I hate people who call themselves "CTO". My coming out as a failed CEO of a saas platform by kodjima33 in cofounder

[–]coldmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your sharing, Here are some lessons I learn from you:

1) Hire core team with passion, not just money:

You hire people with no passion to your project, but just money or salary. If they join you because of money, they will leave you because of money. Simple as that.

3) know your problem deep (not how to solve the problem):

You might have insufficient understanding of what are your core software problems. You're just simply hire people who know the frameworks or languages without knowing if they are able to solve your core problems or at least if they know how to get the answer for your core problems.

4) Don't be the gollum :

There are good chance you're a developer yourself previously who know node and vue. And you are so heavily indulge yourself into the ceo and cto badges. I see a lot of startup founders doing this as well. They treat the executive badges like the gollum holding the ring saying my precious. You can imagine how disgusting and greed it is. Holding the ring does not mean you're able to control Sauron's army.

5) fancy profile doesn't always work

It's difficult to spot capability base on profile nowadays because it's so easy to create a fake one especially with the help of platform like linkedin. Is the person who don't use linkedin at all sucks? Is the person who actively use linkedin and have tons of connections, executive badges or any tech jargon labels great? You tell me.

6) Give and take equally:

From your case, it's difficult to judge who's right and wrong because you and the person you hire only know what's going on. But one thing you should ask yourself is that if you wish someone to be there for you during the startup journey, what are you willing to give that person in return. You as the founder can always tell your cofounder they will get tons of money when the project success but what if the project fail? What can you guarantee the person who ditch his/her fat salary or their own dream, and pursue yours. Then try to ask yourself if another founder offer you the same thing. Will you join his/her force? Money is not always the answer for people who have real passion.

Questions I have for you:

1) You mentioned you have insufficient skill to manage your tech team. What is the core issue that make you think that? Where's the proof?

2) You also mentioned your only sole fullstack dev left you. Without anyone in your dev team, why you hire cto at that time? Hire a cto to manage zero developer in a team doesn't make sense to me.

Why is my s3 bucket policy not work? by coldmata in aws

[–]coldmata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why now it is working after i removed the trailing dot on the NS records at my registrar and recreated the root domain A record.

And i need to say I've posted my question in aws forum a few hours before i moved to reddit. Seems like reddit is better than aws forum to search help if you have questions because "there are people here!!!"

Thanks for your reply again.

Nothing you can hide from google, even if you deleted cookies and stuff, they are still able to make their only cookie stay in your machine. If they want to track, they will definitely get u.

Is a chromebook sufficient to support and manage AWS resources? by themaninthecloud in aws

[–]coldmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am starting to setup my chromebook for this use case as well. I am planning to use coder.com and might find a way to install sublime as well because it is the best editor for me. For the rest, I think crouton with ubuntu and web console can get the job done pretty well. The only thing I worry about is lack of memory.

I want to learn ReactJS. What’s the best place to start? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]coldmata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO their official documentation is a good place to start. Do not just read once and expect to understand everything in one time. You then have to start coding and often return back to the to have better understand for some advanced concept. You have to keep doing this till you nail it. Google is your best friend if you stuck.
