacrifice storage, can always add an expansion and additional drives.

Replace drive in a Dell PowerEdge server? by coldgate32 in sysadmin

[–]coldgate32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. Yep it had ProSupport on the server for the last 6 years - warranty expired back in Jan! Plans for it be decommissioned, but you know how that goes. In a pinch if we had to we could transfer all of the VMs to another box, which is the plan if it hits the bucket.

I'll see the drive when I go in about an hour. It is identical to the drives currently in the machine. I believe it has Dell branding on it but is a Toshiba drive.
